This is why I love One Piece, Oda really knows how to surprise people. Law just revealed that he is a D like Luffy.
Doflamingo is a complex character that many one piece youtubers like to dissect. His story is sympathetic but at the same time it doesn't excuse the atrocities he has done or the monster he has become. Sure his life has been hard but Corazon also shared the same hardship as him and ended up becoming one of the most kindest human beings in one piece. I think Oda is definitely trying to say a statement about how one can have a shitty life and upbringing with many hardships but in the end it is yourself that determines the person you become. Through your own will you can decide to be whatever you want to be without letting your past be the defining piece in your story.

exactly. doflamingo is not that complex at all, he's a classic psychopath, and the point is that he chose to be that. you can have hardship and still make positive choices, and he does not do that. whereas someone like law chose to be decent.

Making it impossible to no get attached to a character that you know from the start is going to die tragically is one of Oda's greatest magic.

I understand Doflamingo and his situation, but if we are realistic, even if his father had not stopped being a celestial dragon, Doflamingo would still have been an immoral person and most likely he would continue to commit all the crimes he commits now, only to be even more untouchable for being a Celestial Dragon.

I like the small parts they put into the flashback in the anime, like the transition screens with white colour spreading further and further as time goes by, symbolising Law's desease getting worse and worse.
The only thing I'd blame Doffy's dad (I think his name's Homing or smth?) is him literally admitting to the people around them that they were former Celestial Dragons which is stupid, but honestly I think the people would have found out one way or another anyways.

I know that these episodes give Dolflamingo a more sympathetic background. But it doesn't matter to me. The angry villagers show just how horrible the Celestial Dragons are. I'm mostly waiting for their destruction, which is what I'm hoping the ending of One Piece will be about.

yeah the celestial dragons are stupid and ignorant of the world, they are raised to believe they are superior people better than humans, that they aren't even humans they are better. Like when charlos kicked the injured man when they crossed his path, his aid told him a bunch of nonsense, "of course you are right, the world owes whatever to you" Charlos was so shaken to have someone cross his path or have zoro walk up to him like its some grand insult. Even the "humble" living, celestial dragons usually only associate with other nobles, but see the nobles as beneath them, which is twisted seeing what the nobles did to be closer to the celestial dragons and how the look down on the "trash" people of the gray terminal when the people they pay tribute to see them as trash.
Doffy's dad had good intentions but was ignorant to the reality and the pain celestial dragons inflicted on others. It's messed up but it shows that without the government's protection the dragon's would be dead no one would put up with their crap if the navy didn't send an admiral and who knows what else to slaughter the person responsible. Cobra and Vivi's family got out before hand, before the drama and chaos and chose not to become celestial dragons early on keeping them sane as well as protected.
It sucks because he had good intentions, but the pain and suffering caused by the celestials is too great to be forgiven or overlook someone who's an innocent. He left the holyland to live a "normal" life and be with humans and accept a form of reality but couldn't escape what the celestial dragons had done to the world. He still had that celestial dragon mentality expecting the world to just open their arms and invite him in, he was better than the other dragons given he had some sense but that holy mentality and ignorance killed him

Nah you're right. Doffy's dad was insanely naive. He was a good person and he had a good heart but he made a stupid choice letting everyone know he was a Celestial Dragon.
Also about Doflamingo, I can definitely sympathize and empathize with him but at the same time after a certain point in your life, you just have to move on no matter how hard it is. At this point in time, he's just a murderer. Even if it's not his fault that he became that way, he's still a bad person for killing so many innocent people. It's a horrible cycle of hate.

In the case of SOME kinds of glasses that does happen though... to put it simply it is caused because the glass when it was created had some "stress" in it that is released to suddenly and the material does not withstand it and breaks...
The Whole story reminds me of The Departed. With Corozan and Vigeo both undercover without each other knowing. It’s straight out of the movie. With Law killing Vigeo, that’s like Mark Walburg

Hiriluk would jump at the idea of finding a previously unknown cure, and Doctorine I think would have enough common sense to figure out it's not contagious.

Doflamingo's past is sad on paper, but his attitude towards normal people is fucked up, and his past no way excuses everything he did up to the present. If you kill someone because you have a sad past, you still killed that person.
P.S.: I was almost going to feel bad for Doflamingo's father, but the fact that he didn't seem to realize the gravity of the atrocities of the Celestial Dragons, that he could just live with other people as if the atrocities are nothing, something that people would just forget just because you apologized or want to live with them, made me feel only 50% bad for him.

being a Celestial Dragon doesn't mean they're ALL bad. You can't blame Doffy's father for buying slaves, this is how they were brought up and it's a cyclical thing that CDs buy slaves; that was their life. The same idea when we go to school, we can always choose not to go to school but we society (CD) teaches us in a construct that allows us live inside the grand construct to where we can't think outside any form or box. It's a cycle, CDs buy slaves because that's how they were raised inside their god construct; it's wrong to us, but it's life for them. Therefore, you can't blame Doffy's father for buying slaves; he did choose to break out of that construct and live a life that we see as normal. However, he knew nothing about living this life and the hostility normal humans have towards them; so as any infant growing up, they learn through experience and the Doflamingo family learned the hard way.
