  • How to get pregnant with PCOS - How I got pregnant NATURALLY with NO medications (after 4 years with no period!) Learn what I did to make myself ovulate naturally, and hear my PCOS / PCOD Story.I also discuss my struggle with insulin resistance and gestational diabetes. PCOD (Polycystic Ovarian Disease), also known as PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) is a lifelong struggle that I believe began with my childhood insulin resistance. The major thing that I did just before I was able to get pregnant both times was to cut simple carbohydrates, and do light weight training along with low impact exercise (walking, swimming, etc.) This was very beneficial in inducing ovulation for me, even with the absence of a period. My goal is to show all of my fellow PCOS patients that there is hope, and no matter what doctors may tell you, they aren't always right! Thanks for all of your support...I appreciate it! 💕-Amirah

    My husband and I have been trying for almost 6 years. It's been such a painful thing for me. I've not been diagnosed with PCOS but I'm going to keep pushing about it because I've felt I've had it for years. I'm working on losing weight and i'm still believing for my miracle. I'm glad you made this video and you followed me so I could find this video. I just subbed back. So happy for you!

      Thank you for subscribing. :) God points us in directions for reasons we don't even realize. I stumbled across your video, loved your voice ( I used to own a music school), and subscribed. You followed me back, and found my video on PCOS. What are the chances?! I hope that you are able to ovulate again and that the timing is right. We never monitored my ovulation, but let's just say we are busy bees, so timing wasn't an issue-Lol. Remember to watch your simple carbs, and switch out as much as possible for complex carbs. One of my favorites is sweet potatoes or yams. I buy the ones from walmart with the plastic coating so you can cook them in the microwave. I only put cinnamon on them and they are delicious. Plus, they have tons of Vitamin A and Fiber, so they are very filling. Good luck with the weight loss...I am no stranger to how hard it can be. The struggle is real! 💟-Amirah

    I’m glad I got to watch your vlog. I’ve been fighting PCOS for years now, and it’s so stressful. I go through really bad mood swings and get emotional most times, and it gets to the point where sometimes I just couldn’t recognized myself. I just recently got married and I’m praying and hoping that one day we will be blessed with kids. Excited to hear more from your PCOS journey

    GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR BEAUTIFUL BABIES!!!!! I teared up watching this. I don't have PCOS but I know a girl I went to high school with and she has it and was very very overweight and they told her to lose weight healthy eating and she had to do IVF and she had a baby girl 2 years ago. I am single mom my daughter is almost 7 and my son is 15 months. and it is the best gift in the world. being a single mom is hard they never see their father (but that is a big blessing we are very much better off without him in our lives) so having them 24/7 365 can be exhausting but it is always worth it. I am so happy for you and you are an amazing mother every time you talk about your kids during a video you can see the joy in your eyes and voice when talking about them and that is a sign of pure love for your babies. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!!!! I wish you all nothing but good health and lots and lots of happiness. take care xoxo-Delia

      Thank you for your sweet comment, Delia. :) I thank God every day for blessing me with my amazing little family. I also thank him for helping me have that gratefulness in my heart, because not everyone has the same feelings about their children. It saddens me when I hear people talk about their children as if they are a burden, and I always prays for them to find the joy that comes from being a parent. I am sorry that your children's father turned out to be so unreliable, and I commend you for happily taking all of the responsibly. Maybe one day he will mature into a better person, but regardless, I know they are blessed to have you. I appreciate you watching and for your kind words of support. Have a blessed and happy weekend! 💕-Amirah

    I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2009 I was never able to get pregnant since I had my son in 2002. At the age of 40... in March of 2016 I had to have a hysterectomy because of DUB (dysfunctional uterine bleeding). but I was blessed to have daughter (25), son (15) and a handsome grandson (4). I get to spoil my grandson then send him home. The joys of being a Gigi :)

    Thanks for sharing your story. It took us a while to get pregnant with baby #2 and when I started training for a half marathon, right after I ran the race, we surprisingly became pregnant (very happy). I have never had a diagnosis of PCOS but I'm sure the exercise helped!

      I bet it did help, especially with the insulin resistance and how it jump started your metabolism again (and ovulation). That's my main problem now...if I exercised more then I would have more energy, but I don't exercise because I don't have energy to start with. My blood sugars are so much better if I can exercise at least 3 times per week. #goals :) Thank you for commenting! Have a beautiful afternoon! 💕-Amirah

    Thanks for sharing experience! I'm so extremelly happy for you. Infertility road is tough and heartbreaking. And it was for me, 43 yo pretty ripe age for any sort of treatments. Together with a dh for a total of 5 years. I survived one miscarriage and no further success. dx PCOS. We tried 2 lapos to make my tubes clear. But this did nothing. My eggs became absolutely useless. We switched clinics. This time found ourselves in Ukrainian one. They transfered one beautiful 5-day blast which made home and developed into a sweet baby. Our stories here differ so much. We all look for the possible ways out of being childless. And we should never stop to achieve aims. Babydust to all struggling ladies here!

