Frankie Manning - In Memoriam

Frankie Manning, the ambassador of lindy hop, passed away on April 27, 2009 after a full and rich life of 94 years. This video was compiled for a memorial dance at the Jam Cellar in Washington DC. Frankie will be dearly missed, but his legacy lives on through lindy hoppers all around the world.

I played Bass Trombone in the Riverside Big Band in the Detroit area about 15 years ago. Frankie was teaching for a group of Lindy Hop fans. It was a special night. He could still swing it on the dance floor. An American Icon!

The only ones I have seen dancers doing Lindy Hop aerials were on youtube because these were dancers in the 30's and 40"s. In the '50's its the Boogie Woogie. But some told me this was a swing revised in Germany after WWII. I wonder if this is true.
But looking at Frankie and Frieda- no one can duplicate these moves. They were unique in their craft.
