Arizona State's Léon Marchand won the 200 breastroke title at the Pac-12 Men's Swim and Dive championships by setting the all-time record with a 1.47.67 time at King County Aquatics Center on March 4, 2023.

We don't know what to say... he's incredible. And Bob Bowman says he's in the middle of an intensive training period... what will it be like when he gets ready for a competition.
We don't know what to think, everything seems possible with him: less than 3'30" in the 400y im? less than 1'37" in the 200y im, less than 1'47" in the 200y breast?
and he hasn't swum the butterfly and the freestyle yet!

If you watch his first pullout here it shows more underwater footage: th-cam.com/video/SZO1ljVOs3U/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=USASwimming To me it looks like he initiates the dolphin kick by raising his hips, which makes it look like he kicks down. Rather, I think he raises his hips, then his feet follow, and then he kicks down. I don't know the current rule to know if this is legal, but it doesn't look like two downward kicks to me. Then again these are two different races so he could be doing something different in the PAC-12 race. We (and especially the officials) need more underwater footage if he's going to spend half the race (in SCY) underwater.

redshirting basically means that someone did not compete in a particular year due to various reasons but still kept their year of eligibility.
A NCAA D1 college athlete has at most 5 academic years to use their four years of eligibility.
So a redshirt junior is usually an academic senior who is in their third season of athletic eligibility.
