I'm sixty-five and feeling that age at the very least. Some lives are fun and very energetic, some are only traumatizing and tiring. Sheryl Crow and her music makes me recall happy times when I grew up in a Los Angeles suburb called "Eagle Rock" where I was almost daily abused in some form or fashion. He happiness makes me forget all that and then I can smile. I didn't do anything, THEY did. Sheryl and her music help me to step out into the bright, warm light again. That's worth more that the price of a record, I'll tell ya! Records... yes, I'm of that vintage.

29 years as a prison guard. Retired and this song has helped me get through the crap I've been through. Thank you.
I had to edit this for those who know what I'm talking about.
For several years after retiring, I had this feeling that something bad would happen at anytime.
There were no more alarms or some one yelling "get down" on the yard for me to respond to. For years I had to deal with some sort of fight, stabbing or assault. no more than a week would go by that I didn't have that in my job. I had a feeling that at any moment something would happen that I would have to react too.
When i retired, all of those incidents went away. I've dealt with it over the years but it never goes away. That is why this song means so much to me. Every day is a winding road. And i do get better every day.

but ‘he’s got a daughter he calls Easter’
At the top of the lyric she references intellectualism, philosophy. Plato. Halfway down she references Easter, the cross.
the lyric, like a lot of thinking pop lyrics are a faded sign- but,
This is Plato’s cave. The thought of George P Grant and Simone Weil. Intellectuals, philosophers who see Christ’s cross (daughter called Easter) as the fulfilment of Plato’s thought - the cave metaphor.
The sign is a bit faded.. some days when the light is just right... ✌️

Growing up in the 90’s, these type of songs filled us with wonder and made us look forward to the future, seeing how adults acted and what they listened to. Now as adults the world isn’t like that. It’s different. Many of us wanted to be adults in the world we were growing up in. It didn’t happen.

(I was too shy to go outside and play with other kids and preferred to stay at home and watch tv) Now that kids are being raised on brain rotting ipads, I wish I hadn't taken those days for granted. This is the closest I can get to that home video and the memories it holds now. I remember playing Scaletrix and building a toy airport with my Grandad that Christmas - I won’t ever forget the times we shared.

    Lyrics
I hitched a ride with a vending machine repair man
He says he's been down this road more than twice
    He was high on intellectualism
I've never been there but the brochure looks nice
    Jump in, let's go
    Lay back, enjoy the show
Everybody gets high, everybody gets low,
These are the days when anything goes
    [Chorus]
    Everyday is a winding road
I get a little bit closer
    Everyday is a faded sign
I get a little bit closer to feeling fine
He's got a daughter he calls Easter
She was born on a Tuesday night
I'm just wondering why I feel so all alone
Why I'm a stranger in my own life
    Jump in, let's go
    Lay back, enjoy the show
Everybody gets high, everybody gets low
These are the days when anything goes
    [Chorus]
    Everyday is a winding road
I get a little bit closer
    Everyday is a faded sign
I get a little bit closer
    Everyday is a winding road
I get a little bit closer
    Everyday is a faded sign
I get a little bit closer to feeling fine
I've been swimming in a sea of anarchy
I've been living on coffee and nicotine
I've been wondering if all the things I've seen
Were ever real, were ever really happening
    [Chorus]
    Everyday is a winding road
I get a little bit closer
    Everyday is a faded sign
I get a little bit closer
    Everyday is a winding road
I get a little bit closer
    Everyday is a faded sign
I get a little bit closer to feeling fine

This song came out a year after I'd had a nasty and complicated miscarriage and was struggling to face up to the fact that I'd never have kids as a result. This really hit a chord with me as I really did feel "like a stranger in my own life." I moved on from this and adopted a baby girl who will herself be 18 next April, but this song still reminds not to take things for granted. And how lucky I now am.

Laid up in hospital for a month working on healing everyone that was brought into my room (bone cancer, west nile, etc.) and also worked on the entire dilapidated county hospital healing it as well! This song, just decided to learn it while watching "Phenomenon" movie for the hundredth + time. Well, it probably did feel that way in the West due to the end of the Cold War... but then you also had the Yugoslav Wars, the Rwandan Genocide, the Gulf War, wars in Africa, the bombing of the WTC and other terrorism etc. etc.
Maybe it was mostly relative optimism after the threat of nuclear war seemed over in spite of the other conflicts?

90s were the best era to grow up in! I miss those days. The days of better music, nicer people, childhood dreams and no responsibility.

I love this song 🎵 ❤️, and Sheryl Crow, this song is very relatable. Cause, everyday is a winding road. I'm glad that everyday brings something new and exciting. I love this type of music 🎶 🎵
