Frank Beard is so underrated as a drummer. Yeah, I know he looks a little bored in his facial expressions, but just watch his hands! He moves with such precision and power, it’s the mark of someone who’s mastered his craft!
@@lukecold8562 They slowed their songs down after B B King asked Billy , Why you working so hard? Look at old videos of ZZ TOP in the 70s and 80s all ENERGY . Thats the price you pay when you get old !
What power? He drums are triggered doesn't have to be a hard hitter. He's lucky to be alive. In the early days he was a heroin addict. God Bless Texas & ZZ Top
ZZ top rules, clever band, brilliant music, great style, and yes I'm only in my 20's but I know all their songs... They rule, Billy is an awesome and insanely inspiring guitarist
What can you say about this thumpin' Rocker. I could write a 50,000-word essay about this song. The dual vocals are criminally bloody awesome. The relentless throbbing Bass drives you and the song all the way to fade out. Frank Beard is one of the finest Blues Drummers in the known Universe, his snappy fill rolls are sublime. The Guitar is dirty and grungy, with Billy's Lead breaks giving light n shade to the music. That is what I call a real Rock song. This song has soul and groove.
Man, do I miss Dusty. We love you, hombre! RIP. It's great to have seen ZZ Top since I discovered their music in the 70s, and they stuck with the same lineup the whole time. Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill, and Frank Beard. That's it! The greatest Blues Rock band to ever walk this planet!!
My old Gibson melody maker never sounded that good! Awesome! Ever notice Frank Beard always looks like he is either sleepwalking at the drums or his back hurts? LOL The Dude never ever smiles!
Most people think Eddie Van Halen invented the "tapping" technique, but he got it from Brian May, who got it from some guy in a Texas bar, who got it from BILLY GIBBONS (2:28)
I can't be 100% sure from the video, but it looks like a Gibson Melody Maker. They were inexpensive student models back when Billy Gibbons was 13 years old, but originals in good shape are worth a bit of money today.
There’s an old saying in pool about Cues “If you can’t play with any of them,You can’t play with any of them” Billy plays Gibson,Fender,Gretsch anything sounds better in his hands. Besides he is Jimi’s favorite guitar player. He’s asked and He answered right here on YT.
4 years ago I lived in South Portland, Maine. My back yard was directly across the harbor from the Maine State Pier in Portland. I was sitting in my back yard one summer night and suddenly I heard "Got Me Under Pressure" playing across the harbor at the pier. Portland has a very prolific local cover band and tribute band scene, and I was thinking "Holy crap that band sounds exactly like ZZ Top. Must be a tribute band." Turns out it was actually ZZ Top playing and I didn't know until the next day. I just assumed it was a tribute band because Portland is loaded with them. LOL Bummer! 🤣
Billy gibbons is reversing and turning the beat around repeatedly on this song...it also sounds as if there might be another guitar in there somewhere such as a backing track that has been pulled back in the mix...thought maybe I heard guitar when his hands were not moving...might be wrong about that last one. Great story about the guitar though...if I'm not mistaken he sold that les paul junior to buy a sunburst strat and play surf music. Too bad about the hill...with the replacement...the notes are right, but the vibe is bent and the background vocals are screwed or non existent but the money is still rolling in i'm assuming and the-wood on sale so its probably a smokin deal for the gibbon.
Until now , I have never seen anything but double cutaway Gibson Melody Makers. That narrow headstock always gives it away ; only The Rev could make that one teeny single coil pickup scorch that way ! Single cutaway Gibson Melody Maker , formerly owned by Billy Gibbons...Can you say Ebay ?
@@DaveKentLiveno. Small headstock and you can see on the pick guard where it says melody maker. Also, lp jr. would be p90. You can clearly see it is a melody maker single coil pickup.
Thanks for the upload but I surely wish the sound quality wasn't so horrible. This song has tremendous drive and power and this recording literally has been castrated by the utter lack of anything but distortion below 500 Hz. Bass? Drums? OOmph in Billy's guitar? Gone! It's amazing they sound even passably good under such circumstances... but then they are ZZ Top.
I have to agree with you! But then, i'm happy i got what i got. over 100K views. The camera has been updated but still, they just don't put decent microphones in the Canon Powershot. iPhone microphone is 1,000 times better but no optical zoom and really not enough storage....
+Ken Rotberg Understood. However it is digital which means that with even a free audio editor like Audacity you can use compression and EQ to restore balance, remove noise, etc. The information is there. It's just weak. So digital effects can make a huge difference... and, it's really fun.
Nice video. If you wanna check out a camera with a good optical zoom as well as microphone, check out Panasonic Lumix. It has a buffer/filter and when it's too loud it cuts back and does not distort. I then take my .mp4 files and edit the audio with an EQ and it comes out great. I don't have any TH-cam videos to show because I've been warned twice by TH-cam about copyright crap and don't even bother any more. I just post to my FB page. But, seriously, check out the Panasonic Lumix. Rock on!
Ken Rotberg 30x? Sweet! Mine is 16x and that's plenty for me. Any more than that and it gets jittery, especially when i have a few beers at the show! LOL
@@BaronVonRockenstein Definitely triggered though I never understood that. You spend money for a good drum set and then don't even get to hear how it sounds...
It seems they now have a habit of slowing things down too much: maybe they're trying to enhance their reputation for nonchalant cool, or maybe it's age.
I just looked at that GORGEOUS pAisTe gong. Carl palmer, john Bonham, Keith moon, roger Taylor, alex van Halen, nicko mcbrain, etc Did not play a gong of THAT diameter. WoW.
Rest In Peace Dusty Hill

Playing it slow as hell though.
I don't think he looks bored. He just looks like he's more focused on the beat. He's in his own world, the zone.
It's like a second nature..They have probably played that song 9 million times in Their career They can almost play it in their sleep!

best drummer of all time !!!!!!
Frank Beard is playing his first drum set too, but he had to borrow it back from Slayer.
Hahahahaha i spit coffee everywhere when I read that! Holy crap

I'm from Odessa I watch ZZ Top three or four times in Odessa. Road trips to Lubbock, Dallas Texas jams in 80 something😎

it would be cooL to stumbLe upon a guitar like that again (melody maker) A garage sale somewhere is the answer.
My first guitar was a '63 Melody Maker....looks like Billy has a '59 or '60
Great video...
Just goes to show you that it's the musician that makes the instrument, not the other way around.
Such a unique and amazing band. Rip Dusty.
Perfect example of beautiful simplicity

I thought it came from Rocky Athas. Or Steve Hackett?
My uncle recorded fits tapping back in 1957.
Cool story. Great tune!
Thanks!
