    You will love the 140 hybrids. Very jump un sensitive. I got luck with jump being best when mimicking the factory berger load. Found the most stable node at 2735 out of my barrel.

    I plan to load my 308 and 223 on a progressive with ball powder, including full length sizing. They're "eh, close enough" calibers for me.

    • @jonathonschram3429
      @jonathonschram3429 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do the same. Plinking loads (or cast bullet ammo) for .308 and .223 get loaded in bulk on my dillon.
      I know quite a few prs/nrl shooters that load their match ammo on 550s or 650s. They just use a separate tool head for case prep and measure out each powder charge on a scale off press. I'd probably do the same if I was hitting more than a dozen matches a year.

    FWIW, a friend bought a takeoff Tikka barrel and said he wanted it in his barreled action. I swapped it out for him, and it headspaced on the original shoulder. Impressive. The tennon thread on his takeoff looked like a serrated kitchen knife, though. Both wonderful and terrible machining.

    Hey John, love the channel. I have another reloading question geared towards bullet choice. In the past the best BC bullets were the heavier of a given range of projectiles for a caliber. With options to utilize lead free bullets that are typically lighter for caliber, but longer in geometric shape than an equal weight lead core bullet. Do you feel these would be beneficial to calibers that lack case capacity to drive the heavy traditional bullets to their optimal velocities, (think .223 loaded with 90gr pills) or in the same boat, maybe a compromise to gain velocity for a rifle that is shortened to say 16-18” down from 24” (thinking 300WM in an Elk hunting mtn rifle) for a given purpose but higher BC and SD bullets are desired for that rifle’s tasks?
    I appreciate your opinion!

    Another informative video, thank you very much. There are some 2032 batteries sold that are subpar, some with fake identification as a name brand. (Even on Amazon.) They will give you a good voltage test but are weak performers. I found this out with our alarm system, it uses 2032 for panic buttons. The system would constantly lose contact with them, even when I changed the batteries. When I tried some genuine name brand batteries my problem went away. Th subpar batteries would work OK in my red dot sights, however I would not want them in a carry arm.

    Hello I asked Thompson Center about barrel change for my 308 venture to a 6.5 GM using one of there barrels and this isREFERENCE NUMBER: LTK1114701619402X Please use this ticket number in any correspondence with us.
    SUBJECT: Venture 308 to 6.5 creedmour
    Bruce
    Thank you for contacting Thompson Center. The Venture is not an interchangeable platform. You can change the barrels. You would have to purchase a brand new gun.
    If you have any other questions please feel free to contact us
    Thank you and Have a Great Day! what they sent me...
    I am no gun Smith but I think with go and no go gauge it should work with out changing bolts or mag I think they are just trying to get me to buy a new rifle

    After reading lots of comments, does anyone shoot krieger barrels and get sub half moa? Doesn't seem that they are worth the massive premium.

  • @spraynpray
    @spraynpray 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm pretty frustrated by gas guns. I've wanted a 308 gas gun for a long time. I tried to build one, but parts didn't work together. I bought a custom gun, and it didn't work. I bought a DPMS, and it doesn't work. I was going to get a GAP-10, but the bolt gun I bought from them ended up being crappy.
    I dunno, man. Pretty much every gun I use ends up being garbage, and I can't sell them because they don't work.

  • @afroghair6793
    @afroghair6793 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Man, you folks must be rich. I've seen half moa mag fed from "assemblies" right around a grand$. lr 308 6.5 cm and that's springing a little extra for the criterion 22". 143 eldx's @ 2660 fps w/ h4350. With proper tuning they function like butter. Same with the ar15's.

    • @afroghair6793
      @afroghair6793 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can appreciate "bug holes", but I had to give up "chasing the hole" when I saw the price of custom actions and single point cut bbl's. Although the Brux's seem reasonable.

    Hi John:
    I have a new GA 308 crusader. I broke it in and it is a 1/4 -3/8 gun. I reload already but have no experience with 308. Looking for a good load to start with? Meaning bullet powder etc?
    Thank you
    Garrett

    • @8541tactical
      @8541tactical  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      175gr SMK, 43gr Reloder 15, Federal Match Primer, Federal Brass. That is generally a universal accuracy load for .308 although it is a little slow.

    I did send my Remington 700 sction to Long Rifles Inc to “accurize” the action and other modifications like side bolt release, they do true up the action in their accurizing package. So what Remage barrel can I install myself?

    • @BurnDuration
      @BurnDuration 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Ronald Batalla, I spent a couple hundred bucks a few years ago to accurize my 700 SA receiver and bolt, and it made essentially no difference with the factory barrel, as it still held 0.5 to 0.75 MOA. Changing to a much higher quality stainless barrel made the biggest difference and now hold 0.3 to 0.25 MOA all day long. Granted, ensuring the bolt face is square with the chamber is important, but spending hundreds of dollars in machine labor to true that last 0.001-0.003” of an inch makes no difference from my experience. The barrels’ chamber sets casing headspace and concentricity, and the receiver and bolt face function as secondary supports. IMHO, the barrel quality and ammo quality are what makes the biggest difference.

    What are your thoughts on the prefit shouldered barreled (ie. patriot valley arms) on custom action. Do you think the tolerances are tight enough that the head space will be consistence from action to action based solely on the barrel tenon dimensions?

    Great vid John, as always!
    6,5 is the go to caliber here in Scandinavia for long range shooting. There have been done some extensive testing with the 123 Scenar and we have seen some realy strange behavior when the bullet is close to subsonic. Would be great to hear your opinion whrn you have been testing the bullet at distance.
    The most popular bullet on this side of the big blue is the Norma 130gr Golden Target, god price and high BC for the weight and shoots like a bat on fire out to 1200-1300 yards out of a standard 6,5x55. I use it in a 6,5AI at 3100 fps for PRS style and long range matches.

    Opinions from an AR10 assembler - you pay more upfront but get exactly what you want. AR10s require more research than AR15 do to less standardization and multiple companions with their own take. As a consequence, if you want a quick solution Smith and Wesson AR10 may do you well. When you burn out the barrel get into assembly.

    For precision reloading with a progressive there is somebody using one for f-class, which we know requires the highest level of accuracy possible, especially at this person's level.
    He has an quite an extensive article on accurate shooter dot com. Look up Scott Harris on that site. Sorry, I don't have a link.

    AERO PRECISION makes good receiver sets and complete rifles for DPMS patterned LR-308s ("AR-10s"). Aero Precision uses Ballistic Advantage barrels which I am pleased with. I've also heard good things about the Smith & Wesson AR .308 platform.

    I don’t know anyone who only shoots center fire rifle. All the folks I associate with shoot various caliber center fire pistols too. If you can only afford one loading press you cannot go wrong with the Dillon 550.
    For loading bottle neck cases you can operate the 550 as a single stage press. Since a lot of preparation is not done on the press for precision reloading it doesn't matter what you use, so long it is a good press. Using the 550 station one sizes and deprimes. Station three seats the bullet and station four applies the crimp, if needed for a gas gun.
    When it's pistol loading time just change out the appropriate parts and crank away.

    What's you thoughts/opinions on the Vortex Venom? I'm currently running a DeltaPoint Pro and was looking at getting another DDP or Vortex Razor for a steel challenge gun I'm working on. The Venom is considerably cheaper than either, but I was concerned about, durability, the smaller size, and having to deal with yet another type of battery.

    Replaced my Rem700 Long Range barrel with a Criterion 300 Win Mag Match 28" bull barrel and man does it shoot. Easy 1/2" groups when doing my part and numerous groups in 3/8" territory. Criterion price/performance is awesome.