    I am happy that this sounds so familiar with my own experiences, I was on bc for 10 years to regulate my period. then going off of it and now on another medication to try and assist trying to get pregnant, but I also just jumped up in weight and weight training is actually what is working to slowly shed the weight is the only thing that is working instead of being on the tredmill for hours. Thank you this story really gives me hope for my future.

    This gives me hope. I've had irregular periods all my life and I've never been diagnosed with anything. I had my daughter in December of 2017 and haven't had a period since. I got the merina IUD 4 weeks after I had her and got it taken out March 2020. Still no period. So I have no idea if I ovulate or not and haven't wanted to spend money on ovulation tests to get my hopes up. Were praying for another baby. I'm starting to work out and eat better so fingers crossed!

I read an article recently that said women with PCOS often find it easier to get pregnant later than other women. I had both my babies after 30, so that makes sense to me. We also reach menopause later than other women, which can be a plus as well. Sometimes we have appreciate the small stuff! :) Prayers for you to have your little one.

    I want to say thank you for making this video. my story is almost like yours. when I was young I was skinny. never had a period. tried birth control and they wanted to see if I would regulate after I got off of it and I didnt. then they told me I had pcos and insulin resistance. then they told me I couldnt have kids. I'm still struggling to this day and I'm only 23. I want to start a family now with my fiance but I can't get pregnant. I don't ovulate or anything. the doctors wont even give me medicine to try and help me have a baby. they're literslly doing nothing. they always say we're not sure why you don't have periods we don't know what to do...

    • @AdventureswithAmirah
      @AdventureswithAmirah  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Things I would recommend to help you ovulate: cut all soy from your diet if possible, use hormone-free dairy products, try to eat lower carbs and definitely increase your protein intake. Exercising 3 times per week, even for just a 20 minute walk, can also help. Start slow if you are not used to it. I think I got pregnant both times after I lost about 15 lbs. ( I just didn't find out until I had already lost 30 lbs). I would also cut a GMO (genetically modified) foods if you can because our bodies don't recognize them properly, and they can disrupt our metabolism. Finally, start taking a probiotic. We love the chewable banana or strawberry ones from Vitacost, but Acidophilus tablets will work also. Just keep any of them refrigerated after opening. Let me know any way I can help. 💕 -Amirah

    I started having my period at age 13 and from there on i had my period every 2 years , since im put on the b pill i havent got any natural periods after 19 yrs old. So i sticked with the bpill to atleast let my uterus be protected and 'work' . I quit the pill for over a year and a half now . Im now 28 , the hospitals didnt want to treath me before because when i was a teenager they claimed itll pass . And i wasnt ttc , so they didnt think it would matter . well i have had unprotected intercourse with my husband then boyfriend for 3 yrs and never got pregnant . Today im getting to a well known hospital for another try . Cause the first two hospitals i went to confirmed pcos but coudnt treath it . Long story short im starting my journey now once again , this time i will go for this as much as needed.. Wish me luck , I hope i will be back texting you with the happy news of becomming a mom

      I hope that you and your husband will be blessed with a little one soon. :) I know how difficult it is when no-one seems to have any answers. I don't know if you are having any issues with your weight yet, but if you try the lower carb diet and increase your exercise for about a month it may help you ovulate. No medical person will tell you this, but it worked for me twice. Good luck on this journey...I am here if you need to talk! 💜-Amirah

    I was born with this and I wasn’t diagnosed until I was 25 years old. Every doctor I had been to over the years never mentioned anything about me having PCOS. I cried because for once I was able to pin point why my body felt weird. I constantly felt like I was on a roller coaster of emotions. And THE HAIR!! I’ve had hair on my chin since I was born. Going to the doctor before getting diagnosed doctors would say… it’s your weight. I struggled losing weight and couldn’t understand why. It took a Nigerian doctor to tell me at 25 years old that I in fact have PCOS.

