the snare is Compressed with a big Ratio maybe 8:1 or higher..with a short attack and a short or fast release time.Thats why they sounds so. Its a Tone technical thing.....or for younger people ...Soundguy thing

Im 70 and listened to rock music all my life. RATM are the most powerful band Ive ever heard in my life. Incredible musicians with a potent message. They still hold up after 30 years. Morello is one of the most incredible guitarists of all time.
