  • For all you bareknuckle fighting, boxing training, self-defence, Savate and bartitsu fans out there at. ‎@DanOldSkoolConditioningMan . It's time for us to take another step back in time 126 years, for our next step along our victorian boxing, self-defense, and fighting fitness journey. As we delve deeper, not just into late victorian boxing but also looking more into edwardian bareknuckle fighting techniques of Edward William Barton-Wrights New Art of Self Defence that was Bartitsu. The groundbreaking selfdefence fighting system, so far ahead of its time and although short-lived, 1898 to 1902 Bartitsu would go on to inspire other individuals to create more well-known and longer lasting self defence and combative fighting systems. All this said Edward William Barton-Wrights Bartitsu and it eclectic mix of Jujitsu, boxing and the French Kickboxing and stickfighting martial arts of Savate and La Canne, was the first true mixed martial art of the modern age.
    In this episode, we take our exploration of the lost art of victorian pugilism, bareknuckle boxing a stage further. Having already covered the basic punching combinations and footwork of victorian and early edwardian boxing bareknuckle, we take our first look at blocking and counter punching.
    This video is a simple how to do drill on first learning how to block our opponants' straight left lead punch to the face. We then look at how to block our opponants' straight right punch to the face off his rear hand. Once we have gone through this boxing technique drill, we then up the anti, and look at increasing the difficulty of the boxing skill required for the next two boxing training drills. block and counter punch our opponants lead left and then. Block and counter punch against our opponants' straight right boxing punch to the face.
    This bareknuckle boxing video is done as a partner drill, just as it would have been practised at the Bartitsu School of Arms and Physical Culture. Although boxing bouts had by 1892 been sanctioned mandatory gloved boxing bouts but the bareknuckle boxing era still dominated the boxing guards and boxing style as it had only just emerged from the bareknuckle era of boxing.
    Also, bareknuckle boxing training and bareknuckle fighting outside of the rules of either the London Prize Ring Rules or Marquis of Queensbury rules was very important for the self defence study and practice of bartitsu as it was the way in which the edwardian gentleman would have to fight off the muggers, house breakers and street roughs. Of any major city.

    This is actual blocking not like boxing blocking.

      Yes very different than how modern boxing uses blocks and parry, but this is how it was done in the late victorian era. Boxing then and now are two almost completely different sports. Hope you enjoyed the video.

      Yes, very much so, rules are completely different, from today's Boxing fights could fought under London Prize Ring Rules or Queensbury rules. And these varied hugely in London Prize Ring rule a round was over when either man was sent to ground by either punch or by being thrown and given 30 seconds to recover.

    What do you think about wing chun similar to old boxing?

    • @DanOldSkoolConditioningMan
      @DanOldSkoolConditioningMan  12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      It's a good question as you can see similarities between a lot of bareknuckle punching styles, not that they had influence from each other, but really, there is only so many ways you can punch someone in the face.

      Thx for the answer. It makes sense since the human body mechanics are the same so they might have the same technique.

      @@hkunsam2410 I have done some Wing Chun back in the 90s. Everytime Pat and i do some London Prize Ring Rules boxing or Savate, its surprising how many times we both end up Park or Larp Soa each other.
