Listening to this just now bought me to tears. I lost my mum this year and she introduced Pink Floyd to me growing up. She saw them play live before I was born
💔💔 My dude, im so sorry I didnt think about others linking this song to those that have passed. Bet your mum was amazing, well she must if been introducing you to this music! Came full circle round to this moment too so that makes your mum incredible!
Back in the day there was a show called Laser Floyd where you sat in a room, kind of lounging, and looked up at the ceiling while they had lasers moving to Pink Floyd songs. It was awesome! They should bring it back.
This album is played daily at my work. I work with people in their early 20's to late 50's and now all love Floyd! When a 20 y/o trainee asks who is playing and then starts downloading the entire Pink Floyd back catalogue you know you have done your good deed for the day!
has to do with people like Ali who famously went to prison (lead role in a cage) rather than be drafted and slaughtered as foot soldiers in the Viet Nam war (walk-on part in the war)....very heavy social commentary at the time this was written
There's so many things to share about this track but in keeping it to one thing, David's actually singing the notes he's playing during the guitar solos. The them of the album is "absence vs presence" which you'll understand more once you're familiar with the band's history and the story of Syd Barrett. It's compelling and heartbreaking all at the same time. Another great reaction, man! I recommend finishing out Dark Side next by doing Any Colour You Like, Brain Damage, and Eclipse in one go. They're all relatively short and would be about 10 minutes of music, give or take. They flow so seamlessly it's tough to break down into shorter sections. If you do need to break it down though, Any Colour can be separated but Brain Damage and Eclipse are essentially one song and played as such on the radio. Looking forward to the next one!
Awesome reaction!!!! Pink Floyd is deeper than the Mariana trench, higher than any satellites orbiting earth, cooler than an iceberg in a river of liquid nitrogen, hotter than a solar flare of lava spouted from the sun, smoother than a quantum stabilized atom mirror, more Zen than 10,000 Buddhist monasteries, larger than what we know as our universe. Their music is an enigma that is beyond what we are capable of comprehending.
Greatest song ever written. This entire album was a tribute to their former band mate Syd Barrett who fell into a drug induced psychosis shortly after signing their first major record deal. After leaving the band years earlier (replaced by David Gilmour), Syd showed up in the studio when the band returned to start recording this album after the success of Dark Side. No one recognized him at first because he had gained a lot of weight and had shaved all of his hair off. They never saw him again after that day. Shine On You Crazy Diamond is about Syd and the struggles he was having with fame and fortune and this song was written as a longing to have their friend back.
No, as Waters has said, the theme of the album was absence, not Syd: "There’s one song that’s about Syd (“Shine on You Crazy Diamond”), but the rest of it isn’t. It’s a much more universal expression of my feelings about absence. Because I felt that we weren’t really there. We were very absent."
I get a chuckle now when you react to a relatively short Pink Floyd song. You’re so disappointed when you realize it’s coming to an end. You’re in good company, my friend.
Gilmour singing every note of his acoustic guitar solos in this song is one of my favourite musical moments ever, so beautiful and unforgettable. This one does fade into another song on the album but it's a perfect singular song too.
Hiya! I’ve been so fortunate to see Pink Floyd in concert a few times. This song brings back memories of the entire stadium full of people singing along with a beautiful reverence. Awesome reaction. Try One of these Days next.
This is the first time in reactions that someone has made the connection that the person listening to the old style radio has picked up his guitar and plays along with the tune. Everyone has their own interpretation of the songs of course but you really are getting it! You’re so far down this Pink Floyd journey now that I’m afraid you’ll be listening to them forever now. The more you live your life the more relevant their songs become. Welcome to the machine.
I lost my daughter when she was 22 yrs old. However, Pink Floyd was one of her favorite bands and sometimes when she missed me, she would send me this song. She lived in a different state. And I too would send it to her randomly. It actually meant we needed each other. This song always spoke to her and is played by me a few times a week. There is NEVER not a time i don't cry my eyes out. This is truly the deepest song I know and I get when you say listening to Floyd is a experience. Perfection personified. I truly am enjoying this experience with you. The way you allow the music all in and you feel it deeply is shown all over your face and body movements. I said this before but how you groove to the music is how it is meant to happen. You truly bring joy into my life even for a short time. I wish I knew ppl like you. I suffer from depression and watching one of your reactions honestly lifts me up and let's my endorphins out. I laugh and laugh all the while learning new bumping music. So F the haters and NEVER change. Blessings from NYC!