      I would not recommend taking any birth control if you are trying to conceive, because even if your periods regulate and you stop taking the pill, it can make it more difficult to conceive. Many girls with PCOS take metformin to help with the insulin resistance, which also helps with your hormones. Prayers for a happy pregnancy when the time is right. Have a beautiful day!! 💕-Amirah

    What a beautiful story with a beautiful family.yeah I am getting worried.I was on BC for 15 yrs and I stopped it about 5 months ago.was given a prescription 3 months in that forced my period once.nothing since.bought hormone fertility pills that have helped with the horrible acne after coming off BC.but no period.as of yesterday I have started seed cycling hoping that might help.drastically cut our carbs started working out almost every day to loose weight.i was not diagnosed with pcos my last ultra sound showed cysts on my ovaries not in them like pcos.but I am still taking this approach because honestly I dont full trust doctors.do you have any tips for me?thank you again.

    • @AdventureswithAmirah
      @AdventureswithAmirah  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Many people with PCOS have cysts on their ovaries (not inside of them), so it is highly possible that you do have PCOS. A major tip is to avoid soy and soy products like tofu, some protein shakes, protein bars, etc. Look for whey protein if you are cutting carbs. Let me know if you have more questions. Best wishes on your journey to a successful pregnancy. 💕🙏🏻

    Hi :) I would love to know more about all the early pregnancy symptoms you had because I neither have natural periods, only induced periods and can go years without a period if I don't take birthcontrol (I have pcos). I am almost 30 and have been eating a very low carbon, no sugar diet for almost a month now, plus exercise.. I am losing some weight already and feel like I might end up getting pregnant like you, without a period. So I'd like to have an idea of all the possible symptoms that a woman with no periods could experience, plus how fast did you get pregnant after losing weight. Thank you so much, your video was awesome!

    • @AdventureswithAmirah

      Thanks, Vanessa. :) I actually got pregnant as soon as I lost the first 25-30 lbs., like within a few weeks. I was still playing racquetball and going to the gyms several times per week. Sometimes I would feel a little dizzy, and my abdomen felt a bit different. The biggest thing I noticed was the change in my emotions, as I talked about in the video. I would just call it intuition, but somehow I knew. Let me know if you have other questions, and have a great night! :) 💕-Amirah

    • @AdventureswithAmirah
      @AdventureswithAmirah  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Valerie! :) Have you always been irregular, or is that a recent development? They say that in your age range if you have been without a period for 6 months or more then you have hit menopause, but if you have PCOS then it would be difficult to know. You probably do have some eggs left if you are interested in InVitro fertilization. Since you may not release the eggs on your own, you could still have them taken out and fertilized that way. I finally got pregnant at 31 yrs old, after many years of trying. Thank you for watching, and let me know how things are going. Hugs... -Amirah

      Thank you! You may be young, but you have every right to be concerned. It is not healthy for our bodies to go so long without a period (it is like our own self-cleaning system). Make sure you are getting your annual pap-smears because when those cells build up inside of us and aren't released during our period, they can become cancerous. If that happens, you want to catch it at the beginning! That happened to me when I was younger, and I had an abnormal pap-smear. My gyn. had to do something similar to a DNC on me to get the abnormal/pre-cancerous cells out, and he said it was due to the absence of my period. Thank goodness I was able to finally have kids, and I thank God for that every day. If you have any questions at all, or need to just talk, you can contact me on here or on my FB account under Adventures with Amirah.. *Please answer* 🙏🏻 I have PCOS and complete amenorrhea ever since i can remember.. i would just take normal bc pills to regulate periods but they are fake/induced periods... I never get my period naturally . How is it possible you got pregnant without your period which means no ovulation?? Main question... I noticed you said you have back problems ? What kind ? I have back issues too and it is my MAIN CONCERN if I do become pregnant because of the pain it will cause. I have bulging discs in my lower back , possibly herniated and it hurts me a lot if i sit down for a prolonged time .. how did you manage the back pain during pregnancy? @AdventureswithAmirah  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, Alanna. Sometimes for my back I would alternate heat/cold packs and I would also have my husband rub my back. One think I learned from physical therapy is that our leg muscles tighten when we sit for long periods of time, and then when we stand those tendons/ligaments are shortened and rip at our back. It is quite painful! Now, I make sure to put my foot up on a stool or chair and bend to touch my toes to stretch my leg muscles. I do this for each leg. I also have my husband rub my hips around my SI joints.

