Beach Road Level Crossing

A quick view of the disused Newhaven Marine station before two Class 313s in Southern livery pass at the private crossing at Newhaven Harbour heading to Newhaven Town and Bishopstone respectively. The signalbox sits in between the two crossings here and the crossing closest to the train seems to close second, although the order can change on what the signalman thinks apparentley. This crossing is called Beach Road Crossing but Beach Road now does not follow this path and curves right away from the crossing, in front of the big fence. The barriers have no skirts as hardly any pedestrians use the crossing as it is the entrance to the private docks, which you need a pass to enter and a harbour permit I believe. The first clip was shot through the temporary fence on the platform of the disused Newhaven Marine station (now demolished), and the second clip being filmed through the recently replaced metal fence by the crossing. Newhaven Marine closed 'officially' in 2007, and now has had its canopy removed. The station used to serve ferries, but as the ferry became less popular, and as the station is only a 30 second walk from Newhaven Harbour station, it closed. The only reminisce of it is a couple of signs, and the only railway feature left is a working semaphore controlling trains back onto the mainline. Occasionally, a "ghost train" stops in the station with no passengers on-board, but it is simply a train not making the trip to Seaford, and is turning around. Don't be so stupid you think there can be ghost trains or anything you can call a ghost train because that is a shit term.

This crossing malfunctioned today. Amber light came on then reds then went back to Amber and all four barriers came down at the same time

Don't know if you noticed or not but if you listen very closely on the second closure you can hear a broken alarm.

It did not close in 2007 and the station is only closed as a safety measure but still appears in the list of stations for that area and is therefore regarded as open for use by trains

+Trek001 No trains with passengers on stop there though, it is now only used for a headshunt so the driver can change ends and change from the down to up line when the trains aren't running to Seaford
