Tim, your dad sent me the link to this playlist (I’m a friend of his through parkrun) as he is very proud of what you’d both achieved from scratch with this project. I must say I’ve been absolutely hooked and watched each one with great enthusiasm! Even though you’re both amateurs, the attention to detail and amount of research and forward planning you’ve done is to be commended! I’ve loved following this journey - thank you for taking me on it (I’d love a campervan!) You’ve achieved a real dream come true and I can’t wait to watch on and see where you take this van. I’ve loved all the videos, but my favourite were the carpentry ones because I don’t understand tubes and wires lol. Your van looks very homely now. Did you have any favourite or highly satisfying moments (mine would probably be tearing off the protective layers from the appliances! Haha!)
I based my electrical system on yours and it worked an absolute treat and still going strong 15 months later you two are simply the best I've seen on TH-cam and believe me I've seen a lot well done 👍
Cheers, we like to make it as good as we can so it's a practical and comfy space to travel around in. It does take a long time but it's worth it for us 😊
Another brilliantly produced video and so great to watch, even for someone who has no intention of doing a van build. Your pre-planning, (often for years ahead) is awesome and I just loved the way you could just slide the panel out to finally install the light switch. The final finish to your worktops and pull-out table looks great. I wish I could work to your standard.
Thank you! Yeah we're glad we thought about things like that in advance, it's definitely made it a lot easier to make changes and upgrades in the future if we need to. And cheers, we really like how they came out too 😊
The van is an absolute credit to you both, I'm sure you'll have many happy adventures in your wonderfully finished van. it's been great seeing the progress along the way from the very start what a lot of hard work but so worth it.
Thank you very much, we've had quite a few adventures in it already and looking forward to many more 😊 Yeah a huge amount of work (more than we imagined at the beginning!) but worth it in the end 🙂
Your attention to detail is wonderful and makes for great TH-cam content/viewing. Keep up the great work - it will be a shame when you finish (for us the viewer!)
Thank you, glad you're enjoying watching the videos! And don't worry there will be some travel videos too, and of course all the upgrades that we make along the way 🙂
The beautiful oak worktops and table you’ve crafted for your campervan are stunning! Your attention to detail and craftsmanship really shine through in this conversion. And I am Floating Village Life, Hit follow and let's explore together!
O.K., I have got the EXACT same routers, so could I expect the same result? Hardly. You guys did an absolutely outstanding job. The counter tops and the fit could not have turned out any better. And since I do have a Lagun mount without a particular purpose here, I will opt to install the table in front of the bed in much the same way 😊. I've personally seen the finished kitchen worktops and the rest of the van install and it is truly amazing to see the finished van. It has a very personal note and looks warm, friendly and inviting. An amazing van. 🏆 Cheers and hugs from Germany - stay safe! 🚐☁🍀
Haha cheers, it was quite nerve wracking cutting out all those bits to be fair, one slip up and the whole thing is messed up! Very happy with how they turned out 🙂 Thank you very much and look forward to seeing you again with your van on the road sometime! 😎
I wish you had just the ONE line that is a bit crooked or misaligned so I can just feel a little bit better about myself 🤣 Again, what an awesome video. Thanks guys and congratulations on a super quality build.
Your van is looking really homey now. It was good to see you enjoy a beer after getting the benchtops in place as the benchtops were the last big piece of the puzzle for me too and I remember "inhaling" a six pack of beer after they were in (but not yet varnished, same as you). The cat's camera headbutt made me laugh.
Haha glad you appreciated that, he had perfect comic timing! 😅 And yeah it felt like a big turning point with all the big projects finished so it was great to be able to chill out and enjoy it all for a change! 😀
Great job as usual 👌. Same worktop we have purchased from Worktop Express, cannot find thinner. We are hoping it looks as good as yours when it's done. 🤞
I really, really like the conversion! However, I think I would get claustrophobic when eating or working. The shower is so dominant. When the table is folded out, you are trapped in the seat. Does a shower really make sense in a van? Isn't it better if, for example, you take out a subscription to a gym and then always take a shower there? Is it worth having a shower? I've been thinking about doing my own van conversion for a long time and I'm always at the beginning when it comes to the shower question. I would be happy to hear your opinion.😊
Each to their own, I guess. I've just fitted a pull-out tap with a shower head at the moment which just pulls outside into a popup tent canopy thing... I'm looking forward to the winter months😀. I will fit a shower on my next build but will be small oval fronted one in the corner. I wouldn't like to be basing my destination on wherever my gym is located but again - each to their own. Hope you start converting soon👍👍
Cheers! 🙂And yeah whether to have a shower or not is definitely a personal preference and also depends on where you are and what you'll be using the van for. We wouldn't be without ours, we use it all the time and very rarely travel anywhere there are gyms. We spend most of our time in off-grid rural locations and like to do a lot of hiking and running, so being able to come back to the van and have a nice long hot shower afterwards is fantastic. And we have ours recirculating now too so they can be long if we want without using any extra water. It definitely does take up a lot of space though so isn't for everyone. But we don't find it claustrophobic as we generally both sit together on the big bench seat, or we've started taking the table off (which only takes seconds) and leaving it on the bed if we want a more open area for a while. We use the shower room as a drying area with the heater going into it too if we've got some wet laundry which works great, and of course we have our toilet in there so being able to have some privacy for that is welcome too! We did consider putting the shower further forward right behind the bulkhead which might have left it a bit more open but there's swings and roundabouts with it as we'd have to swap around the layout of the kitchen that we like. But something we'd maybe think about again if we ever did another van. So yeah just depends on how much you value having a shower with you wherever you go really!
Nice work. Would your layout be better if you had access to the cab. Not having to go out outside to get in. There are pro and cons and depending where you camp or on long trips.
Cheers 👍 Yeah every layout has tradeoffs for sure. We wanted the bulkhead so we can use the whole wall for our kitchen and cabinets, and also so that we could insulate it. It's amazing how much of a difference it makes to the temperature just sticking your head through the hatch! But of course there are times when it would be nice to be able to walk straight through to the cab too, we just figured on balance using the space was more important to us. But we can still get into the cab if we need to through the hatch. It's not an everyday thing of course but we can both fit through! 😀
I am set to have my VW transporter converted by summer. I am currently working on the design of build a Sheppard's hut once the VW is complete. Curious to know if building a Sheppard's hut is something that would interest you at the same time. It would make sense to build more than one at the same time, work as part of team and help grow your TH-cam channel! I'm sure there is profit to to made too.
Thanks for the offer, we do enjoy shepherds huts but we've got quite a lot going on already so will have to politely decline. Good luck with it and wish you all the best! 🙂
We wanted it to overhang to just cover the drawer fronts but that varied a bit as we built some more heavy duty than the others, so the fridge drawers are using thicker birch ply than the cutlery drawer which is much thinner cheaper ply. So we ended up with 20mm overhang over the fridge drawer side, 15mm over the drawers on the oven side, and 10mm everywhere else. For us that gives a pretty uniform look everywhere, where the worktop just sticks out further than the drawers if you're looking down from above 👍
I was wondering why you haven't cut a 45degree angle in your worktop then flipped it to create the L shape top? This will create the wood grain to connect nicely too.
Although a 45degree might not be the correct angle (refrained from saying right angle 😂) as your top end maybe narrower to the connecting side. But a diagonal cut with the correct angles should give a better flow of wood grain.. or am I wrong? Good work though. I've been following your progress 😊
Cheers 👍 And it's not recommended to cut a mitre join in solid wood worktops because the way the wood expands and contracts is likely to cause cracks and splits along the join. You can do a 45 degree mitre for a laminate worktop though without issue if that's the look you want, although you end up with more wastage of wood as both lengths have to be longer before they're cut down, so most people just do the masons mitre/hockey stick join instead
Hmm we tried to weigh and keep track of most of the big things we put into the van as we went along, so we know the sink worktop came in at 4.3kg, 5.1kg for the oven one, and 3.3kg for the table after we saved ~500g routering out a bit of the underside from it. Not sure how much laminate worktop would be in the same sizes to compare, but would imagine it would be a little lighter than solid wood. HTH 👍

