this is the gig that set my heart on fire ,1980 at Cambridge, England, filmed by the BBC, I put down my electric guitar for the last time and picked up an acoustic and have never put it down. R.I.P Doc and Merle thanks for everything.
Oh, Doc, I know you don't know me. I am just across the Pacific ocean in Japan. A native Japanese, but I have known you for more than 30 years, since the "Clarence Ashley's" or that "Nitty Gritty's circles be un broken"!!! You have taught me the songs and the tunes!!!
I used to jam when I was a kid with my mom, Uncle Stanley and a bunch of our friends to Doc and MTB among many other greats. Thank you for providing some awesome memories.
I believe this is from the Cambridge Folk Festival, England in July 1979. It was broadcast on BBC television and I remember making an audio recording direct to cassette. Long lost now unfortunately.
man, we could use merle right now. can you imagine just how spectacular he would be at this point? i wish doc couldve got him to sing a couple while he was still around.
Man, they are sooo good!! Thanks for posting this. I, too, miss Merle. Is Doc's grandson Richard that travels with him Merle's son? I saw him on a video called 3 Pickers. He is really good, too.
@dp11issosweet I got a Merle Watson Country Slide Guitar instructional cassette back in the early '80's. If you had heard Merle trying to talk his way through it, you would understand why he so rarely spoke on stage, let alone sang.

to the one thumbs down-er - really ????
Not really Bluegrass. Mostly Old-Time Folk.
The best group of them all, anyway...
