  • Molly's upset now her best friends Carol and Sue can't play together. Molly's dad suggests that the catty squabble can be solved by following Jesus's advice to "turn the cheek." Mom and Dad are Betty Lou Gerson (the voice of Cruella De Vil from 101 Dalmations, Red Menace) and Robert Rockwell (Red Menace, "Our Miss Brooks"). Molly was played by Kathy Garver who Cissy on "Family Affair".

    I don't think Jesus meant, make like a carpet and let people walk all over you. It's ok to defend yourself and others. And there is a way of doing that without going too far. The Bible also says, "there's a time for everything" (i.e., war, peace, etc.). So, I think it all depends.

    • @enterthebruce91
      @enterthebruce91 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      That's right, Jesus also commanded His disciples "to sell your garment and buy a sword" (Luke 22:36 KJV). Christians aught to turn the other cheek but the Bible also clearly advocates for self defence. Understanding Bible verses in their correct context is the key to proper hermeneutics (interpretation).

    • @sofiabravo1994
      @sofiabravo1994 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      But I do think the context of this was that we should not try to seek vengeance on her own in the Old Testament God says that vengeance is for him and the New Testament the same thing vengeance is for God we should not try to get even with our enemies but yes self defense is not what I think he’s talking about, Jesus correct me if I’m wrong.

    • @jamesdow211
      @jamesdow211 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Jesus was merely stating to not hold hatred against those who wrong you. Generally speaking, seeking revenge for being done wrong is a fruit borne of hatred. And you know them by their fruits as it says

    "...turn the other check..." must be interpreted correctly. it does NOT mean stand there and get harmed. usually, stopping the trouble maker from harming yourself is helping the trouble maker get the discipline he/she should've got at home. it's time and headache out of your day, not their's. cheek turned. usually, the trouble maker makes clear, to the trained eye, they are to be avoided (in other words, it's obvious to you to stay away from them), so then cooperate and stay away from them so that they don't bring you down with them. cheek turned.

      My mother was a single mom for two decades and she provided for us well, both in the home, outside of it… always well fed and very loved. Our *father* was a cruel sociopathic person who started like this guy and then turned into a tyrant. There are MANY dif types of families and as long as they function they ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL should be.
      Sometimes we’re born into a world of abuse. Divorcing the patriarch and running to happier future was better. I do not agree w you but not bc I didn’t have a stable father figure. Bc I know so very many groups of people who have created their own families because their blood family did not want them would not accept them or the parents were drug attic’s, etc. so you can say “this is how all family should be“ but it’s a very narrowminded way of looking at it especially considering that this is not what the 1940s and 50s looked like it was portrayed this way on television to encourage the populace to do so for the government so they could keep people calm that’s why all the housewives were on Valium because they were overworked and depressed. No, this is not how they should all be a family should be whatever it is that it can be made from people who come together for a common goal. That’s a real family.

    While I very much enjoy these videos the sad part to me is that the America in these old films is gone. We have cast off-as a culture-any shred of Biblical morality and replaced it with postmodern nonsense. The negative results of this replacement speak volumes.

      There’s a revival among younger people..I promise. Most of us have grown tired of how far left things have gotten. Remember, those of us who grew up in the 90s lived in a blissfully unaware state of existence until 2001 :) we too get nostalgic

Kidnap her away from her true fam in the alley, feed her chocolate, sling her around like a rag doll while you force her to listen to your nonsense and then to top it off, just cast her aside whenever your frenemies decide to show up.. well, you can take Jennifer out of the alley, but you can’t take the alley out of Jennifer... she’s not gonna turn the other cheek when it comes to you, Little Miss Pigtails.. just you wait... 😾🔪

      How is this “crap”?! It's saying to love your enemies... The attitude you have here is why the expression “hurt people, hurt people” is so common these days! But it doesn't have to be that way. You can be hurt by others and not hurt others in return... That's what this video is preaching.
      Anywho! I hope you read this in a friendly tone 🫶🏻

      I tried to respond to you before. I wrote several paragraphs on how I was raised to feel the way I do. For some reason my reply disappeared. I'm re-sending the beginning if your really interested.
      That's true. I've always strive to be kind, even when I was approaching 10 years old. I was raised in a conservative family. I was always told good Christian tales. Things like Jesus loves you no matter what, unless you do something that the men who wrote this happy book didn't like, woops, I mean Jesus didn't like. I was too young to understand, but it was long before it started becoming crystal clear.
      It was in the 60s. I was turning 10. The fun orange juice lady from Disney started a wonderfully wholesome TV campaign about how evil HOMOSEXUALS were. I didn't care, I was just confused as to why my parents would get so angry when she talked about it. My parents started saying things "No son of mine will ever be gay!" I thought one of my two older brothers did something they were mad about.
      Eventually I started having strange dreams about boys. I'd try to talk to my brother who a couple years older than me. He'd punch me and call me queer. I was still confused.
      Eventually I figured it out. I was going on 13, the dreams didn't stop, and kept everything hidden deep inside. I kept hearing my parents saying horrible things about me. About how god and jesus hated me and I was going straight to hell. I never let on. I was afraid if they found out they'd kick me out of the house....
      This is all saved of the original reply. If you are really interested I'd be happy to share it again. Maybe someone was offended by the quote I wrote at the end. I didn't originally say it myself, but it stuck with to this day....
      There's nothing as hateful as christian love.
      I'm not a hateful nor a vengeful person. I just live alone and mind my own business. The only outlet I have is pointing out BS when I see it.

    This is great but Jesus did NOT want us to be doormats! And only part of this is true. He sid hitting doesnt solve anything but I distinctly remember being in 8th grade and having two boys trying to pin me to the ground to unhook my shirt and I punched one in the face and kicked the other one in his nuts and let me tell you, it definitely solved my problem! So sometimes, turning the other cheek is not the answer!

    Sanitized idealized version. The true to life version of this is far from ideal and where religion has become involved there is usually some kind of lust for power, money, abuse attached.

    Cringing about how that poor kitten was handled! Sad how such young children are so proselytized with the default behavior model as Jesus. To teach your children not to stand up for themselves paves the way to getting bullied. Roman Catholicism ruined my dad.
