Lauren welcome! I gave you a great review I hope it helps you as much as the session did. I'm heading to Asia for 8 months if you have any tips I'd love to hear them!
Playa cristal es una de las mejores playas de Colombia por su belleza a pesar de que su arena no es totalmente blanca pero, lo que más se disfruta es porque es más tranquilo sin vendedores ambulantes.
Hola Aygenlina. Me convenciste ! Vamos por primera vez a Colombia con mis hijos, y acabo de agendar Santa Marta y Playa Cristal gracias a tus sinceras apreciaciones.
Hi sweet Ayngelina! You've convinced us!! Santa Marta seems like such a little gem of a place ☺️We're moving to Cuenca within the next year but Santa Marta is the first place we want to visit once we're a but settled!! So excited to see where you'll be taking us in 2023☺️💗🙏
Ayngelina, another great video. A few comments. The “Lime” you spoke of, is actually a Lemon. In North Am. We get the Meyer Lemons, who’s h is a cross between a Green Lemon and a Grapefruit. I was very surprised to see you liking the Coconut Rice. I had it twice in Bogotá and never took it again. Terrible stuff. Do you think that the quality in Bogotá is so poor. Or do we have different opinions on that dish. BTW. You should have had some Suero with you, for your Patacones! Last thing. Are you certain of Mojárosle being Talapia? I find it larger and more flavourful, than Tslapia. A word of advise. If you ever order Mojáro in a restaurant. Especially deep fried. Ask to see the fish before they cook it. Colombians believe in freezing every meat they have. They also turn up their deep fat fryer to the highest setting. They don’t know the concept of defrosting a day prior to using that frozen meat. What you end up with is a fully Golden Brown Crispy fish on the outside. And pink raw meat on the inside! It’s not pretty. I’ve had Fish and Ribs like this a few times. Not to mention frozen egg rolls at Asian Restaurants a few times as well!
Thanks for such a thoughtful comment! On the meyer lemon, those are yellow but this is green? So as for the coconut rice, I think you should try it on the coast. I am a very regional eater. For example in Ecuador, which is tiny compared to Colombian I never eat coastal foods in the Andes. Rice is better on the coast, could be altitude? But the coconut rice was delicious and I don't like rice. Yes I'm certain mojarra is tilapia, actually a fishermen friend ID'd it for me visually and so I asked around about it. But I was starting to suspect it as it's such a thin fleshed fish and actually one of my least favourite. They are pretty invasive fish and not native to South America but because they are so cheap to farm they are so common, which also why I started to think it was tilapia as it's always the cheapest. And I'm from the East Coast of Canada. I grew up on fish. You can tell the difference between previously frozen fish but mine was fine throughout the coast. And I don't eat fish or seafood in the Andes. Even in Canada I won't eat it unless I'm home because 1) it's not as fresh and 2) the cook didn't grow up in a culture of it and you can always tell.
@@ayngelina yes the Meyer Lemon is a man made lemon. If you ask for lemons south of the Rio Grande. You will always get a green lemon. Glad to know the rice was much better quality, than that in Bogotá. I mentioned about the frozen problem, as more of a general warning for you or anyone else. I’ve often said, Colombians, freezers and deep fat driers just don’t mix! Keep up the great videos, they are my favourites. I’m very surprised your not getting many more views!
Ahh well TH-cam is fickle. I keep telling myself low and slow is far better as I'm still learning how I want to share stories here. But a few more views would be nice 🤣
I'm planning a quick trip to Colombia. I'll probably spend 10 days there. I plan to fly into Cartegna then plan from there. Do you have any recommendations for budget places to stay in Cartegna and also where would be another place to visit from Cartegna? Thanks!
I have videos from Cartagena and a few from Santa Marta. Are you looking to stay in hostels or budget hotels? Colombia is a great budget destination outside Cartagena.
A few questions Ayngelina- how long was the boat ride from Santa Marta? Did you find if there are bigger boats? What is the restroom situation on that beach? Thank you
No problem. The boat ride was maybe 15 minutes though you could also enter different ways so it’s shorter. I don’t think you can get bigger boats because it’s a national park but you could get a private boat and get them to go slower. I went to the bathroom in the restaurant on the cliff and it was fine. Down below the restaurants also have bathrooms but keep in mind they are all cottage like as it’s a national park so plumbing and building is kept to a minimum.
Other tourists & vloggers we're very traumatized taking a boat to a island in CO! Very dangerous waters, poor boats, & clueless captains ! Not sure what locale it was! Did you go birding in Santa Marta?🦜 #1 place on World I guess🌎
@@ayngelina Pargo Rojo / Red snapper …. The costeños may call it Mojarra , But definitely the fried fish in your plate was not a Tilapia . If a restauran right in front of the ocean is offering freshwater fish … something is not quite right

Oh Ayngelina, this IS a beautiful beach and, the views there - wow!
No doubt you aren't that far from the Caribbean 🤗
Thanks for sharing ...
Yes this the Caribbean side of Colombia 😊
Hi, Thanks for visiting our beautiful country Colombia 🇨🇴 greetings from USA 🇺🇸 ❤✌️
It was all my pleasure. I can’t wait to go back.

Claro, dije eso en mi video
Thanks for haveing the courage to leave the beach and the crowds to climb to the Mirador. A great adventure.
I'm always more curious than courageous but either way it was my favourite part of the trip
Outstanding vlog my friend, these shots are outstanding! Absolutely stunning scenery!
Thank you so much. Getting up high you really are just how beautiful it is there during rainy season.

Esto me hace muy feliz de escuchar. Por favor, hazme saber cómo te gusta!

Sign up for the Wingo airlines newsletter. They have great deals when you want a Caribbean vacation.
Columbia has been on my radar also! Excited to have you back in this part of the planet. ❤️🔥
The beaches are definitely better than in Ecuador. The Pacific just doesn't hold a candle to the Caribbean
That beach looks amazing! I've never been but is on my list for next time.
Just make sure you have a dry bag because we were all soaked when we arrived.
I love my santa marta ,is a paradise ❤
It really is, what other spots would you recommend?
@@ayngelina parque tayrona
Good tip, I still haven’t been yet
Great video thank you!! Planning on going there in december with my family 😊
Christmas in Colombia is amazing, they really know how to celebrate all month long.
Thanks again.
It's all my pleasure 😊
I'm so jealous. Great work.
You should go next time!
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Looked like the best swimming area is where the boats were tied up, but very beautiful.
Yeah they need to avoid the coral. If you leave the main area and go down to the other end it's also really nice.

It's rough to beat Caribbean beaches and I was lucky to visit in the rainy season when everything is still so lush.

No birding this time as I was in Colombia alone but I do know Andres has said Colombia has a lot of birds.
That fish you eat at Playa Cristal was not a tilapia ( Freshwater , farmer raised ) that beautiful fish was a Red Snapper
Mojarra is snapper? I thought that was pargo.

They offer mojarra all along the coast. Ok so reading a bit more some places called tilapia mojarra and others tilapia
Cute
