    I have an am5, use with c925 edgehd or WO zenithstar 81, my wife uses an az-gti with either a c5 or st80... we loves them

      Agreed. Those az-gti mounts really are hard to beat for grab and go mounts.

    Nice selection of mounts Ollie! All great advice for people thinking about getting a mount! I would have started with the Heq5 pro had I realized the benefits of a full goto, instead of my sky guider pro star tracker! Good idea with the microwaveable bags! Cheers Ollie, clear skies👍

    Great run through on some different mount options for deciding which is the the right first one to purchase or even an extra one for a grab and go setup like the Az-Gti.

    great advice Ollie i have the az gti as the travel setup, heq5 for medium payload and went the ioptron az pro for the heavier 180 mak etc for planetary work.

    What a great selection of astro setups Ollie! Didn't know you have such a great variety... Very nice presentation and very good review. This rowan belt mod. is definitely on my "wish list" for the future as well. - So in the end you also had some additional workout for the day! ;-)) cs

    • @AstroSoundscape
      @AstroSoundscape  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Tully - I do think that belt mod is worth it even if just for how much quieter it is. Having said that if you're getting around 1 arc sec guiding and round stars probably no rush.👍. I think you made a good move on that Heq5, it's a solid mount. CS pal :)

      @@AstroSoundscape So true...when I first heard the noise the Heq made - as a beginner - I thought I did something wrong..Then I did a little "surgery" on the gears to reduce the grinding (/noise) and I think it also improved the guiding a tiny bit...

    My other half has an HEQ5 & has had it 10 or more years now, when she gets it set up that thing guides beautifully I've often thought about adding the belt mod to it but never done it as yet. I've got the AZ EQ6 GT the earlier version that doesn't have the USB port so I use an EQ direct cable & it seems to work fine. I have pretty much maxed out the payload imaging with a RASA11 although I did remove the top dovetail bar so it could shed a few kilos at least. It still guides between 0.4 & 0.7 so I'm not complaining, I could do with a bigger mount ideally but funds or lack of them has other ideas sadly but it does seem to cope well.
    I think some of the issues with these mounts when they have iffy guiding is down the the grease which is used as it's really thick & sticky & gets worse the colder it get's. Hoping to strip a couple of mounts this weekend to strip them down & re-grease them with lithium grease but stripping the AZ EQ6 scares me a bit lol.

    • @AstroSoundscape
      @AstroSoundscape  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi there - Sounds like the AZ EQ6 can probably be pushed quite far. I know what you mean with heavier mounts and especially with the Synta ones it feels like there's nothing between the EQ6 and EQ8 which is a big jump in price. I think they need an equivalent of the iOptron CEM70. Sounds like your partner got a good Heq5, I really struggled with my guiding to begin with but the belt mod really helped it. I should probably do a regrease one day. I think like you the Heq5 Pro I'd have a go at but the AZ EQ6 would also scare me a bit. 😬 Clear skies !

    Nice video Olli, I have the az gti in EQ mode with my Skywatcher 72ed, asiair pro, zwo asi294mc imaging and zwo asi120mc-s guiding with zwo guidescope, weight is around 6kg and I can get guiding from 1.5 my best of 0.6, generally it guises around 1, I have done the tweaks inside the mount by adjusting the worm drive and better grease, clear skies

    • @AstroSoundscape
      @AstroSoundscape  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the information, it's good to know how far these mounts can go. The tweaks sound good, I've also found the axis on this mount very stiff. Might try these one day, just scared I might not get it back together 👍

    @doubledark2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    great video - well done Ollie, rather than buy the HEQ5 and the Rowan mod kit; cost wise it makes sense to seriously consider the EQ6 mount which comes with the belt drive. The weight of gear adds up quickly. Cheers from cloudy Adelaide

    • @AstroSoundscape
      @AstroSoundscape  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey ye it's a great point and I agree it's very hard to beat the EQ6 as an all rounder. I think if I were going HEQ5 Pro I'd probably be looking second hand as you'd probably get a good deal and a lot of people move from this to the EQ6. Cheers for watching from Cloudy Victoria.

      alright.. I saw "it" but it didn't register. All I could think of was how I wouldn't trust myself to not walk into it and knock the whole rig off the table. So thats really cool. Using it with one of your OSCs or have you crossed over to the dark side? :)

    I have a 130mm f9, 1200mm apo weighing about 16 lbs and only use it for visual with no imaging in my future. Do you think I can get away with the AZ EQ5 or HEQ 5 Pro with the extension?

    • @AstroSoundscape
      @AstroSoundscape  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey TA, I would say that's probably gonna be on the limit. I think if the total weight was that you might just get away with it but by the time you add camera, guidescope etc. I'd probably recommend going the EQ6 in your position. The issue becomes how many exposures you'll lose when imaging, from experience I've lost up to 30% of my exposures due to the mount struggling. Clear skies pal and happy imaging 👍:)

    Can you fit any telescope on these mounts? Or specific telescope for specific mounts

    • @AstroSoundscape
      @AstroSoundscape  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's really just the Payload of the Mount that's the limiting factor, normally you don't want to go beyond half to two thirds of the payload capacity when doing Astrophotography. The other is the plate type on the telescope but most mounts these days will take a Vixen or Losmandy style plate.

    Sir, I'm a beginner and I will buy a Skywatcher 150P-DS. I will take photo of planets and DSO. Is the EQ5 suitable for it? HEQ5 is too expensive to me.

    • @AstroSoundscape
      @AstroSoundscape  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not totally sure on that one I think for planets might be OK, but for long exposure DSO looks a little small. Maybe consider the 130PDS ?

    can you suggest if i can use HEQ5 pro with explore scientific ED127 FCD100

    • @AstroSoundscape
      @AstroSoundscape  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For me personally unless it's just for visual use I wouldn't, an EQ6 or equivalent would be much more suitable. My Esprit 120 is much too heavy for my HEQ5 Pro to guide well, but manages well on my AZ EQ6.

    Highly scientific approach! Question is three mounts for 3.5K or one for 6K?

    • @AstroSoundscape
      @AstroSoundscape  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hard to answer. These days I would probably recommend one at 6K just because I've found myself reducing mounts and also it can get stressful trying to run multiple setups which can take away from the enjoyment.

      @@AstroSoundscape I came to the same conclusion after only 1.5 years in hobby. Then, I came to second conclusion, if it can be afforded, we should have two rigs: one backyard and one in remote observatory (ideally two remote rigs: south skies and north skies).
