I can forgive the scene of the New Yorkers rallying behind Spider-Man at the bridge in the 2002 film because it was a different time and it was very clearly trying to be an uplifting message for and portrayal of New Yorkers who were shaken by the 9/11 attacks. Also beyond that, the 2002 film was a bit more old-fashioned and had a certain sort-of lighthearted whimsy to its tone and style, so that scene felt relatively organic. You might smirk to yourself and chuckle "Oh, come on!", but it still worked. The crane operators in the 2012 film just felt ridiculously schmaltzy and contrived, especially for the more grounded tone the film was going for. What kills me is they could have attained the same effect in a more tonally organic fashion by just having had Captain Stacey radio the crane operators to turn the cranes to give him the straight shot. (Since I think the problem was more related to the fact Spidey would have needed to go a different path to get there that would have taken too long if it weren't for the cranes.) And they even could have kept the father of the boy as one of the crane operators, and have him help out, but it wouldn't have felt as forced as having him just see a news report and radioing his crane-buddies to help Spider-Man.
It irritates me how spoony never checks or find out the reason stan Lee never used the organic web shooters is because he didn't think it was scientifically possible. In one of the Sam Raimi spider man extra they talk about the web shooter.
@@Zangamarth I forget what he said in the extra, but it was along the lines of "we just didn't think it would be possible, so we just had peter make web shooters to compensate"
Got to agree with Miles about the Lizard - involved in illegal trials and maybe murder but now not fussed about his arm because of guilt? Not buying it.
