Vague, imprecise language in laws allows wide latitude within law enforcement on purpose. Also, questions like, "Has anyone placed anything in any of your bags without your knowledge?" represent simple entrapment. If they do find anything "contraband" [however that's defined this week], they can then assert that it's yours, because you said no one else put anything in your bags. Those in power are well aware of how language can be used for control. Politics. tavi.

You gotta be kidding ,me! The example of the custom's officer actually happened to me!
And when I answered: "There's no way for me to know that now." The officer became annoyed stating: "It's a simple yes or no question, sir!"
-"Errmmm no it's not. You asked if someone could have put something in my luggage without me knowing. That was literally your question. How can I know something if it's done without my knowledge?"
"YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN SIR!"
-"Well I know what you're hinting at but that's not what you are saying, madam."
Her supervisor came in with the same arrogance: "What is the problem here?"
She explained how in her opinion I was uncooperative and he said: "Just answer the question, sir. We are also just doing our jobs."
"But I am answering the question she's just not satisfied with the answer. And she obtained this answer simply because of the way she asked the question, sir."
The supervisor agreed that the question was indeed ill formed and said: "What she means is, if you've seen someone, or accepted something from someone and put that in your suitcase."
    "No and No."
He then remained at her side for the remaining questions that went off without a hitch.
