I love the way Lawrence Preston "sends a message with his eyes" (not quite a discernable wink) to let his son know that in his moment of extreme need, while being mercilessly lied about, that he is there for him and with confident bells on. This is right when you know that the senior Preston has a good line on what is happening and will be able to pull his desperate son out by his very tail (the liars tale). I LOVE THIS!!!!
This was the early 60’s and now All State won’t insure my home. Saying things were better 30, 40 or 60 years ago is not nostalgia it’s a fact. This country is going to hell in a hand basket.
I never seen Jack Gilford as a serious dramatic actor. When I see his face I think of all the Crackerjack commercials he did. "When it comes to crackerjacks some kids never grow up". I was a kid in the '60's, this show was just as good as Perry Mason.
Really good episode and I'm grateful that Ruby Pearl has found The Defenders episodes and put them up. As some others here have stated, I also love that this episode had the old commercials. I also loved that it previewed the episode that would appear the following week. In this case, "The Hidden Fury" guest starring Susan Oliver, who was one of the best actresses of the period. I'm hoping it can be found sometime -- because the preview has really whet my appetite for it.
Haven't found any other episodes in years. You do know that all of season 1 was released on dvd a few years ago. Amazon has it. Can't upload any of those if I want my site to stay up....copyright stuff. AND they're excellent quality, unlike what I've posted off tv from old VHS tapes. @@rubypearl2298 Yes, I knew about season 1 being available. But the episode I'm most interested in is from Season 3, episode 24 "The Hidden Fury". I'm a big Susan Oliver admirer. I'm really enjoying watching the episodes you've posted, even the ones with poor picture quality, because the story lines are so awesome. You've done a great thing posting them. I've been watching one every night for a few days now (I just became aware of the series). I really hope someday all 4 seasons will be available somehow. Thanks for your reply! 🙂
@@semitech6149 I'm surprised Shout Factory hasn't also put seasons 2, 3, & 4 on DVD. Guess they didn't make enough $ on the season 1 DVD's to warrant it, in their mind.

Good episode but I did not see any indication that the taxi driver was going to be charged with perjury and other crimes. He was either psychologically STUPID or deserves to go to jail for a long time!
The DA could have prosecuted him but wanted to know who was behind the jury tampering. Being that he did not have a record he was going to be lenient with him provided his cooperation etc.
I don't know how K. Preston could be held accountable for supposedly meeting with a jury member after the case was adjudged as a mistrial. The accused would be retried with a different jury. So as a matter of course L. Brandt was no longer a jury member when the authorities found him visiting K. Preston after the mistrial.
To CHRISTY I,VE had not heard that infamous word NINCOMPOOP (spelled correcty?) since about 1964 and what memories it brought back such as: DUMBKOFF/PINEAPPLE HEAD/SAUSAGE MACHINE (what is inside ones head while they are talking a mile a minute and no sense being made)/MALADDA (italian for the other guy making no sense at all)/ MALAKKAS (greek for the same above)/FAFADEALE (another italian expression for yet another fella you just have to get away from)/ BIRDBRAIN/NUTJOB*****as of 2021 december 22 these former every day household words are to now be deemed as POLITICLY UNCORRECT (depending on which POLITICIAN $cashes$ in on the exact wording!
Actually, strangely enough, and shown by the playing out of the last events, she DID get a good man this time around. He was a man with a big heart ("deep") but one who was easily hoodwinked because of his desire to help another or please others in his "family" group, illustrious wife included.
It wasn’t that it is that she has to take care of 2 grown men and one is her husband and the other is an overgrown juvenile delinquent who is always getting into trouble and expects his sister to get him out but he didn’t appreciate it and he got greedy and that was his downfall!
It's just make believe, wakwac=who knows who cares! Besides give or take The Defenders and The Brady Bunch after a while Robert Reed in his personal life did not observe a male-female marital association. This eventually lead to his mother and daughter severing family ties with him.
Could be that the episode Poltergeist was the last one for Joan Hacket /(Miller) and as the show must go on she was replaced by another actress /character etc.

oh my - normal fell and jack gilford - the great comedians are often brilliant dramatic actors
they both had many dramatic roles over the years
Mr. Roper and the Cracker Jack man!!!!
So very true !
Including Jack Klugman as Quincy in that group of comedic but brilliant dramatic actors!
Whenever I see Jack Gilford I think of Cracker Jack.
Wonderful! show epitomizing idealistic President Kennedy era. Thanks for posting these awesome episodes.
I heartily concur !!
Excellent drama.
And the CBS Television Network ID at the end..."The Eye In The Sky."
A lovely memory.

I did some research. Robert Reed made more episodes of the Defenders than he did the Brady Bunch.
Now that's interesting.
I'm going to let some folks know. He deserves that
Really ? Very interesting !
I'm sure he enjoyed doing this series more than Brady Bunch but the he needed to work like most of us.
The cast in this episode was first-rate.
There's some fine acting going on there.
You speak the truth, Kemo Sabe ! Of course, I feel that way about every one of the handful of episodes I've watched so far online.
I love these early commercials
I SAW those early commercials.

The head of the judiciary committee was Robert Mandan. He played Chester Tate in the tv show Soap. He was the judge in the middle.
You have a gift for stating the obvious.

The DA saw that the taxi driver was desperate because he lost a month’s pay and he admitted that he lied about the defense attorney!

Ann Jackson!
My earliest memories of Jack Gilford were from Cracker Jack commercials.
the beginning of this makes no sense the judge could have decided the verdict
The judge can overrule such a verdict only if the jury's verdict cannot reasonably be supported by the evidence.
He needs a new wife.
His wife was a complaining shrew!
How could Kenneth Preston cheat on his long term girlfriend Joanie Miller with Judy Thornton?! Or did he dump Joanie in season two?