      @AdventureswithAmirah  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      So sorry I am just seeing this today. I don't know if you have any weight to lose, but if so, that can jumpstart your ovulation. Did they put you on metformin for the pcos? Sometimes that will help as well. I also would omit anything with extra hormones, and go organic on dairy and meat. It's a little more expensive, but WalMart has good organic dairy products now. The hormones from the cows can severely disrupt our reproductive system. Best wishes on your journey to conceive. Thank you for watching!💕

      No, I did not have spotting in between or take medication to start a period. My body released an egg without the presence of periods. It is actually more common than people would think. My only changes were 1.) watching what I ate (around 1,800 calories per day with higher proteins and medium carbs, and whole grains), 2.) working out about 4 days per week -with 15-25 min walking or jogging and weights 3x per week) and 3.) I have pcos. I have had it since I was 15. I have gerd, acute gastritis and a hiatal hernia. I'm borderline diabetic but havent had to take any medication. In the last 10 I have wanted a baby with none to be seen. I have not taken birth control since I married my soon to be ex husband. The first 5 years I didnt really have a regular period. 3 years ago I started having them regularly. I have had a few misses but very few. None of the misses resulted in a period. Now I'm with someone new. I've never been happier. Since the separation I have lost 30 pounds roughly. Now I have missed a period. Normally one starts a few weeks later or by my next missed. Nothing has happened and the next missed period is rearing its head. I feel something may be different this time but I dont want to get my hopes up. What all symptoms did you have when you were pregnant besides the depression?

    Nice!! I too haven't had a period for 3 years. I have started 2 supplements to help with the estrogen dominance and insulin resistance: DIM, recommended by Dr Berg; it is a concentrate of broccoli and other veg to help remove estrogen and inositol, recommended by 2 fertility books, to reverse pcos in 87% of patients. Fortunately both of these are sold in my grocery store, HEB. Besides the coconut oil and Himalayan sea salt I add to my food, I am eating and drinking items with 4 grams of sugar or less. I am amazed, my weight is dropping without exercise. I am doing a little fasting here and there. I hope you check into it. I've had frustration trying to lose the 40 lbs I gained.

I've seen tons of doctors all over America and none of them believed I was born with PCOS. Hopefully, they explained that you are probably insulin resistant as well, so your easiest way to control that and your PCOS is to cut out sugar from your diet as much as possible, while increasing healthy saturated fats and protein. This will help you to ovulate. It may take a while for you to get pregnant, but it will happen. It took us almost 7 years to get pregnant, but as soon as I changed my eating plan it happened within a few months. Your carbohydrate level should be lower than a person without PCOS....no soda, sweet tea, etc. Coconut oil is a healthy saturated fat to increase in your diet as well. Absolutely NO soy...including soy sauce. Soy specifically disrupts our hormones with PCOS, and most soy in the US is genetically modified. Speaking of, start looking for foods that are not genetically altered, because that affects our hormones as well. Sorry, I know this is a lot of information, but it's worth changing your eating habits if your ready to have your sweet little one. Summary: No soy, No GMO foods, Lower Carbohydrates, High Saturated Fats, Higher proteins. Let me know if you have any questions. Have a beautiful and blessed day! 💕-Amirah

      I have heard that it can help with metabolism. It's also good for tons of other stuff, and some people have said it helps prevent certain cancers. It's worth a try! I actually just ordered some ACV tablets from Vitacost. I tried to drink it before, but BLEH! Lol Hopefully, these will be easier to stomach. I have another video coming later this week that is PCOS related. Thanks for watching, and have a wonderful week! 💕-Amirah

      No, I was not in menopause.The cysts on my ovaries were causing a hormone imbalance, which made my period stop for many years. My period came back after my second baby (12 years ago) and I still have not gone into menopause yet. Thanks for watching.🙂

    I have pcos wow I was told I couldn't have kids

    • @AdventureswithAmirah
      @AdventureswithAmirah  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Ashley. Please do NOT believe that you can't have kids just because you have PCOS. So many doctors are still uneducated about our disease. PCOS is almost always co-existent with insulin resistance, because our body does not process carbohydrates efficiently. This can disrupt our hormones and make it difficult to ovulate. Many doctors don't even realize that we are BORN with PCOS, and try to blame weight gain for our disease, which is the opposite of the truth. Exercise is one of the simplest ways to help our bodies use insulin correctly, but I know it is hard to exercise when we don't have a lot of energy. Make sure to eat plenty of fats like coconut oil, avocados, nuts, etc, and try to cut out simple carbs and anything with sugar. Be careful though if you are not trying to get pregnant RIGHT NOW, or you may end up with a sweet little surprise like I did. :). Please let me know if you have questions or need support through your journey. Have a beautiful week! 💕-Amirah

      That's what happened to my Mother-in-Law! She thought she had already gone through menopause, and then ended pregnant with her 6th baby. She's a college professor, and thought she was done with kids and ready for retirement and then she got pregnant at almost 50!
