    Very good explanation, at around 8:53 in the video where you mention that you have to make a choice as to which prime implicants you want to form a cover, would the number of covers be the number of possible prime implicants that you can combine with your essential prime implicants to cover all the ones ?

    • @DowntotheWires
      @DowntotheWires  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a little more complicated than that. For each minterm not covered by an essential prime implicants, there may be several prime implicants that could cover it. Some of these may also cover other minterms not covered by essential prime implicants. To count the number of covers, you would have to systematically check each uncovered minterm and make a list of the possible ways. In a simple example, if k uncovered minterms could each be covered in 2 ways, the number of covers would be 2^k

  • @aziza7806
    @aziza7806 ปีที่แล้ว

    What happens when all the groups are separate ie doesn’t overlap with any other implicants eg: minterms(0,2,4,5,10,11,13,15) . Will essential PI will be all the PI or thre is 0 Essential PI?

  • @eShredz
    @eShredz ปีที่แล้ว

    For example 2 wouldn't m5 and m14 also be considered EPI or dose it not matter since there is already another term in that PI that is EPI?

    what if you are asked to list the prime implicants?

    • @DowntotheWires
      @DowntotheWires  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      you would list all groups that are as big as they can be, even if they are not required in the final solution. so in the example at 5:30, A'D, CD, and AC are all prime, even though CD is not essential.

  • @oasdas6435

    In the end: why do i have to make a choice? Cant i take both?

    • @DowntotheWires
      @DowntotheWires  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The goal of k-maps is to find the simplest 2-level solution. If you take both, you will have an extra term and your solution will not be as simple as possible.