I am 66. Every part of every song plays scenes, memories & images through my mind's eye when I hear them. That is what this band does in so many ways. I sat and stared at a Christmas tree & pulled in to a road side wreath & tree stand with snow on the ground to Us & Them. Presto change-O, it is a Christmas song now. The sax on Shine on you crazy diamond goes with a rainy day like you wouldn't believe. Dogs is a foggy misty field with some guy whistling for his dog. etc.

Great reaction. this song truly hits my soul. I lost my mom back in February. I miss her horribly especially when I need her advice about what to do about something. this song hurts and makes me feel better at the same time. The power of Pink Floyd.❤️✌️🌼
A beautiful song, Mark, the solos are very clever, David Gilmour harmonises vocals with the guitar you need to see it live to appreciate how he makes that eitehral sound, the live version from Pulse is as good as any to watch.
@@ilovegreattits great mind think alike, plus it is an amazing performance. Seeing him do that live in 1994 changed how I listen to the studio version, once you know you really can hear the harmony between voice and guitar.

'Thats the pink floyd sound right there' Pretty sure you are referring to Richard Wrights keys, but yeah I really think thats really Pink Floyd's signature sound. Shows how important Rick Wright was to the band.
I've been waiting for this all day! Your discovery of the greatest band of all time is refreshing to watch. When you get a chance, please watch the live Pulse version of this song. You get to see David G. as you called him, lol do his thing. It is so good! I know you are hearing from a lot of Pink Floyds fans, but I do recommend, Keep Talking ( Pulse version of course), High Hopes ( same concert) Welcome To The Machine, Run Like Hell and One of the Days.
The most beautiful love letter ever written for a lost friend. Anyone who ever lost someone is struck by this. Good one mate. "Welcome to the Machine" next?
I swear! You’re the only one that makes me laugh out loud sitting here by myself. I grew up in the 70s so, I’m a Rocker headed to a rocker. You make me feel young again. Truly love you Hector.
Once you listen to this and understand it this song will never leave you. It’s like that favorite pair of jeans. It is a timeless masterpiece. Thanks Man, it’s awesome to see someone discover something. I had the same reaction 46 years ago 😂. Keep it going my friend, you have a long road ahead and you will love every minute of it. I LOVE YOUR REACTIONS!
When I was 9 years old, my grandmother gave me an acoustic guitar. They sent me to that 65 year old lady in my school who then tried to teach me polkafolk for more than a year. I hated it and stopped going there. The guitar then was exiled to a corner of my room where it collected dust for 2 years. In 1975 - when i was 12 - an alit aunt gave me the album WISH YOU WERE HERE (at release-date!). it was my very first music-album (before that I had only cowboy-and-indians audiobook vinyls - yes, we were later on at that time). Just imagine that little boy in the Austrian Alps being deflowered and coined by Pink Floyd! When i heard the title song, I took my guitar and tried to copy the song. Eversince I play the guitar and kept having my own little amateur band(s), starting 1978. And David Gilmour is my God. Well, as subjective as this is, I still must say that - even objectively speaking - I most probably had the incredible luck of being "deflorated" by the arguably greatest rock guitarist of all time. I love watching your reactions, because I know every single note of every song, of every album, studio or live - thus someone can relive music-experiences. Here´s a tipp for a spectacle you havent´t watched yet (I guess) ... watch Gilmour go rogue off the usual path: "One Of These Days" (Live PULSE Restored & Re-Edited) 🙃
Growing up we would go camping with a lot of my parent's friends. We would listen to PF around the campfire every night. A few years ago one of the guys we camped with died. He loved PF more than anyone else I know (except me lol). He wanted this song played at his funeral so everytime I hear it it reminds me of him. Miss you Patrick.
So much about Floyd's music makes me cry, so hard. They were revolutionary as far as I was concerned ( born 1965) and TO THIS DAY I can listen to 80% of their music ( not a fan of most of live recordings) and it helps me heal ( i happened to have had a troubled childhood). Thank you so much for reacting to their music with such appreciation
