    Nice video. Very clear and detailed. I appreciate the closeups. I recently purchased my first Amplifier (Ameritron AL-811) after being licensed since 1973. I learned how to properly tune from watching this video. Other videos on TH-cam aren't as detailed.

      Thank you for taking the time to watch and the comment! It is greatly appreciated. I am extremely pleased with this amp. I had originally thought I wouldn't like the tuning part, but actually I don't mind it. Kind of ads to it all.

    Great job on this video Greg. I'm kind of new at ham radio and picked up a used 811 last week. Unfortunately, the Ameritron instructions are a little fuzzy so I've spent the last few days researching and looking at 811 videos. This is the best one out there. Clear, concise and to the point. Thanks, John (KC1PRQ)

    Much better video than others I have watched but I could not understand what meters you were watching or checking for dip while adjusting the knobs. Total novice here, but if you could point at the meter while adjusting the knob explaining what you are doing that would be better. Also a close up of all the equipment stating the brand and model numbers would be helpful to know what else one would have to purchase besides the amp if all they have is a 100 watt radio.

    Thanks for making this video. I have wanted to buy am amplifier for some time now but I had no idea how to set it up with my I-com 7300. I found an Ameritron AL -811H for sale and was doing some research on and come across your video on TH-cam. Not only was it great information on the Ameritron but you showed how to set it up with a I-com 7300.
    Thanks,

    Hi there i do believe the max power you should put into this is 80 watts, could be 70, just 1 comment mine normally works ok, but i put it on this morning on 20mts and although it keyed up and the red light came on etc, the ptt relay clicked in, virtually no power was going out, about 1/2 hour later it worked ok, wonder if you have any comments on that, both the gauges seem to work, the HV was normal, but the plate and load had no effect on the gauges and i think about 10 watts was going out....i havent used it latley so not sure on that...from Fred g4vvq in Uk.

      @@WJ6FRadio That is very instructional for a guy like me. Now as I understand it, I was confusing the job of the amp and the antenna tuner. You tune the antenna with the tuner, but tune the amp to the frequency, not the antenna. I got it now. Thanks a lot.

    So, I have a question. If your amplifier is 800 watts and your tuner is rated at 600 will that be an issue, or will just have to make sure that you don't go over 600 watts when transmitting?

    • @WJ6FRadio
      @WJ6FRadio  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for taking the time to watch and the comment! It is greatly appreciated. Yes, you are correct in that I make sure I do not go over the rating for what ever equipment follows the amp. So long as I do that there shouldn't be any issues.

      @@321CatboxWA he showed you the chart and he told you to start with the plate and look for the dip. When he moved the plate knob the meter dipped down at one point that is where you stop. Then he did the other knob and watched for that dip. Then back to plate again to fine tune. He did it several times at different power outages on the radio.
