Man that is totally unreal to hear they are only a half step down on all their albums. I never tried to play any of their stuff. Have to respect Deicide and even moreso with that info.
Im good friend with Glen and it’s funny you mentioned that „Light Defeated“ has that Biohazard vibe coz that’s exactly what i thought as well and also told Glen. In my opinion best Deicide album overall in terms of production, songwriting and overall vibe. If they gonna re-record the first album then i guess that will take the cake but for the time being this is my favorite Deicide album
Strong stance. That's awesome. Thank you for watching all the way to the end bro! Awesome you had the same feeling with Light Defeated. Thanks for the comment
I LOVE the new album. Has a Thrashy Death feel to it which is a bit new for Deicide. I love that they're paying more attention to song structures now and it's not just typical brutal Death Metal. There's actually a bit more melody musically, most notably the largest improvement being the guitar solos. The solos are magnificent and this album is amazing. The album starts off right away with a VERY Thrash Metal type riff. And I still love the production, no matter how sterile people think it is. The guitar playing is miles ahead of most of the previous albums. Taylor Nordberg and Kevin Quirion are f*cking incredible. And Glen's vocals are strong as ever. Asheim is still as insane as ever. The man is a machine. Overall, one of my favorite Death Metal albums of the year. Great review.
Best review of this I've heard. Bro how do you rate the super intense picking of these dudes on this CD compared to Hoffman brothers around 'Once upon...'?
Great question bro and thank you. Well not saying the bros weren't playing really well. Just saying the definition of the production is hard to find flaws. Older productions are a little muddied. Thanks for the comment.
Bass is really loud? GREAT! For once. Very good Frank Bello comparison! I really enjoyed this analysis, you know what youre talking about. I agree with 90-94% of your opinion, even though I'm not as much of an authority. You do look like him. Peace ✌️
E flat, D standard, is it that big of a difference? As long as the songs are good, I don't care about a certain tuning regulation, if that's what it is. Lots of bands have different tunings. Anyway... I think they are great and they have never had a "Black" album. My hat is off to Glen and his dark forces!
I want to start this comment by saying don't get me wrong I am the most loyal ferocious metal head out there. I go back To the paranoid record by Black Sabbath. I love the Hard rock of the late 60s and 70s the hair metal and heavy metal of the 80s and the thrash metal and speed metal of the 80s the death metal of the 90s, and the melodic death metal and still listen to and cherish all of that to this day. What I guess I don't really get and never really understood was all this anti-christian and anti Christianity death metal. Without getting completely religious or spiritual on anyone and that is up to each individual to believe what they believe there just seems to me to be enough other stuff to sing about and still play blast beats, double bass, shredding guitar, and bass lines. It's bad enough for other bands who are satanic and really do endorse that stuff but these guys are not even true satanists which makes it in my opinion much worse.
It's got a good production? That's good cuz most of these 'modern' metal productions suck so bad. All the drums sound the same. But what I've heard over the computer, this albums sounds good. I'd like to hear a vinyl copy on my home stereo, though.
Ive been disappointed with just about every Deicide album after Legion. It always seemed like every album they were missing one ingredient from the original formula. I have kept tabs on every release hoping they would make a return to greatness....as the first two albums are legendary. I will say this album is the closest they've came in my eyes.
I'm not into modern sound. You know I love Megadeth rust in Peace but I hate the sound. I like the 3 first albums because of the haunting sound. I wish rest in peace have the sound of the first three albums but the songwriting is so great it doesn't matter. As long as the songwriting does something I like the new dog s*** modern sound will be annoying but I will go on it

Once upon the cross was my very first death metal cd . I knew nothing about them. I saw the art work and was like fuck yeah.
I saw them on that tour. It was brutally terrifying. Hahaha
Agreed. Liked it ftom first listen. I need to go pick up a physical copy. Great reviewp man!
Thank you bro.
Good review. I agree. It’s pretty damn good

Need to pick this one up. The cover art doesn’t bother me. At the end of the day I’m there for the music.

Yeah it's nothing super new but same here. About 5- 6 times before I did this

Not a big difference though the point is most deathmetal bands tune to c or lower. Much lower than Deicide. Thank you for the comment bro

I kinda agree with you, but IMO Stench doesn´t miss anything. And its filled with awesome solos and riffs. Definitely their best post Legion album
Once Upon the Cross is great too
it's a good album. not blowing me away but it's no Aluminum In My Anus Morbid Angel garbage.
Yeah agreed. Tight heavy and fast.
I´d give it a 3/5. Its decent but nothing special. The overproduced production further ruins it for me. Not something to write home about
