God how did we lose that, having been league champions! We had to wait another 18 yrs for our first Munster title, which was the first in 63 yrs. JBM was a class act.

I believe Ger loughnane played in that munster final. People forget Ger loughnane was a Superb hurler. It doesn't look Semple stadium Thurles in Tipperary. Of course I was born that year.

To their eternal credit Cork were a seriously good team during that era but they had the knack of being able to influence refereeing decisions, as all successful teams seem to have. Some of the decisions that were given towards them in the 76 & 77 All Ireland finals were particularly dubious, albeit Wexford had their chances to win it both years and were below their best in 77. Some of the treatment that Tony Doran received from that Cork full back line was atrocious, they literally rugby tackled him to the ground & got away with it

How did it take so long to get rid of the handpass goal? Zero skill involved. Johnny Flaherty in the 80's. Back to goal and bottled up and palms it into the goals. Same in gaelic. Lasted over 100 years 🙄

@@tonyflanagan8265 Cummins dropped the Hurley threw sliotar up with left hand and hand passed it with the right all fouls .Handpass goals were allowed well into the 1980s. Cummins should've got the line aswell ref gave it all to cork no doubt I agree he must've been related to Cummins.
What is Seamus Durrack on about. Jim Power stuck a head in Ray Cummins. Stop whinging man. When Cummins get the goal earlier in the match Power plaked him on the legs and the arm.

Some of the stuff they got away with in the 76& 77 all Ireland finals proves this, albeit Wexford had their chances both years to beat them. Having Frank Murphy in the position he was in amongst referees at the time also played into their favour as they knew full well they’d get away with taking an extra few steps or whatever the case may be
If that Clare team was around now instead of the 70's they winning more munster titles let alone All-Ireland tittles. Clare hurlers were unlucky not at least won a Munster Championship.

Well for 100 years the skill or feat was getting close enough to the goal to be able to handpass while being flaked like a Bullock.
