    I think it’s so vital people know the difference between show line and working line in dog breeds. It’s a huge reason so many of the owners get frustrated or upset and end up not liking the dog they get. End up rehoming it or sending it to the shelter.

      @@bbycherub2420 Lol dosn't matter if they are bred for hunting, bullterriers need alot of training oveall. People having lazy bull terrier dogs on youtube isn't the norm.

      @@ImDembe I know, but I didn't know his breeds before DNA testing him and contacting the person who bred and sold him. I assumed he was a Labrador Pit mix cause I didn't know Bull Terriers were a breed (I don't know how I didn't realize, his nose is huge and he has small eyes). I've had him for years now and bought another recently from a breeder so I know how unique they are. Bike jorring and daily engagement and obedience training keeps them calm :)

    I've had both show line and working labs. Both are amazing, but my working line (she came from a long line of hunting dogs) was very high energy. How I could best explain her was "exploding with happy" She wouldn't intentionally hurt anyone, but she would regularly buckle your knees from behind, clear coffe tables with her tail, spin in circles when she got excites and knock over a kid etc. My show line lab is very calm and gentle. She doesn't get wound up like that

      Have to agree with working line. Both of mine are great grandson and great great grandson of Pocklea Remus, 3 time International Gundog Labrador championship winner (1st place once, 2nd and 3rd a few other times. my parents decision to get them from that line not me lol) and they're absolutely mental. The older is now 5 years old and he's calmed down quite nicely but the youngest is still only 2 years old and he has been much more of a handful and still is even after both have been snipped.
      If you really want gun line labradors you need to be prepared for 3 different 1hour long walks a day with plenty exercise or they will get into anything, especially as puppies and in adolescence

    • @JSAFIXIT
      @JSAFIXIT ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @Adam Smith Our working line one as a puppy was an absolute hellion lol. It took her about 4 years to chill out too. Even then, if you said "outside" "ball" "ride" or anything she enjoys, it was straight back to spinning black cyclone.

    We have a Bernese and it's just baffling to me how calm and gentle he is. He faces aggression from small dogs wherever he goes because of his size, but he's so unreactive to it. He's the most lovely natured dog in the world.

    • @raquel_rocha
      @raquel_rocha ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Happy to read this - we have a Cavalier and if we decide to get a dog of another breed, it would be a Bernese. There are gentle giants and have needs very similar to Cavaliers (aka are also very needy and very attached to their owners).

    • @Hadraniel94

      I have a Bernedoodle, and he is so gentle as well. My friend has a pure bred Berner, he is gentle too, just sometimes doesn’t know his size. Luckily the Berner doesn’t live with kids because he might squish them to cuddle. Berners remind me of the “nanny dog” breed.

When they walk past most of them want to stop to say hi and I always pet them (after asking the owners of course) and they're the sweetest. ..well actually it depends. When my family first go our newfie we didn't see the red flags, it was our first time buying from a breeder and she was awful. Very stand offish, agressive, dominate and snappy. She is the main reason why I want to become a breeder, so I can breed good tempered and quality dogs for families. She's also why I believe in ANY dog can be agressive, I've had bad experiences with shelter dogs too..

    I'm fairly certain that my parents got lucky, but their Akita was the most chill dog I've ever known. He was great with kids and let them pull on him if they needed assistance standing up. My sister and my dad would play with him at the same level of intensity and while he would bite and tear up my dad's hands, he never bit my sister. Just got his mouth around her arm/hand. The only time he snapped at a kid was when a boy was hitting him repeatedly. He gave several vocal warnings to stop, my dad and his dad told him to stop, then he snapped. But didn't bite.

    I know they're a cliche for family dogs but our black lad truly was the best, just a wonderful temperament and a really good judge of how to adjust his energy levels to different people. Loved a high energy game of chase and fetch with the teenagers, but then really receptive to young children and elderly. They have this reputation for a reason. I miss mine every day.

One time our neigbhours told us someone was trying to break in while we were away. He said I have never seen anyone jump a 2m fence faster than that guy. Love my 5 month old Golden Retriever. Definitely bubbly & excitable as said, but she's now starting to go with the flow of the house. If everyone is just hanging out, she'll get the clue that it's time to relax. Yes, she's still a puppy so she's still learning. But the "basics" were done very very quick. We got her at 8 weeks, immediately did crate training from Night #1 (get a SnugglePuppy!). She still "mouths" a bit, but has gotten a lot better week by week. We just make sure to get her attention to one of her chewys and she's happy. She's definitely teething which I know is a huge part of it, which all dogs go through. She's a love bugggg! I've always wanted a Golden Retriever but I waited until my kids were young teens so we could all enjoy her and all be on the same page as far as training. She is eager to please all of us & really goes with the flow of the house. There is time for play, and time for hanging out. She's really starting to catch onto that. I highly recommend a Golden Retriever even with younger kids. She's now the baby in my house (and a little spoiled, but in a healthy way for all)

      And a little bit more barky for my taste but we're working on it. She doesn't bark in bad circumstances either just when playing or when there someone at the door

