The story goes like Narakasur was king of Pragjyotishpur, he did immense pennace to please maa Kamakhya. When Maa appeared in front of him, he was mesmerized by her beauty, and on an instant he wished to marry Maa Kamakhya. But Maa Kamakhya, gave him an task to create way to her temple in one night, by the rooster's coo, than only she'll fulfill his wish. He started to do his work so that he can win Maa Kamakhya. When Maa saw that he was almost done with the task she gave him, Maa on instant commanded a rooster to coo untimely, due to which the task of preparing the way to the temple remained incomplete, and this was the reason of Narakasur to torture women. That path which narakasur prepared is still here in Guwahati, and the place is known as Mekhela Ujua Path. Inscriptions are still found on the way.

So she is energy and energy is everything so we are just vehicle of her. You can read Shaktism scriptures to understand these deep concepts.
You cannot destroy or create anything without Shakti. Shakti is the prime source of every activity. Shaki is energy in physical dimension. Krishna bhagwan killed Narkasur but with the help of shakti’s creation. Shakti is everywhere. She is the source. That is why before Shri Krishna was born Shakti maa in the form of Maa Yogmaya appeared infront of Kansa to warn him against his ill deeds. According to Vishnu Purana “Yogamaya is regarded to be the embodiment of either the internal or the external potency of Vishnu, or his avatar of Krishna, in Vaishnavism.
