      1. Americans hate regulation, so they fired their ethics teams en masse once they got too close to real AI for them to feel comfortable while insisting there will never be true AI. (See: Google)
      2. They make money DEVELOPING AI. It's a flooded market and they're competing against open source. They make money by not having it.
China may have the most brilliant scientists in the world or it may not. But it also has a series of strict, brutal measures to weed out grifters, schemers, and snake oil salesmen.
The US AI market is a scam trying to figure out how not to get caught creating an ethical dilemma through various means of obfuscation and IP protections. This is just proof of it.

The Chinese in China are smarter /more hardworking than the Chinese in US lol. The US had written off China and thought they were few years ahead.. The Chinese can easily improve at a faster, cheaper , less advanced chips - it’s basically saying they are survivors and can overcome whatever has been thrown at them.
The next 5 yrs will see great advances from China in EVs, space , radars, ships , drone varieties, batteries, 6G , commercial airplanes , high speed trains , robotics , robodogs , hypersonic, etc etc etc.
I’m not so sure US can maintain its lead , esp in applications in a large scale.

If you don’t have to put in all of the infrastructure or pay for the talent to develop the models, you can just steal them afterwards, it’s going to be significantly cheaper and require a lot less hardware and a lot less resources than actually developing the work in the first place. Deep seek isn’t really developing any new capabilities. It’s just building upon models that it has sourced elsewhere.

The market is getting this totally wrong,. Except for companies that are trying to make money selling expensive, proprietary, llms, cheaper faster and more effective AI is good for the market. Cost and energy consumption were going to be major barriers to scale. Dropping the cost and enabling access will drive more applications, which will require plenty of chips. Lots of computing gear. Lots of demand for the hyperscalers. Who can run these open models on their infrastructure. Even Nvidia may not be a loser. Deepsea didn't need their most current chips. However, if Nvidia comes out with more efficient and more powerful chips that can do the same work as deepseek on half the amount of infrastructure with lower energy consumption, then it will still drive demand for Nvidia cores. Markets missing this big time

Calm down everyone. This is a buying opportunity because it is indeed bad news for NVDA, AVGO, etc., but is excellent news for all the users of AI, including mag seven minus NVDA. Because every company, irrespective of big cap, med cap or small cap, can reduce capex spend on chips and innovate more for less (if the claims of deepseek are true). So this is very good news, but if true, would imply significant rotation, which might imply good opportunity to buy and/or rotate).
