    I am a nonprofit founder who now works full time as the Executive Director for the nonprofit I started many years ago. Starting a nonprofit can be challenging, and your Board of Directors leadership can make or break your progress towards achieving your mission. I'm asked regularly: "Where can I find great board of directors members for my nonprofit?" So in this video I share 8 tried and true places to look for board members with skills and passion for your cause!
    If you are starting a nonprofit or needing to recruit more Board members for your existing nonprofit, I hope this helps!

    Great information! We encourage organizations to more formally develop department committees that are chaired by a board member but includes primarily volunteers not on the board that we can farm for resources, including board candidacy. For example, we have a Development Committee, Finance Committee; Education Committee; etc. We use these are a our “minor leagues” that we can tap into when we need/want new board members, as well as other resources. This is very similar to your 8th method.

    I'm curious if you could do a video on strategic visioning for nonprofits. I'm in the beginning stages of building our nonprofit and recognize the benefit of working with the board-- we do not have a board quite yet, but I want to be prepared with an initial strategic visioning map to offer the board for when we sit down and eventually do it together. I'm having trouble with the strategic visioning of the short term priorities. Long term seems more accessible to me at the moment due to us (me and the founder) waiting on funding and the legal side to be finished up.

    We are in the process of building our board at the moment. #8 has proven fruitful. Also, I know of a awesome local 'volunteer hub organization' that I may tap into for some potential board members.

      Depends on the needs of your specific board / community! For example, for my own Board we developed an online training.

    Can you do a video on the process of replacing a board member? Also does the board member have to live in the United States?

    • @AmberMelanieSmith
      @AmberMelanieSmith  ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean recruiting a board member to fill an empty spot, or removing one with a vote? It is generally preferred the board member lives within the geographical area being served.

      I'm sorry to hear that. As Board members they should have a passion for your cause.