Awesome, glad to hear it! Hope it gives you many more years of adventures 🙂 And thank you! 😊
I love your precision and thoroughness in the way you work. As a tradesman you put some of us to shame. Well done.😊
Cheers, we like to make it as good as we can so it's a practical and comfy space to travel around in. It does take a long time but it's worth it for us 😊
I was just about to write exactly the same!
@@Albert_206 thanks!🙂
You both should be very proud. With what you have achieved with the van
Thank you very much, we're very happy with it 😊
Great craftsmanship and attention to detail (once again.).
Cheers, it was nice to be doing a woodworking project again after all the technical bits! 😛
OMG. That looks amazing. I was looking at the 22mm oak tops myself and you have now convinced me its the right way to go. The van is looking amazing!!
Cheers! Awesome, yeah we're really happy with our choice, hope you will be too! 😎👍

Thank you very much! 😊
Work tops look so nice. If you have any off cuts, you should change the ply switch plates to mach.
Cheers, we think so too! And yeah interesting idea, we do have some offcuts actually so maybe at some point 😛
Great workmanship. Love you guys!!!!!
Haha thank you! We were very happy with how they turned out 😀
Soo much pride in your work build, thank you for sharing. watched your van build from the beginning excellent.
Thank you, and no problem! We are very happy with it 😊
Great video as always. Van build is looking great
Cheers, glad you like it! 🙂

Thank you very much! 😀

Haha, thank you! 😀
You two guys are so watchable, great VLOG.
Cheers, glad you enjoyed it! 😊
Hi, great build. But now get ready for traveling. Looking forward to watch your first travel video. 😊
They dont show that
Cheers 🙂 There will be some, watch this space... 👀😎
Beautiful work guys! Thanks for sharing.
Cheers, thanks for watching 😊
You got to love a woman who can handle a power tool
We make sure we both do a bit of everything, she often handles them better than me 😛

You're attention to detail is amazing! If you both ever needed a change in career, you could make a living building Vans! 👍😊
Haha cheers, we have enjoyed it but one van is enough for now 😄
You guys are amazing.
Alot of thought put into this build.

Great job guys, did you make a video on upgrading the vans weight?
We did! Well we've filmed it, but it's still waiting to be edited 😛
nerve racking for sure ,but what a superb job