Many people mistakenly think this is about Syd Barrett, but in an interview Roger Waters said quite emphatically that the only song on the WYWH album that was about Syd was "Shine on you crazy diamond". He went on to say that when he wrote the lyrics to Wish You Were Here he had in mind someone close who had refused to move on in life and had been left behind. He also said that at other times it meant something else, and that some days he didn't really know what it meant himself. He deliberately made the lyrics enigmatic so that the listener could make them mean whatever they wanted them to mean, and they have become an anthem for anyone who has lost someone close to them. David Gilmour has said that he often thinks of Syd when he's performing it, even though it wasn't written about him. The opening guitar chords were composed by David Gilmour who had in mind someone listening to a poor quality radio all alone in their bedroom late at night, and upon hearing the guitar joining in himself with the crisper sound of the second guitar. Overall, a stunningly beautiful composition, both instrumentally and lyrically, and a work of complete genius. I associate it with someone very close that I lost long ago and it never fails to bring a tear to my eye.
It's so great to see you picking up on all the emotional nuances in every part of their music. Your musical understanding is deep and your excitement is infectious. Keep it up!
You are amazing!!! I love your "who cares about anything or anyone else that is negative " attitude!!! Great work man. I am glad that you are travelling down this rabbit hole. 👍
Oh man. This is a deep one. My dad was the one to introduce me to Pink Floyd. He had this album and The Wall on 8-track. I found myself listening to these a lot before I was even 10. We lost dad a few years ago and this song brings to tears ever since - but not in a bad way. Love you shares brother. Keep spreading the love. Cheers!
Ha! I happen to be wearing my Wish You Were Here shirt right now. Was wearing it out a couple weeks ago, and per usual, someone walked by and nodded and said "Like the shirt."
I remember at the end of your reaction to "Have a Cigar" you said something along the lines of and-now-it's-done when the abrupt fade-out/transition happened. Well, the radio sound at the end of that song tracked into this song. It's like someone tuned out the record-industry nonsense (the theme of "Have a Cigar") and turned to the important matter of human relationships. The song is, of course, pretty specific in the mind of the writer, Roger Waters, but the brilliance of his lyrics are that they don't lock the listener into his ideas alone. Also, that iconic sound you're hearing is part of "Shine On, You Crazy Diamond," which, I think, was first reaction. This song, "Wish You Were Here," transitions into the last parts of "Shine On." So now, except for "Welcome to the Machine" (also about the record industry), you're heard the album--almost (I'm sure someone will point out that you haven't). Peace to you, brother!
You summed it up perfectly at the end mate... Everything going on outside is Fucked.... however many minutes we, you, I can disappear into a song, an album and heal a part of our soul, it's a tonic to rejoice in.
This song means something different to each of us. We all have someone that we wish they were here. For me it’s my old friend Everett. Wish you were here Everett. I really miss you. We all do.
I envy you getting to listen to Pink Floyd for the first time I have been on the Floyd trip for about 35 years now and it never gets old Keep up the good work Hector I'm going to check if you have reacted to any queen albums like Queen II or Day at the Races I guarantee you will never be the same again
You are too young to remember just barely being able to pick up an AM radio station and hearing something amazing. The intro to this song perfectly captures that feeling.
Loving your Floyd reactions! Welcome to the machine is a must, Mother from The Wall, Echoes (Dave Gilmour at the Royal Albert Hall) is amazing, also A Great Day for Freedom much later but what a track! Also On the Turning Away, and In Any Tongue from Gilmours last solo album is stunning
Wish you were here was for so very long my favorite album and SONG, until later I heard the album THE FINAL CUT. Wish you were here, is still in my top 3 favorite Floyd Songs.
Contrary to what many think, this song was NOT written about Syd Barrett. And here are the quotes from the band to indicate this: Waters, who wrote the lyrics, has said: “There’s one song that’s about Syd (“Shine on You Crazy Diamond”), but the rest of it isn’t. It’s a much more universal expression of my feelings about absence. Because I felt that we weren’t really there. We were very absent." Gilmour also added: ““Although “Shine on You Crazy Diamond” is the one that is specifically about Syd, and “Wish You Were Here” has a wider remit, I can’t sing it without thinking about Syd.” These quotes appear at 14:08 and 53:17 on the DVD “The Story of Wish You Were Here”.

