As a kid a long long time ago, I was in the SCC Chichester I got the chance to be on TS ROYLIST 2nd yardsman. So I was 14 health and safety has killed tall ships. Joined the merchant navy ended up on RFA OLNA in 82 down south.

Hi Carlton, Many thanks for your comments. To be honest, that is what visitors to the Gloucester Tall Ships Festival expect to see, tall ships! I spoke to a family from Liverpool with a sense of humour, they looked at me and smiled

Hi Chris wasn't this organised by the chap who did the eurovision in Liverpool. Hence the title Rock the Dock. That worked well didn't it

Thanks Chris another good video telling how it is, sadly the small ships will get smaller and eventually disappear due to the lack of maintenance, and the Kathleen and May will never move again due to her draft.

Very disappointing event, but this is what we have come to expect in Gloucester. You described it well.
By the way, I enjoy all of your videos and am impressed by the quality of filming and editing. Keep up the good work!😃

A shame to see this decline. I recall being on a packed cafe balcony at the nearby Sainsburys store to see a fine process, although this must have been around ten years ago. I also recall the bustle of activity in the two dry docks where would refurbish such ships. Finally, when living in Quedgeley, it was a short stroll to the Pilot Inn from where we had a clear view of the canal as the bridge swung open and a stately procession of ships would pass in near silence. I am sorry this short film could not bring back those better memories.

I believe it to be a sign of the times as allegedly Bristol has gone the same way!

Bristol harbour festival has gone the same way, more about food stalls and music not anything to do with the sea or ships.

What a great money spinner the tall ships could be again for Gloucester, if the council made an investment with our hard earnt money in encouraging tourism and not wasting it on cycle tracks. Get the tourist money in and then invest in infrastructure.

Totally agree, apart from the ships, there was definitely something missing from the event. It may have been the charge of £14 each to simply walk around the dock with £5 extra to go on the ships. It used to be free and so busy that a one way system of walking around the dock had to be implemented.

@@ChrisWitts You would think it would be illegal to charge people for walking in a public space, or is it private, seems to me someone is doing everything wrong. I do enjoy your videos, thanks.