      I know a Golden that flunked out of guide dog school for temperament reasons. Not for being too energetic or behavioural issues, but because he is the dopiest dog you'll ever meet XD. He doesn't play fetch, he grabs whatever toy he likes, and keeps it in his mouth, and potters around the house with it, showing it off to anyone who will give him attention.
      This is in stark contrast to his brother who is a crazy Fox Lab that the couple who adopted the Golden raised as a puppy. They now take the Golden to hospices, particularly children's hospices, as a therapy dog since he's more than docile enough to be around those children :)

    I had an old lab when I was real young. When I was in my floaty I’d hold on to his tail and he’d pull me around the pool. When I’d let go he’d swim back to me so I could grab on again. My brother also pretended to drown and he swam under the water and tried biting his hair and arms to pull him up. Great dog!! We bread goldens when I was growing up too. Our first golden was supposed to be my dads dog but she chose me. I’d dress her up in my clothes and she’d soft bite my arm and walk around kinda like we were holding hands. She also never needed a leash she’d always stay next to me and if me or my mom walked her she’d growl under her breath if she saw a man. They really are great dogs but they can be a bit excitable and goofy, and they pretty much stay puppies most of their lives.

    My 9-year-old golden retriever is such a gentle soul. I honestly don't know how could I be so lucky with her. She wouldn't hurt a soul. The only time I saw her growling was at the dog park, where she was the oldest female dog, with many younger and older puppies on the playing field. She saw an 8-month-old German shepherd playing roughly with a 4 month-old Samoyed. My dog jumped between them and growling barely audibly at the bigger one. Let me just say, for that German shepherd, the lesson was definitely learnt that day.

    Teach children how to approach a dog and gently pet it. Many toddlers grab the jowls and whiskers which could spell trouble…OTH, I never met a mean Cavalier King Charles….so adorable! Pugs are sweet too.

    I had a black lab and a black lab Australian shepherd mix as a kid/teenager and man they both were the best dogs, gentle and loving and the Aussie mix was protective of me so much ugh I miss them both so much! I have 2 long haired chihuahuas now and yes I love them a lot but they are stubborn and loud especially one of the in particular, he’s great and has his own unique personality but man he can be frustrating sometimes and it’s a huge change from growing up with big dogs.

    I had a boxer growing up and I must say, it is crazy to see how this brute force high energy breed can tone down their behaviour with the young and the elderly, also with women. I wouldn't say he was gentle, since he was a clumsy goofball, but he certainly never hurt anyone, he knew how to restrain in front of weaker people

    One problem with the Cavalier King Charles, they are known to have heart issues, like a hole in the heart. My friend had one the dog just passed away recently. The dog was only about 7 or 8 years old. He was fine the day before and the next day he was gone. My friend is miserable without him.

    I had 2 Great Pyrenees, a working breed, and they were the calmest, most gentle dogs I ever had. They loved children and most adults as well. I knew if they didn't seem to care fir a particular person there was a reason. They even loved my cats and there was NEVER a problem with either of them. They were truly gentle giants. One caveat - they blow their coats twice a year and that is a lot of dog hair. That's the worst thing I can think to say about them.

    As someone who has 2 dogs from Pocklea Remus' line (3 time IGL winner, 1st once and 2nd and 3rd a few other times) it is so very vital that people understand the difference between show line and working line. I have had very active border collies before and they havent come close to how mental these 2 labs can be.
    If you're getting a pedigree gundog lab from a successful line be prepared for multiple hour long walks every day or risk having all your earthly possessions chewed up lol. At least for the first 4 years. And thats even if you have them snipped lol

    Finally, someone who points out that working lines are not for the casual life. I see too many stressed out moms with their strollers and a work retriever/rhodesian/german sheps/aussie/malinois etc.. they are understimulated and nervous most of the time.

    My pit/boxer mut Akilla is a wonderful dog to my child. Insanely protective of 5yr old Lynxx but gentle enough to let Lynxx use Akilla for a pillow. Only issues we have is when Akilla gets hyper playing. Because Akilla can quite literally accidentally run a grown person down. But Akilla obeys Lynxx commands. Akilla is just about to turn 2. But my most amazing inelegant, gentle, loyal and just amazing animal was a mutt. Bull mastiff, red lab, mix. He was only 1and 100lbs when he got killed. Such an amazing and beautiful creature. 😍 he looked like a Rottweiler but white markings instead of brown. But as mean as he looked he was the opposite. But yet loyal to the point that no leash was reqired, anywhere. The dog would ask for permission to leave my side. Just an amazing animal. I still miss him. See I found Shadow as a mostly dead puppy. Feral, missing most it's fur, back legs almost didn't work, worms so bad his poop literally crawled away. Big enough worms to use for bait. Took almost 6 months to get him completely healthy.

    Rottweillers. My own, and others I have met. Those brought up to be family dogs, not by sick people who want to train them to fight, are so gentle. Kittens, puppies, children - amazingly smart and understanding. I miss my boy so much...but at the same time, I have also had a great experience with all the non-breeds, genetically strong, street dogs that have been around for a couple hundred years, learning to avoid cruelty and happily greet all their known faces, because in India rescuers/activists work not only with alot of rescue and adoption, but also onsite treatment, tnr, and feeding
