    Lovely Advice to bring for starters, thank you for making your video. I also like how its straight to the point and rational reasoning for why we ought to practice these more often!

    Yes! Great tips! Also, don't make suggestions to the director if you're not a key HOD, the producer or client. Thanks in advance :)

    Dont stand in doorways or hallways.
    Dont be on your phone
    Dont walk right in front of lens while Im looking into the VF setting up the shot
    Dont put your drinks on top of the camera cart or bench
    Dont put your fingers on the monitors to point at stuff
    #PetPeeves
    A lot of it is just, be considerate, use initiative and (un)common sense.

    All these tips are very correct. As well just being nice to everyone and being in a good mood with everyone no matter what they do, make a their lives better and yours. I worked on 2 Netflix shows And I had fun with the assistant directors and directors even though I was at the bottom of the pecking order, I got at the end a recommendation for assistant director

    Great content as always!
    Few other things:
    No drinks beside electrics & plugs
    Don't let go of the lenses unless other person confirmed verbally(I mean really how hard is it to respond with "got it" when swapping lenses?)
    No pizza cookie or any type of food that's gonna mess up your nice lenses and cameras with greasy crumbs especially if your job is to swap lenses!!
    All sounds like common sense until your cam assistant does all of the above... Knocking coffee over plugs and dropping lenses if I go on I'm gonna give myself a heart attack lol

    Can you make a video about the workflow process of a dp? from the start to the release of the project! it would really help!

    • @flickcine

      I am actually doing that! It's like you read my notebook. I do have a potential project coming up that would be great for that sort of video. It will take a while to get together because it's a short film and the process is fairly long, but this is definitely on the cards! Thanks for watching 😊👍

    Don't interrupt the AD (unless it's an immediate safety issue) if he's talking to another HOD.
    Had a 2nd who would constantly interrupt me with inanity when I'm talking to the Director, Producer, and DOP.

    Q: Hi Felicia! I'm a young cinematographer based in Sydney (from Spain). It's really nice to see some YT film related content based in Australia and not in the US! I feel like your stuff is so much more relatable to my gigs than the american videos. My question is a bit of technical one. I own a Red Gemini and I'm looking to rent it out. I'd like to do it privately, not using an app. Do you know anything about the process? What sort of insurance do I need, how to make sure the gear is not gonna be stolen, etc? Thank you!!

    • @flickcine
      @flickcine  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Jamie! Nice of you to come by the channel! Unfortunately I don't know too much about insurance for independent rentals. I used to work in rentals for a company and we went through a broker for our policy. We also added a line cost for the insurance.
      It's important to always have the contact information and a copy of an ID card for whoever is hiring from you. Getting them to sign an agreement on the condition of the equipment is also a good idea. Always remember to have a document somewhere that has all of your items and ALL serial numbers, very important to do that. Might also be worth looking into branded stickers with your name or a logo on them too. When we had some stuff stolen we found it on Gumtree a month later and it still had our stickers on it. You would be surprised how silly some people are.

    I like the ending seeing Australia. I have never seen that type of bird before and the landscape and trees look unique to where I live in Florida.

    • @flickcine
      @flickcine  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad to hear you liked it! This area is particularly dry. The trees are all eucalypt. Mostly Red Gum trees. The black and white bird is a magpie. They're awesome! Such a sweet song, you should look up Australian magpie birdsong. They get avoided and hated on a little around this time of year because they are known for swooping people quite ferociously to protect their young. And the little, quick fluttery, rainbow birds are lorikeets, they're a parrot, clever, noisy, but very cute.

    Part of your advice is most useful general wisdom! The compartment question - I am not at all familiar with the practicalities of organization in film crews. Perhaps that would be something to cover in future posts. Assuming that I am not the only one who lacks inside knowledge.
    I love your way of presentation. More practical information and examples would be useful for people like me.

    what is "around the split"? thanks!

    • @flickcine
      @flickcine  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The split is the monitor/s where the client and/or the director sit to watch the footage from the camera.

  • @nnk2391
    @nnk2391 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    As a set dresser, yep we get grumpy because of crew members being lazy not walking a few feet to the garbage and leaving crafty all over especially when the whole place is a set. Bonus points when crew get mad we threw your bowl of food in the garbage because it was on camera.
