Awesome review/tutorial Steve! Santa brought me one of these for Christmas and now after seeing this I am just waiting for a decent day to give it a whirl. Thanks Steve!!!
I had a 850, they should put the spring front wheel from the Ranger 1.2 on it. Mine on the second flight came in hard on the front wheel and took out the servo and the wheel.
I don't know how I missed this video. I am on the fence about this GPS. It's kind of good and kind of useless. When flying planes you always should have a close line of sight and not let it get out of view. With the GPS I would kind of hope there was FPV as well like most drones and you could see from the plane as you are flying. Especially in gyro mode it would be a no brainer. But, I am a novice myself and don't know all the ins and outs. The motor seems a little underpowered if it was having a hard time in the little bit of wind you had. Full speed did not appear to be 40mph unless again it was the wind.
So, i received this plane last week (red) and went to our flying field today for the maiden flight, armed with our four fully charged batteries. Well, the damned flimsy strut hinge arrangement broke extremely easily, right at the hinge point, even before we could maiden the plane. I have been involved in every aspect of the hobby for the last 61 years (I'm 69) and started with a plastic .049 Cox PT-19 back then. I ended up flying my big T-28 Trojan instead. I just notified FMS about this issue. Let's see how they respond to customers.
Thanks for sharing Steve. Love the videos. However I was watch another TH-camr who wash trashing you out 😂😂😂. Says he not doing anymore videos because of people like you " captain drone " and he went on and on and on 😂😂. Guess he is an FPV drone pilot who usually builds and reviews high end stuff. The thing is you cater to a specific audience, for persons like me , who want to get into the hobby without breaking the bank to see if it's something we would like . And I appreciate it, we appreciate it ! Any way just though it was hilarious that he mentioned Captain Drone 😂😂.

Man I wish I had the GPS feature for my little yellow XK Trojan I lost. It was a windy day and let it get a little too far away on downwind so that I lost orientation with it, and off it went never to be seen again! The return to home feature would have saved me from having to buy another one, but lesson learned!
That's a great plane. But I must say I bought a HobbyZone Champ S + a few years ago and it has the gps and it is capable of doing the same flights as your Ranger except this Champ S + has auto land which it will begin an upwind landing approach and will land near the initialization point. Unfortunately it is discontinued.

