It was Rick Wright who came up with the progression for Pink Floyd's 'Breathe'. Because, as he said himself; he was a "jazzer". Beautiful. Amazing content as always Eric. Cheers from UK.
George Harrison was one of the few pop-rock songwriters who regularly used diminished chords. And most of the people he played with were not so comfortable with them. He called them "my dirty little chords."
Catchin' up on my Haugenation. Learned a new grip for the diminished chord that includes the low E string from this vid. So cool. I know you're not a Deadhead, but I need to mention that I hear strains of "Help On the Way" when you're arpeggiating those diminished chords.
"Did you know you can play Em like this?" I picked that up from Peter Green, who used it quite a bit in things like "Green Manalishi" and "Oh Well". It's very freeing, since you realize that only 2 strings actually need to be fretted for Em, and the rest can stay open.
I make a generous home-pour of whiskey, I get my guitar and I settle down in front of an Eric Haugen Guitar lesson. This is what my Saturday nights have become - and I'm fine with that. (Drink responsibly kids!)
Climbing up the Dim inversions - Jonny Quest/Stop That Pigeon cover by Rev. Horton Heat on Saturday Morning Cartoons CD - Both parts are killer, but that Diminished run is in Stop That Pigeon section. You find it all over Psychobilly stuff.
That "Creedence" V7 to I has much better Voice Leading as well, so it even sounds better. I think people usually approach 7 Chords after they've mastered Bar Chords and that's why they have that association.
Looking forward to that nx lesson.when i learn new chords,I try n find as many different ways to play them as I can.and I noticed the Dom 7-flat 9.had the same voicing as a dim 7.confused the shit out of me lol.

I told you I was going to buy a Danelectro 12 string because of your recent video and I actually bought one of these Japanese Bigsby Teles a year ago because I loved yours so much (I actually sold my fancy custom shop Tele because I liked the Japanese Tele better!). I'm not nearly to the level where I understand all the theory stuff but I love playing the progressions to get my fingers moving around and your freaky pinkie muting adds to my confusion on where exactly your fingers are. You should talk about that pinkie thing sometime, I've never seen anyone regularly play like that.

i know it's not related to the main video, but as you read the Jeff Tweedy "How to Write One Song" what are your impressions of it? I finished it and his approach is so intuitive and organic, very different than those quantified hours methods "you need to this for 2 hours to be good" and such.
I LOVE both Tweedy's books so much! It's insane that a writer of his caliber is also such a real dude, feels like a guy you know just tellin' it like it is!
My 1st music teacher experience was like: Today class, we will begin our journey into music theory by covering the highly popular and extremely useful Locrian mode to play over diminished minor chords. ..

Loving the C minor and E minor shapes Eric. I like thumb over chords as years of manual work have made full bar chords painful if played too long .👍👍

I’m a bit confused about that D#°7 in Breathe: if it’s played x6454x, shouldn’t it be called D#m6 ? I can’t find the b5. Anyway, it sounds wonderful.
I'm sure someone in Floyd is playing the missing b5! Trust me, that chord is indeed a D#˚ ramp up and not a lonely D#m6 :-)
