    Your camp is the "Hilton" for outdoorsmen. I used to think I was over the top at camping, not anymore. You, sir, are the king of camps! I just love your style, new subscriber here.

    I also like to put a fly over any tent. A heavy duty tarp is what I usually use, on its own poles about six inches higher than the top of the tent. I don't camp in winter, and don't have a fire in my tent. I like the fly because it offers an air space for circulation between the tent and fly, effectively you are setting your tent up in the shade. And I like shade, even if I have to bring mine with me. I"ve used screw in anchors that they sell at pet stores to anchor it, but I like your tent pegs better. I've had several cabin tents, but never a great one, always something I got at WalMart. Still, with a good fly, sometimes as much as three times the size of the tent, keeping rain and sun off the tent helped keep us comfortable.
    Now-a-days, our camping is done in a travel trailer, which the wife and I can set up in thirty minutes, and hook up ready to go in twenty. We seldom stop over two nights anywhere and the purpose of our travels is to see people and places. But I'm kind of putting together some things in case we need to go to the woods, and your video gave me some ideas. Thanks.

    We've stayed weeks in Colorado to places only a mule could take us... in bad tents, blizzard conditions the whole nine yards. I'm like you I have paid my dues you have to I'm sure. My camp sites have evolved though the years also. LOVE YOUR STYLE !! Say strong my friend.

      Larry, It's alway a fun challenge to develop and hone our camps! It's no fun when weather conditions turn brutal and you cannot be warm and comfortable. I know we have both been there. It can be more than comfort. It can be a matter of survival. Thank you for your kind comments and thanks for watching!

    glad to see the video content out at the hunting camp. please throw a bunch of content together on this camp set up, and all the ideas involved. I remember watching your quick set up video a long time ago...thinking how many great ideas you had put into your camp system!! Look forward to seeing all the details in upcoming vids, along with hopefully a season of cooks out there at the deer camp.

    I've got a 16x20 I bought from salem tent and awning along with the same woodstove. I live 7 miles from them so it's easy for me to stop in there when I need something.

    • @PungoPrairie
      @PungoPrairie  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Rob, That's a BIG tent. The first one I ever had made was 16X20 with 5' walls and 10' 6" at the ridge. I drew the plans and had it built by a tent manufacturer close to where I live in Virginia. They built tents for the military both here and abroad. The canvas alone weighed close to 200 pounds! I built the frame out of 1 1/2 inch alluminized steel muffler pipe. That tent was a Beast! I sold it after a couple of seasons hunting out west and had a smaller version, 13' X 16' custom made by the same manufacturer. After several seasons I just wanted something lighter & easier to handle. That is when I found Salem. As I am typing this reply to you, I am sitting in the same tent from this video by the stove in my mountain camp. It's been pouring down rain all morning and forecast to continue well into the night. I finally had to retire the stove like ours last year because it had just rusted through too bad to be safe anymore. I ordered a Four Dog Stove from this company in Minnesota.If you ever get to the point you need to replace your stove? You may want to consider Four Dog. I am including a link to a video I did last year featuring my new stove. I did add a rain fly to this tent last year. They are well worth the investment. 26 years now with this tent! I use this one more these days than my 10'X12'x5' tent. I would love to see pictures of your set up! Thanks for stopping by! here is the link. th-cam.com/video/AiZ81anoe4A/w-d-xo.html Stove feature starts about 18:25

    Mr. Dixon, did you ever use the Camp Chef out west in higher elevations while elk hunting, say 9000ft? I'm looking into upgrading my stove and have seen some reviews saying that the camp chef oven doesn't do well up high in the mountains. Keep up the camp videos good sir.

    Excellent Camp! I haven’t used my canvas tent in a couple years. Out of curiosity what is the shortest duration that you’ll consider setting your camp up for? I seem to think it’s too much for a 3 or 4 day camp... what’s your thoughts?

    • @PungoPrairie
      @PungoPrairie  5 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @mjremy2605

    I like everything about your channel, except... the hunting. Why do you have to kill those beautiful animals? Life is so hard for them as it is with habitat loss, forest fires, parasites, heat, cold, other predators, shortage of food, disease, illness, and then here you come with a bullet to the head. Big game hunting. Another name for mass murder. Imagine yourself living in the wild, adapted beautifully to your environment, enjoying your life in your prime, then BAM! Someone kills you for sport. So horrible. Humans are the worst predators and species of all.
    With regard to the tent staking, you are quite right. I camped years ago with my kids at Jalama Beach, CA. The winds picked up that evening to gale speeds of 50-60 mph. The tent just flattened out. We had to sleep in the van, all 4 of us plus large dog. It is amazing your tent holds up to such high winds. Quite an experience to weather high winds.
    Love your setup, looks very homey. The Camp Chef Blind Ranger II double propane stove has 17,000 BTU per burner whereas most similar stoves have 5000 BTU if that. However, the Camp Chef Stove Oven combo (your model) burners are set to 7,500 BTU which is very low by comparison to the Blind Ranger. It has always irked me that the oven combo is so low. Wonder why? If you want a strong stove, get the Blind Ranger model without the oven. Less bulky too. The suitcase Butane stoves are very high BTU as well, and very compact. As nice as this combo stove looks, you don't really need an oven. Who makes a whole turkey in camp? Any stove top foldable oven would work as well.
    I looked at other Chuck boxes after seeing both of yours. Nothing on this planet compares to your build. It is hands down the best Chuck box I have seen. So versatile and compact, really a work of art. You should seriously consider making it commercially for sale. Thanks for the tour! Democrat from California (against hunting).

      @PungoPrairie  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi William, Actually you are right. There are a lot of river jacks that will explode in a fire pit or in a stove. I cover this in a video I made this past Fall "Tali Girl Goes To The Mountains". However this gravel and sand from the creek bank is not quite the same. At least not in this particular geographic region. I have been lining the bottom of my stove this way, with this gravel for decades and have never had an issue with any of it exploding. Thank you for reaching out, and Thanks for watching!
