    Thank you soooo much! for this vid! I'm just getting into gyroplane flight now that my life is enabling this lifelong dream to become my reality. Of all the various forms of mankind taking flight, the gyro plane( gyro copter as I like to refer them to) takes my interest to a whole new level. It's people like Joe and people like you (making and presenting video) that helps make this world a better place. Thank you for sharing your adventure with us. It is greatly appreciated. Looking forward to another gyro copter video from you. Thanks again!

    In the late 1950's the British built a big commercial airliner-size passenger carrying compound gyroplane called the Fairey Rotodyne. It was intended to provide passenger services into and out of the centre of London avoiding the main London airports on the outskirts of the city. However, it was unacceptably noisy and was scrapped for that reason. For a photo of it Google images.

    Very smooth video for a gyro - what were you using? I could only get video this smooth with an Osmo

    • @FloridaFlying
      @FloridaFlying  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jeffrey Hartog so there are probably a few things that helped the video be really stable. I used a GoPro 6 mounted on top of the helmet but actually the stabilization was off for the flight (the GoPro 6 has amazing stabilization when turned on). I think my body absorbed most of the bumps. I also had it set on the widest field of view, and that’ll help too. Also Joes gyro is just a very smooth gyro all around, you can see that there’s barely any stick shake. I’d say the helmet mounting did most of it. The osmo must be awesome when mounted to the plane itself. If you want stable video, get the hero 6 and now the 7 is supposed to have incredible stabilization

    • @jeffreyhartog4556
      @jeffreyhartog4556 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great thanks, yes I think, your body absorbed most of it - even the smoothest gyro will have discernible 2/rev shake. Most importantly I'm looking at the landscape, which looks very smooth. I have a Go Pro 6 and still seem to get some rolling shutter artifacts. I'll check my settings. What software do you use to download etc. That could also affect things depending on settings.

    Cool machine, no doubt & would like to go for a spin one day. As for me I'd prefer a Trike, so worst case. I can hang glide down to safety, in the event of an engine failure. Before anyone jumps up & down, I'm aware an engine failure in a Gyro doesn't always mean the end & notify loved ones. But say if Joe had a medical issue, your average person couldn't land it safely. Where as in a trike, the chances of a survivable landing go up significantly. Before any butthurt replies come in, I'm allowed my personal opinion. I know this is a YT comment section after all.

    • @FloridaFlying
      @FloridaFlying  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there, thanks for sharing your opinion. I agree with you for the most part, although I think the landing forward speed of a gyro is much slower than a trike. I also think if someone were to pull back completely on the stick in the event of an engine failure the gyro would just float down slowly (I could be wrong on this). I think Joe had told me “in the event of an engine out landing in the gyro, the person will be okay but the gyro may not be okay”

    • @966Mako
      @966Mako 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      FloridaFlying, yeah plenty of successful Gyro engine fail landings on YT, by experienced pilots.
      What I was really getting at though, is if an inexperienced back seater had to take over.
      But that's for taking the time to read through, forgot to mention, it is a nice video. 👍🏼👍🏼

    • @capdink
      @capdink 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should try an engine out landing in a gyro. You could ask any instructor and they would be happy to show you. I’m a fixed wing guy and was surprised how easy it is even in case you shut down the engine to just put her in a small space. Amazing machine. You would have fun since your already flying the trike.

    • @exiled_londoner
      @exiled_londoner 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They do, if they have a pre-rotation systen to spin up the lift rotor (and maybe a variable pitch system as well). but that complicates the mechanics and adds weight. This one needs forward speed to get the free-wheeling rotor spinning to provide the lift.

    • @TheGyroJoe
      @TheGyroJoe 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A very tiny percentage of gyro's have something called jump take off. Some were incorporated into production machines like the Air and Space 18A, some were done by do it yourselfers like Dick Degraw and Ernie Boyette, see gyrhino, and LFINO (pronounced ,Hell if I know) for examples. Most modern gyro's have pre-rotaters but the intent is to shorten the take off roll, not to lift it into the air. Systems needed to do a jump take off add complexity weight, expense, and increased maintenance and we already have helicopters to do the job vertical take off.

    FAA regulations for auto gyros?? Kinda curious as to what would prevent my husband from being able to fly? He had a motorcycle accident and ,,,, well this is the adrenaline junkie he is. Hmmm
    I think he needs ANOTHER brain injury lol. But hey, he's probably going to do it anyway.
    I told him he would be the only guy tailed by a Blackhawk helicopter. If he can build a home.... this is not outta reach.
    Oh well

    Lasted 1 minute, 23 seconds but couldn't take that silly slapping "music" any longer. Too distracted and annoying. Too bad. I'm a pilot and want a gyrocopter. Wanted to watch it but just too poorly produced to watch. Quit trying to be an auteur and just show your video ...
