It would be nice if there was a drop down in the appearance editor which can link to data in MA such as gels and other color objects. This way the rgb values of those objects can be directly linked to the appearance object like it was in ma2.

It is our idea to add this also to gMA3's Appearance Editor too! :)
Perhaps in the mean time, you could already take advantage of transferring property values of one object to another?
For example, if you want to set the "Image Color" of Appearance 1 to the "MA" Gel Color of "Cyan", you could use this:
Set Appearance 1 Property "Color" At Gel "MA"."Cyan"
( or )
Set Appearance 1 Property "Color" At Gel 1.2
