A book series that I have read is called The Lunar Chronicles. It’s basically 4 books that are based off of classic fairy tails, but take place 1,000 years after today. So they have androids, cyborgs, hovers, ports and all kinds of technology. The 1st book is called Cinder who’s basically Cinderella, the 2nd is Scarlet and she’s based off of Little Red Riding Hood, the 3rd is Cress and she’s based off of Rapunzel and the 4th is Winter and she’s based off of Snow White. All 4 books are very good and I highly recommend! The author is Marissa Meyer.

If you like historical fiction, I recommend Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett! It takes place during 12th century England and it is amazing because character development is on par with George R. R. Martin's books, and the history part of the book is super accurate!! It centers around daily life in a medieval village, but also relates to the true events of Empress Matilda and her cousin Stephen fighting for the throne. You may have read about them when you were doing your beauty beacon research for Eleanor of Aquitaine. :)

Very interesting as always to hear your views. On book recommendations I heartily recommend Anne Cleeves' series of Shetland crime mysteries. I'm Irish but love both Scotland and Scandinavia. In fact the further north I go the happier I get. This year I was lucky enough to go up into the Artic Ocean, visit Norway and on the way back go to Shetland. And the place mesmerised me. The wonderful mix of Scottish and Scandinavian in building, attitude and culture. Above all how un-insular it is, if that's a word. Islands, even Ireland in the past, can often be insular, prejudiced closed places and Shetland is anything but. Their biggest island is called Mainland which says everything. Scotland isn't mainland to them and neither is Norway. They view themselves as central, not cut off. Anyway getting slowly back to the point Anne Cleeves not only writes brilliant crime mysteries but gloriously captures sense of place and only when I went to Shetland did I realise how perfectly she has done it. I am halfway through one of her Shetland series called 'Thin Air' about a disappearance among English visitors to Unst, Shetland's most northerly isle and I have to put it down now and then just to stop me galloping through it so that I can stay there longer. :]

My favorite book is The Secret Garden, and so is my favourite movie (1993 version). I believe you will love them both, so if you don't know them I highly suggest them :-) (And it doesn't matter if you watch the movie first, you will enjoy reading the book too in any case).

'Travels with Herodotus' - Ryszard Kapuscinski, "The Girl Who Escaped Isis' - Farida Khalaf, 'The Saga of the Volsings', 'Silence in the Age of Noise' - Erling Kagge, and 'Norse Mythology' - Neil Gaiman.
I have always wanted to read Sherlock but never have.. haha I really should start making that a priority.

one of my all time favourite books is "Cloud Atlas" by David Mitchell ! it follows different characters living in different time periods, so there's a bit of historical and some sci-fi, it will make you laugh, cry and think about loads of stuff. even if you're not usually into sci-fi, give it a try, i can't recommend it enough. there's also a really good movie adaptation :)

-Name of the Wind, by Patrick Rothfuss, if you havent read it. It's beautifully written, gives me LotR-meets-Harry Potter vibes but for grown-ups. Def my fave recent book.
-American Gods, by Neil Gaiman. There's a ton of mythology and history and it's also a fun story

Audiobook for LOTR really helped me get through the books. I struggled reading through the first book and then half way through the second book I started listening to the audiobook and it was much more interesting listening to the story rather than reading it for some reason??? I just googled a free audiobook of the LOTR on TH-cam lol. I am onto the the third instalment now but I have halted to make my way through a re-read of the Harry potter books (also audio booking with Stephan Fry narrating). Good luck!

Fun fact: The audio books of LotR are read by the german voice actor of Gandalf. He rolls the r a lot so bonus points for that, too, because obviously Morrrrrdorrrrr is a lot cooler than plain Mordor! :v

i've been loving audiobooks because reading seems like a chore with all the uni readings i have 🙈 my library has online audiobooks you can borrow so it's free for me!
i LOVE melina marchetta (australian YA/ adult writer). currently re-experiencing finnikin of the rock, a fantasy/ fiction book that really concentrates on the horror of being a refugee, being part of a diaspora, and trying to survive. really good and emotional.
I'm also re-readig/ listening to patrick ness (the knife of never letting go and the other two books is great YA).
I of course adore kerry greenwood and her whole lot of phryne fisher murder mystery books. if you like sherlock holmes i'm sure you'll ADORE phryne fisher.

Hooray, a fellow Pisces! If you're at all interested in astrology, I recommend the book The Inner Sky by Steven Forrest. I'm reading it now, and it's super interesting to explore the meanings behind the signs and planets. (Who knew there was so much more than just the sun sign!) Whether it has any actual fact behind it, who knows, but it's still fun to read about regardless. He explains in his first chapter that astrologers and non-astrologers alike often misunderstand astrology as fortune-telling, but it's not that at all. It's just another way of making sense of the world and discovering how we can be the best versions of ourselves :)

I think you'd enjoy reading Libba Bray's "A Great and Terrible Beauty" (Gemma Doyle Trilogy).
It's set in the Victorian Era and is about 4 girls who visit a boarding school for young ladies and who try to find some kind of "freedom" in a world that's really all about making you a good housewife (to a man you'll have to serve no matter the way he treats you) and future mother. It also has some really nice ideas about magic (not so much Harry Potter-ish but more like one of them having some kind of visions that were passed down in the family and all of them working with the moon and just more "realistic" kind of magic, I guess (if you can say any kind of magic is realistic haha) :D) It also has a great love story, as one of the girls falls in love with an Indian Boy, who is not befitting her social rank... So all in one, I really think, you'd enjoy the storyline and atmosphere in the books 😊
Other than that a few books that already have been mentioned here like Name of the Wind by Rothfuss, I couldn't stop reading when I started it!
Ken Follett's Pillars of the Earth or World Without End are great books.
If you want more action: Bernard Cornwell's Saxon Stories (The first one being "The Last Kingdom" - you might have seen the series on Netflix) - the books a really a great read and set place in England in the Viking Era.
    I'm a Ravenclaw btw 🦅💙😁

Hi! :) Just a thought, have you considered doing hair and makeup for television or movie sets as a plan B or a side job? The skills you demonstrate with your Halloween tutorials, historical hair and makeup series and even every-day looks are insanely amazing. You are truly so creative and talented. I could see you being so successful on a fantasy movie set!! I guess this could involve traveling which wouldn't be ideal, but for shows or movies filmed in and around the Netherlands, it could work. They film a ton of stuff in Scotland/Ireland, etc for the amazing scenery- for example the current show Vikings! :)

I love that you brought up the animal welfare donation you would give! And I would spend the money exactly like you said (currently buying a house myself, and yeah... I would love a million euros right about now!). Also, as a long time fan of you, I love the fact that you are not a traveler. Did you know that using airplane transportation is one of the biggest contributors to global warming? It's totally ok to not want to travel! I think it's often seen as something very inherently interesting and desirable to say you want to travel and "check off" places on a map, but I actually find it refreshing that you have your own view on it, and I agree with you. I also loved your post on that back when you first posted it.