Hi Steve, Another great video. I've been looking at the PNP version and the e-Flite UMX Turbo Timber Evolution. Going wiht the RTR is a good idea for the GPS but I'd want to fly with my Radiomaster Boxer. That's why I was looking at the PNP. I'm curious of your thoughts about the better plane. Ranger or e-Flite UMX TTE. Being able to get the PNP version with GPS would be an excellent option. Another question, would you add the Reflex V2 Flight Controller?
If you are a super newbie in the RC Plane hobby, start with the easiest to fly plane like this one. Then when you get some confidence buy any HIGH WING (wing on top) RC plane and use your boxer with a compatible receiver. If you like have a gyro in the plane for stability, the FMS Reflex, among many others, is a good choice. The worst mistake you could make is getting a PNP plane as your first plane (you’ll be very lost).
Thanks Steve. I've been flying for a couple of months, specifically three Voltanex mini warbirds using my Boxer. I've got the UMX Air Tractor and have a great time with that, esp. on 3S as it has so much power and is nice and fast. The UMX TTE would use the same batteries so that is a real plus, and I love the flaps! If the Ranger had flaps, I'd be in for sure as I want a slightly bigger plane (850 vs 700). I've been looking at the BNF versions of the UMX TTE. I agree that I don't need to get into the receiver side yet as I don't really know what I like/don't like. Hello Steve. Chris from Pennsylvania, I bought this plane about 4 years ago. When I was flying it full throttle went to Low throttle and low went to full. It happened once in the air, and twice on the ground. pulled out the receiver and went to a different controller. I don't consider this a beginner. Has anybody else had a similar experience let me know. 🤗
There may be words missing in your comment as I’m not sure I understand what you said. If you were referring to the throttle changing in flight, that would be a battery issue. All RC planes (well most) will pulse the throttle high/low to warn you the battery is getting low and you best land quickly.
@@martymcbride3234You see, I don’t know you or your skills thus I can’t understand you when you say “which is better”? Both are great but one has more safety features than the other. If you are a total newbie to RC planes then you have to buy a Ready To Fly kit because you’ll never figure things out unless you are technically inclined. In addition, as with FPV drones and helicopters, practice practice practice on a flight simulator.
Steve I've been flying rc planes since the 1980s. On a traditional rc plane remote, the throttle (left) joystick IS NOT supposed to drop back to the bottom like that under spring tension. It's supposed to stay exactly where you set it so you can take your throttle hand and do something else with it, like flip a dual rate switch. It would be pretty inconvenient and potentially heartbreaking for me to remove my hand from the throttle, expecting it to stay where it is like it's supposed to, and then have the model stall because the power fell back to idle. 🤨Also, just a tip from a long time plane pilot: When flying planes, especially when doing video of the flights, you ideally want to keep the plane out in front of you and fly a racetrack/oval pattern and keep your feet and body oriented one way. In other words, fly the plane around a fixed point in the field. Not flying the plane around you as the fixed point, and forcing you to turn in circles with the plane. This is how you end up with sun in your eyes and losing sight of it. Fly with back to the sun and keep plane out there in front of you and you won't have that problem. It might save you from a crash and would make the videos easier to shoot.
Never dealt with FMS ( Flying Model Simulator ). I know they are a Chinese company but do they have a physical North-american presence, and if so where ?
Had one, something wrong as it just went to china flew away! Im an expert but was testing it for a kid! Apparently common issue with this, shame as it is lovely otherwise.
GPS is a game changer! However, I'm not sure my grandmother could fly that, though? She has been dead for 20 years now. Thanks again for supporting the University of Michigan by the maize and blue jacket. Oh, I liked the cute take-off crash. The plane seemed to really exaggerate it. Drama Queen!

Check out my other RC plane vids, you’ll be impressed
Never dealt with FMS ( Flying Model Simulator ). I know they are a Chinese company but do they have a physical North-american presence, and if so where ?
FMS Hobby has a presence in the USA. When you buy you are buying from the US.
Thank you. Once again, like HobbyKing; BangGood and others, no Canadian 🇨🇦 presence. What gives with this ? @@CAPTAINDRONE798
Had one, something wrong as it just went to china flew away!
Im an expert but was testing it for a kid!
Apparently common issue with this, shame as it is lovely otherwise.
Joke. What did the beach say to the ocean when the tide come in " long time no sea" 😂☺😆😄🤣😀
Hilarious! Let me contact your agent and I’ll see if I can book you for another week 😄
👍
🆒👌
I wish someone Will gift me this plane
It's to slow
It's not a "remote"
It's also called " binding " the radio. Transmitter.
Keep teaching nonsense instead . . . !
Grandpa? Is that you?
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 at least I don't fly around in" Loops" Nonsense. These are mis informed. Videos. For beginners to learn incorrectly.
No you're assuming again. I'm. Not a Grandpa!
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 grandpa is smarter than even grandma can fly this nonsense.
But you sound like a "KAREN" of sorts... you know that person that ruins everyones day, especially if people are having fun at a flying field. You see in the world, outside your street, people will call a RADIO a Transmitter or a Remote (all accepted terms). My channel has DJI DRONE PILOTS and thanks to DJI, a Radio is called a REMOTE. Binding is called Linking. Also, in most countries, an RC Plane is considered a DRONE. If that one seems confusing to you, then you best check with your Government.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 I don't fly drones or follow the government.
Agency rules. Or belong to a club.
I build & fly & get stopped asking how I built the plane & how cool it is! I don't have any problems. A license or training.
Drones killed the R/C airplane hobby for week end park flyers. And then confused the two.
I've seen aerobatics and acrobatics terms used too. but people don't want be corrected. You keep assuming. But you don't know me, at all. At least I don't spread nonsense.