This song is about the founding member Syd Barrett. The whole album is about the founder and First lead guitarist of Pink Floyd Syd Barret. The black holes in the sky were his eyes when they looked in it after he had a bad LSD trip and went bad.
When you're having a little moment and want to say fuck it and chill out for 20+ minutes, watch the last 3 tracks from the pulse concert. Wish You Were Here, Confortably Numb and Run Like Hell to finish the show.

I've got a picture my dad took of me looking out over the Grand Canyon with this shirt on. "Wish You Were Here" is on the back of the shirt. Wearing that shirt that day wasn't consciously intentional, but it made for a pretty cool picture.

Pretty sure you are referring to Richard Wrights keys, but yeah I really think thats really Pink Floyd's signature sound.
Your enthusiasm and passion have me hooked. This is my my favorite song ever for multiple reasons.
Hell yes! It just keeps getting better
Pink Floyd always helps me relax. 😎
Pink Floyd will be played forever, they are gods ❤
One of my favorite songs!
We wished our Squeezie Boy was here and -bam ! There he is, and our lives are suddenly a better place to live. Love you Hector ♥
I can’t stop watching you listening to this amazing band❤❤❤❤❤
One of my absolute favourite pink Floyd tracks so pleased you got to it
At the end of Have A Cigar it sounds like the music is coming through a radio, which is how this song, which comes right after HAC, starts.
I'm bingeing on all of your Pink Floyd reactions! I love your reactions on all of them.
👍
Pink Floyd make you glad to be alive even on your darkest days.
it's a pleasure to watch somebody enjoy Pink Floyd, you will keep playing there songs for the rest of your life.
The P.U.L.S.E version of this is magical dude.
Awesome 👌 👏
I'm a couple days late, but here to binge! 💜💜💜Yes! Beautiful and reflective! 🤗🤗🤗
Cheers!
I chose this for my father’s funeral. Always holds a place in my heart.
This song is about Syd Barrett who was a founding member. He did so many drugs that he became insane.
Learning to fly, comfortably numb(the wall) hey you (the wall) Pink Floyd
You summed it up perfectly at the end mate...
Everything going on outside is Fucked.... however many minutes we, you, I can disappear into a song, an album and heal a part of our soul, it's a tonic to rejoice in.
This song means something different to each of us. We all have someone that we wish they were here. For me it’s my old friend Everett. Wish you were here Everett. I really miss you. We all do.
I envy you getting to listen to Pink Floyd for the first time
I have been on the Floyd trip for about 35 years now and it never gets old
Keep up the good work Hector
I'm going to check if you have reacted to any queen albums like Queen II or Day at the Races
I guarantee you will never be the same again
We must protect Hector at all costs ❤️🤘🙏
Contrary to what many think, this song was NOT written about Syd Barrett. And here are the quotes from the band to indicate this:
Waters, who wrote the lyrics, has said: “There’s one song that’s about Syd (“Shine on You Crazy Diamond”), but the rest of it isn’t. It’s a much more universal expression of my feelings about absence. Because I felt that we weren’t really there. We were very absent."
Gilmour also added: ““Although “Shine on You Crazy Diamond” is the one that is specifically about Syd, and “Wish You Were Here” has a wider remit, I can’t sing it without thinking about Syd.”
These quotes appear at 14:08 and 53:17 on the DVD “The Story of Wish You Were Here”.
Wonderful song about them and Sid. Keep up the great reactions please and Thanks.
It wasn't written about Syd. As Waters said, “There’s one song that’s about Syd (“Shine on You Crazy Diamond”), but the rest of it isn’t. It’s a much more universal expression of my feelings about absence. Because I felt that we weren’t really there. We were very absent."

I have a hard time listening to this since Nov 16, 2016... The day my mother left me. But I love your reactions, and tonight I will listen to this in its entirety since that day ❤
I see them live 8 or9 time and still listen today age 64
The best thing...that feeling comes back every single time you're in the company of PF.
It's the gift that just keeps giving.
It's mainly about Syd Barrett
Great reaction. Thank you.
I’m glad you are opening up other people to this wonderful music
This reminds me of junior high school dances. My first boyfriend Steve was much shorter than I was. Great memories that’s what music gives you
Waited for your upload before I went out today 😂👍🏼❤ This is about missing their founding member Syd Barrett.
Loving your journey, Mark - with you every step of the way, mate. I'm a celeb and the world cup can do one - this is where the real action is!! ❤🎸😁👍
Beautiful track. To me, the sound of PF is Richard Wright’s keyboards. Brings tears to my eyes.
Look at you pulling out the Rod Stewart reference 😊
Awesome track from Pink Floyd! It’s deeply emotional song to listen to. Thanks for sharing and it’s a like and thumbs up.😄👍#pinkfloyd
Please also react to “High Hopes” from the Pulse concert. Another band you will love is Nightwish, try “Ghost Love Score” live at Wacken 2013.
I love how you undrestand it pretty well.
This songs is truely hard breaking and beautiful.
It hurts when you are in peace but the person you love has chosen a wrong way and they are no longer with you or in comfort.
Please check "Hey you" its among my top 5 Pink floyd songs.
Another one of my FAVS!!! ☺PF always heightens the senses...if not, I'm not sure you'd be alive. #Thisisourmoment
I've got a picture my dad took of me looking out over the Grand Canyon with this shirt on. "Wish You Were Here" is on the back of the shirt. Wearing that shirt that day wasn't consciously intentional, but it made for a pretty cool picture.
Crazy story i had a friend who would play this song on repeat in the bar and he passed away so i had a drink at home while playing this song on youtube in his memory and when the song went off it played again i felt his presence and i let the song rock again 🙏🏾
