    When i was an as90 gunner i used to just think of it as a job .
    Now when i watch it as a civi it make the hairs on my neck stand on end realising how awesome that job was

    I live in wiltshire and went to a few of the artillery days in the early 70's and a schools careers day when they did live firing. I think they stopped due to security reasons and the IRA troubles of the 70's. Never knew they held any of them since then. As a lad we could hear the whoomp of the distance big guns going off nearly every day and see flashes at night when night firing went on (I live 20 miles from ranges) - since the 70's it has got very quiet. I presume the cost cutting means lots less live firing

    I remember attending this event, I would probably rate this as one of the the best days out I've ever had! Shame I only had a stills camera with me.
    There was an official video apparently, but never managed to secure a copy. Would be interested in obtaining some more footage of the live fire event, if anyone has some and is willing to share.
    Hopefully they will run them again one day!
