It is not Pakistani music. The singer is from Azerbaijan, and the type of music he is singing calls "Mugam" which is the heritage of art to the world from Azerbaijan. UNESCO also recognizes "Mugam" as an intangible heritgae.
She never said it was Pakistani music, she just said she's unschooled in the arts of Pakistani music and the music from that part of the world, Azerbaijan being part of her latter statement. I know it's not the same, but most western people identify the sound of this type of music under the same identity.
I always thought that music has no nationality. Only people do, it is what is written in their passports. Before the 1920s, not even people had passports. And life went on anyhow. I do recognize and appreciate cultural influences on the way people make music, but the thought that music could be "Pakistani" or "Swedish", or whatever, is alien to me.
Alim Qasimov is the one the most famous master of Mugham technic in Azerbaijan! You remember Dimash has used this technic in Sinful Passion also...Azerbaijan and Iran are using this technic by changing position a bit; Both are tastefully!Check for Homayoun Shajarian from Iran,he is crazy also🤗
Alim Qasimov is legend, but the world doesn't know this is really dismal. When I was listening this music, I thinked I'm heaven now. Thanks for support to Azerbaijan Folk and Azerbaijan culture.
This poem from Seyid Azim Shirvani is one of my favorites. Alim Qasimov's angelic voice and instrument players together are art. Personally can not sleep a single night without listening to this masterpiece once. Thank you for your reaction.
Dear Valerie, its the first time I am wathcing one of your reaction videos. Your vision and comments are pretty good, positive, and professional. I think my Azerbaijani friends have already left very informative comments about who Alim Qasimov is and what kind of music he makes and so on. As I am from Turkey and am pretty much into ethnic/traditional music, I would like to leave a comment to introduce the clarinet player. Maybe someone already talked about him in the comments, sorry if I missed that. His name is Hüsnü Şenlendirici and he has Roman background. He is an extremely talented and well known clarinet player in Turkey. What makes him so special is that he is not only playing very typical traditional Turkish/Greek songs, he has also taken part in wide variety of jazz/blues projects like Alim Qasimov. Basically all the musicians in this video are very interesting and open minded who do not hesitate to collaborate with the very different kinds of musicians. I think that makes them more special. th-cam.com/video/IdNZFMN9Nus/w-d-xo.html
A translation of this song at the end of this comment. It's of course impossible to explain thousands of years of culture tradition and spirituality of a nation that is so far and different from yours in many ways. i was born in Baku Azerbaijan and i respect your honesty and effort to understand this music and culture. i could see by your facial expressions while your were listening at some points you were deeply moved it seemed almost to the point of tears, this is exactly what this music is about, it meant to open and cleanse your heart, it's a spiritual journey of love and true meaning beyond earthly temporary pleasure and gain, transcending the sufferings all humans go trough between birth and death regardless of nation race color gender or location. this kind of music is transmitted from heart to heart not mind to mind. the violin like instrument called Kimancha and it's an ancient instrument. Alim sings a poem written by Seyid Azim Shirvani in the 1800s, here is a translation provided by Hakim Ist on the comment section of the original clip. stay safe, peace. O friend, today don’t drag me to the outskirts of wilderness, The moon is not up there, contemplating will be emptiness. The tip of your plaits turned me into a quean fairy, To blame Adam for bringing me to this world of bitterness. Seeing reflection of your face in the wineglass, o dear, With hundreds of hues, stirred in me another hopefulness. With the fervor of your fringe, I am tainted in black, I know I have been believed to have the Kaabe’s holiness. That beloved shouldn't be such ashamed of my affection, I know I have been identified with Sayyid* the shameless. *Sayyid is the pen name of the poet
Dear Valerie thank you for your sincerity. Mugham performers are trained since childhood to classical, opera and mugham performances that allow them to use their voice as an instrument. Their music knowledge is broad and deep, and it has never been limited to only ethnic performances. Mugham is performed by Azerbaijanis living either in Azerbaijan or Iran.
"What should I say to Adam, who brought me into this world?" I dont catch all the lyrics in persian-azerbaijani blend, but when I catch, it really hits.
Great reaction! Thank you for that beautiful music. I definitely recommend you to check out another singer from Azerbaijan. Her name Sevda Alekperzadeh. She is very well trained of mugam and jazz. If you'll check "Gulchohrenin Nalesi" cover version by Sevda Alekperzadeh - easily can find how mugam fits Jazz, Rock and opera. I promise, you will not be disappointed. Also other my favorites from her: "Arshin mal alan", " Nigarin ariyasi"
Вся азербайджанская музыка, можно сказать, основана на мугамах (а их много) и ашугской музыке. Есть даже джаз-мугам, основоположником которого является Вагиф Мустафазаде.
Thank you for the reaction ! I agree with someone earlier that suggested you check Humayun Shajarian. I saw him in concert last February and it was amazing. It's frustrating I only understood some words of the song, my azeri grand father died before I could really learn the language...
That was amazing, I suggest you react to Dhafer Youssef - Soupir Eternel he is an amazing well know singer, also husnu "the guy on the clarinet" is performing with him
That was absolutely beautiful. Now that you are into world music, may I suggest something different. You won't be disappointed. Please find Kaushiki's Jamroom - Madhuvanti in TH-cam. Vocalist extraordinaire:)
Lady this music is prevalent in the Sufi world, it helps the listener to take a inner trip to feel the soul. If you may also listen to Ibn Alrabi Group, another mystic soul carrier kind of the Soul WIFI into a world we can't describe as there are no words to define the feeling. The lyrics are all connected to Rumi's love for God. Enjoy ad welcome to the Beautiful Sufi World.
Alim Qasimov is not a legend in Azerbaijan, but very much admired in Iran. Btw, I’d recommend you take a look at Homayoun Shajrian. He sings sublime too.

Just to let you know they are not from Pakistan. Except Goddard; which is a French artist; they are Turks; two from Azerbaijan and one from Turkey. The piece they are singing is a very old poem. Alim Qasımov is a legend. West has to much to learn from the East and they've wasted too much time looking down on us, shame.
