      You said you can merge all these layers together and then you just do it. How do you merge all the layers together?

    I don't do a lot of portrait shooting, but I appreciate the info anyway! I started watching Tutvid way back in the CS3 days when I was just getting my toes wet with the creative suite. Still watching and still adding new tricks to my arsenal. Your way of instruction has always clicked for me. Keep it up!

    You used subtract-2-128 on a 16-bit image; but I learned that the settings for a 16-bit image are: add-2-0-inv

    • @tutvid
      @tutvid  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Harm Udding There are some who swear by different settings for 8-bit and 16-bit. I could be missing something, but I tend to run the same process on both my 16-bit and 8-bit shots. Thanks for the comment, man!

    why your new leyer is already filled with white and mine no? how to make it filled with white or black from begining? and also my mask when i make it is not black, even if i invert it.

    you did not say how to apply a layer mask to a layer?

  • @DJ5780
    @DJ5780 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    DId I miss something? I don't remember you going over how to edit the low layers.

  • @robertbascelli6433
    @robertbascelli6433 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great tut... except that you forgot to mention that you have to turn off the top layer before applying the blur. I had to watch the beginning 4 times just to follow your mouse. Yes.. a newbie that is learning but this little detail not mentioned was very frustrating as if you dont turn off the first layer, you cant see the blur being applied.

    • @tutvid

      Bahh. You're right. Sometimes I get caught up in the moment and forget small steps along the way. Thanks for pointing it out! Look at this comment, EVERYBODY! 🍻🍻

    Well... I am sorry, 3/4 of tutorial was interesting, but I can't accept blurring skin. I try to follow Natalia Taffarel way, she said to use healing brush on high layer and do nothing on low layer. Replacing details with random noise looks fake to me. But I understand many people will find this way useful.

    • @tutvid
      @tutvid  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Jacek Poplawski Blurring the skin is technically a terrible thing to do, but it's more to show you what is capable with the flexibility of high frequency. I don't always recommend blurring the skin, but there are some photographers that want to be able to. I let them do what they want with their photos.
      I agree with you, though. For the high clarity, high end look, blurring skin is virtually always a bad thing.

    I generally like your tutorials and I really want to improve my frequency separation technique. The one criticism I have is that you go waaaaaaay too fast! Please slow down and explain the process more slowly.
