That was bizarre. You're in the Philippines. Surely you see people living in harmony with bamboo. Most homes are built with bamboo. They did not buy the bamboo. They planted it and used it however many years later. You learned what you are saying from them, not the other way around. My goodness, a big white guy from the West telling Asians how to live with bamboo and sustainability. Ridiculous. Focus on sharing their best practices. As soon as you combine that with modern engineering it becomes industrial and much less sustainable. Yes, I agree that they see it as a "poor person's choice" of building material. The kids move to the big city to get a job to buy a concrete house that cracks from the first earthquake or just because it is made with sand and not real concrete or lacks rebar. That is sad to see.
