Hey Chris! First off, amazing videos (both this one and your previous YCA video). Really love your transparency, charisma, and passion for the program. I'm actually in an incredibly similar position to the one you were in (waitlisted for Schwarzman, but still passionate as hell about spending significant time in China and thinking YCA could be a better fit because 2 years >>> 1 year).
I come from an engineering / business background (majored in mechanical engineering, working currently as a management consultant, started some food ventures). My passion is to increase accessibility to sustainable, healthy foods (to curb global issues like climate change + rising levels of health problems, etc.). And I see the private sector, through companies like Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat, as a critical part to the future of sustainable foods and where I see myself after YCA - working in their international strategy teams expanding into China.
I say all that to bring up my concern / to get your advice: For Yenching, especially when compared to Schwarzman, it seems apparent that it has much more of a focus on people who have serious China experience (a box I somewhat check) AND people whose paths are more associated with politics, policy, academics, social issues, and those kinds of things (a mold I don't necessarily fit, which I think is fine!).
So I had a couple questions, or really just points I want to discuss with you:
    >I want to highlight the unique aspects I can bring (as an engineer who now has worked in strategy consulting and interested in the private sector). What's the best way to do that such that I show I will complement my more academically-focused cohort mates?
    >Idk if this is new, but there's a research thesis (1 page) that's part of the application. Given I'm not nearly as academically focused as maybe other candidates / scholars, I want to ensure that my thesis doesn't come off as not-robust-enough or not "academic" enough. Maybe these are silly concerns, so just wanted to get your thoughts here too!

Hi Chris! Thank you so much for this video. This is incredibly insightful and helpful, especially since I'm struggling a little with my personal statement right now. The way you explained how I should approach it really helps reframe and organize my ideas, and hopefully it will eventually become enough to get me in!

Hi Chris, thanks so much for creating this video on the YCA app. You literally helped me roadmap my entire personal statement! I am so appreciative. There is now a Research Interest Statement which requires 1,500 words and I wonder what advice or any resources you may be able to suggest regarding a thesis style proposal for YCA. I have no idea where to start unfortunately. Again, thanks for all this help so far!!! You’re AMAZING!
