Pirates is simply the best Lego series ever released. I don't know how to describe it, but I just love this mix of water and land, unique bastion plates (with 3D effect) and ships. Anyway, I prefer bluecoats to redcoats, but I really like Imperial Trading Post and Imperial Flagship. I would love to have a pirate collection from 1989 - 1991 and some from 1992, 1993 and 1994. Thank you for this beautiful stop motion video, it really inspired me to continue collecting this series. Thank, man.
Pirates were my favorite theme as a kid. I actively collected up until about 1993. The only pirate set I never owned back then was the Barracuda. I felt so gratifying to get it on E-Bay in 2008.
I was in 4th grade and remember getting the catalog showing these sets and the pistol and musket and shark and thinking about them all the time. all I could afford was the raft made of barrels
I always wanted to have the pirate ship at the end but being a refugee at the time in the Balkan Civil War I only had a very tiny set. I would look over the brochure over and over again wishing badly to own the ships I saw!
Same story here but i neither lived in war or communism, i lived in Sweden as a kid but didnt get so much, instead mostly looking at the brochure. Being older i understand that i was more lucky not having so much toys, at least i didnt have to live thru war or struggling to put food on the table. Looking back a the war in Bosnia i know why mom always said "be happy your not living in bosnia" theres this image from sarajevo in 1992 with the 7 year old boy whp got shot by a sniper, he was my age, it could have been me. So i dont care much about not having all the toys as a kid.
@@BricksPlanet indeed. Especially the 1989-1994 sets, bring back so much memories n the sets are also decent. I started to dislike the theme when the spanish pirate came in, the sets started to look more n more childish.

the new ones aren't bad really, just different, in fact although I don't think so, there's ground to stand on for some to say the modern sets are better, but there's a certain charm in how simple these early sets are, in fact it's a shame that Lego sets are almost exclusively pre-existing brands such as movies these days with the exception of Lego city, there's more creativity with generic lego themes you can imagine to be anyone or anything vs specific themes with a already written story, besides not every kid interested in lego has played minecraft or has seen Harry Potter you know? but hey that's what the bins of generic pieces are for and you can always take the pieces from movie Lego sets and do your own thing with them, but on a note more related to the topic Lego seriously should bring back the pirates sets full time I remember the 2009 sets as a kid and think current kids would like them too yikes sorry if that was a little long
