No kidding. If I didn’t give up gambling, I would have bet the house on the over 6.5 wins Vegas had for them. The roster got better, and I was confident Darnold could produce similar to Kirk with these weapons and KoC, but he’s been better!

Yeah but just like the Steelers, the defense was always gonna be good enough to carry them to some wins. Even with terrible qb play last season Jefferson put up great numbers.

Lifelong Vikings fan of 42 years. This is the most fun I've had following the team I can recall. Minnesota hopes McCarthy will eventually play at the level Darnold is now. McCarthy is only 21, Jefferson & Darrisaw have been extended long-term. The Vikings will have 76 million to spend in free agency next offseason. After eating all of the dead cap hits this season. Kwesi needs to sign Sam to a 2-3 year deal. This could legitimately be the Vikings Superbowl window over the next 3-4 years. Appreciate the insights!👊🏼 SKOL!!!
Kwesi needs to wish Sam all the best and spend that 76 million building an absolute wagon for JJ. That's been the plan since day 1, don't go back on it now.
I like the idea of tag and trade. Reap the rewards of the elite development to build the team. Danny Dimes gets coached up behind J.J. for a pittance. Draft picks, $76m for FA, with only a few needs? Yeah, that’s a championship window for sure.
@@BM-si2ei The plan from day 1 was to have JJ sit for a season and work through the programme that KOC developed for him. That didn't happen. Following that plan, would be bringing Sam back and JJ resuming where he left off. The advantage this time around is that Sam should be worth multiple top 50 draft picks that should help build a better wagon for JJ with younger players, at the specific positions they want, cheaper and for longer than a one off FA spend. Also if you check out the FAs, even before teams re-sign their own players, the best CB there might be Nate Hobbs, and best DT might be Javon Kinlaw - and multiple teams might be in the market for them - so there is no guarantee of filling the spots and the players available might not be upgrades. Extending Sam gives Kwesi many more and much better options than letting him walk for nothing. Barring Darnold winning the SB or KOC staking his career on him, I don't see the Vikings signing him long term. KOC handpicked McCarthy AFTER they signed Darnold and a large QB contract that constrains the cap is a large reason Cousins was not retained. Cousins had an amazing record (North champs, record Comeback wins in a season) and great stats with KOC, even Mullins was putting close to 400 yards a game. A 40-50 million QB contract is what Darnold will command and I just don't see Kwesi and KOC taking that plunge with their drafted QB on the team and the chance to bolster the rest of the team further with the cap savings.
Yes, but a lot of your assumptions are factually incorrect. Consider that Sam was drafted at #3 and your assumption is that a guy drafted at #10 will be better. Darnold may not need a large QB contract, and it won't necessarily constrain the cap, and definitely not like Cousins because Kwesi doesn't design his contracts like Spielman. The last 5 SBs have been won by Stafford, Brady and Mahomes - all on full QB contracts. If your goal is to win SBs then you need the best QB possible, QBs on rookie contracts don't win very often. The maximum contract that Sam will command is $41m because that is the franchise tag amount (estimated) that Kwesi can exercise without negotiation. Any negotiated deal will likely be lower and longer, with a much lower cap hit. Even at $41m Kwesi will still likely have about $10m more cap space in FA than he had last year when he signed Greenard, AVG, Cashman, Sam, Jones and 10 others - so it shouldn't really stop him doing anything. If Kwesi does extend Sam, if and when they transition to JJ, Kwesi can trade Sam to an AFC team and will likely get multiple top 50 draft picks that will likely bolster the rest of the team a lot more than a one off cap spend of $20m. If Sam is traded the acquiring team usually picks up most of the amount owing on his contract so the Vikes would get all that cap space back. Your argument is that you would rather have $20m cap space to spend, having to start a rookie QB week 1 that has never played and can't walk properly right now, INSTEAD OF having two or three extra 1st and 2nd round draft picks, and a top 10 QB to start the season, and not having to start the rookie QB until he is ready. And if JJ is not all that - you probably lose Kwesi and KOC as well...
