  • Sorry, this is a little boring but it is a major part of the build. Chad pulls off the new fuel tank and step/bracket. Then he strips it and paints it. Then he puts it al back together. One step back, two steps forward... maybe.
In this video, Chad touches on: POR-15, EPDM rubber, Anti-seize, painting aluminium, a touch of welding, and NPTF fittings
In this video, Chad uses brands: Permatex, Alumitank, POR-15, Rustoleum, Mcmaster-Carr
    A bit more information about anti-seize: mogsanddogs.org/2024/03/29/an...

Another nice job Chad 👍. Love your adoption of the “correct” pronunciation of Aluminium!!
You mentioned a couple of cracks that you re-welded……….. is there any chance that these were caused by over stressing of the support structure? We’re they at the 90 degree joint between the vertical and horizontal members, as this is where maximum bending moment and stress will occur.
Personally, I really like the look of the tank in bare metal and don’t think I’d paint it, though that could change over tima as it oxidises.
Oh yes, and I wouldn’t worry about corrosion inside the steel members - it’s unlikely to become an issue for the next 10-15 yrs, especially in your climate!!
    Keep the videos coming 👍

Thanks! You made it all the way through? Lol. The cracks were the far left unsupported square. Probably from standing on it to get into the box. Definitely not part of the corners you are talking about. But agreed, those are my biggest concern.

Hi, why not use Raptor paint? Very usefull for chassis'

Great suggestion! The main reason is I do not like the look of Raptor paint. I also imagine it would not be good if trying to adhere rubber to it. Also, how do you touch it up? Or remove it? I haven't really looked into it much. Thanks for watching!

A magnet will soon tell you what is steel and aluminium if unsure (ferrous, non ferrous)
