5 years later, if this is the best that Matthews and company have, the Leaves are far fricking away from winning a cup. The top 4 Matthews, Nylander, Marner, and Tavares have NO playoff heart. To have any real success in the playoffs the Leaves are going to have to part with at least 2 of those players. Year after year they have proved that they have no playoff heart. Regular season, absolutely. Regular season when everything is easy, and the refs call everything. No heart when the going gets tough.

The Leafs at center are like what the Caps could’ve had as their top six if McPhoe didn’t trade Forsberg. They wouldn’t have needed to draft Vrana (since they already have their young star right wing), and could’ve used that pick (13th) to draft Dylan Larkin, making a top six of Ovi-Backstrom, Forsberg-Kuznetsov, and potentially, Burakovsky-Larkin. 1. I wouldn’t be so confident that the leafs don’t come back in this series. Sure they are down 2-0, but have absolutely showed that they could have won each of those last two. Further, they did incredibly well on the road in Tampa. Don’t count them out.
2. I want the leafs to win, but will not be overly upset if they lose. I’m used to their losing, but I also am satisfied with their progress this season. 19 years is a long time, so I’m actually happy with their season even if they don’t make it all the way.
Winning the cup is a lengthy process and this season has been a stepping stone in that. You saying to “be happy with that” is entirely reflective of my mindset.

@@prodigioso6779 Your comment isn't 4 years old to me, it's a couple hours old.That's how comments work on the internet. They lost both games at home, not on the road. They got manhandled, that's why there is anger towards the Bennett and Tkachuk right now. Their top 4, including Tavares, Marner, Matthews, and Nylander have been invisible so far in this round. Not one of them has stepped up. Whether you want to hear it or not, all 4 of those players are soft. Not a single one is going to put the Leafs on their back and carry them. They never have in the playoffs. Great regular season players sure, but not playoff performers. The Leafs are not going to go far in the playoffs with them. That is why this was the first 2nd round in almost 20 years. It didn't happen 5, 4 or even 3 years ago with those same players. If the same lack of success continues next year do not be surprised if Matthews walks. If he does, the Leafs are in huge trouble. That is when the downhill slide will begin. They are going to be out of this years playoffs in 3 games, 4 if they are lucky. Be a fan all you like, but open your eyes and accept that that roster doesn't have what it takes to go far in the playoffs. They need to make big changes, not tinker around the edges.

The Leafs at center are like what the Caps could’ve had as their top six if McPhoe didn’t trade Forsberg. They wouldn’t have needed to draft Vrana (since they already have their young star right wing), and could’ve used that pick (13th) to draft Dylan Larkin, making a top six of Ovi-Backstrom, Forsberg-Kuznetsov, and potentially, Burakovsky-Larkin. That’s unstoppable. I know this is 2 years late, but I was just having a conversation about this and it reminded of the Leafs’ center depth, and this video
