it's still gambling mechanics though... and the kind that make me too worried it's gonna shove in microtransactions in a month, once all the positive press has gone out so most people have already bought it and invested time. That's how it's often done now...
@@MrGreenYeti the crash team racing remake is my personal worst experience of this. I'm mad at the loot boxes because I'm stuck. You can only progress in the story by having the right car for it. I don't have any of the cars, so I need to grind for money to get a CHANCE at getting the right car. But the payout is so low, it makes me feel like I'm doing a chore
what's that acceleration mode thing yuou had at the start to get purple? I thought you just had to hit it at the right time to get purple, that's an entirely different system?

you can tell by how the box moves, what is in it. it stays still for basic, then I think side to side for rare, up and down or back and fourth for legendary and vice versa for the treasure rarity.
This is a awesome game. So much fun. Lots of collectibles and even more coming apparently. Well worth getting. Playing with a few friends this will be a proper laugh.
I really liked "crash team racing". CRT didn't launch with any micro transactions but they put everything in place and switched it on later. This game could simply give you random boxes but instead it gives you a currency .... In a couple of months if it hasn't done a 180 I'll give it a chance. However, right now it just looks like another bait and switch.
@@GuyOnTheInternet53 No. But it makes getting stuff harder to incentivize spending real money instead of playing the game for an unreasonable amount of time. And implementing mtx only after good reviews and word of mouth boosted sales is a legitimately scummy thing to do.

Update, I'm no longer stuck. I realized that the secrets were telling me to play as certain cars in certain races but it wasn't clear at all. But, they made an update that removes the road block and makes the secrets way more clear. I've beaten the bosses and I'm now working on getting more cars. It’s not a breaking kind of game, right until you play custom tracks, then breaking becomes one of your most important skill as those tracks are significantly more prone to flying out of the track. There are literal tracks where you must break in order to make the inverted loop.
Do you have to unlock the livery options? I just started it, and just finished the Tutorial race. I got the Honda S2000 though, and wanted to customise it, doesn't seem to be any options though.
Well the pass we know almost nothing about right now and dlc is different then micro Transactions since dlc is a one time purchase and done while micro Transactions have no limit
I am stuck in this game. I can not progress in the story because I don't have the right car to unlock the secret missions, so I need 500 money to get a CHANCE to get the car I need, but races pay out 50 money per race, which mans I have to either spend hours grinding for loot boxes in offline races, roll the dice and see if the internet will let me play online matches for slightly more money, or break the cars I already own for money, which why would you ever want to do. This is not good game design, this is a chore
I've wondered about this game and once again Mr Nerd Cubed comes through! Love your book Dan! Tell Rebecca Hi :)! Thank you for so many years of laughter and fun!
the top reviews on steam for this game are panning it calling it "pay to win" because of the loot boxes... a game where you can't pay for currency is apparently pay to win WTF is wrong with PC players. whatever, it's their loss tbh. this game is amazing.
Huh. Ads in a NerdCubed video? Weird. Either Google's decided that they MUST get paid no matter what the creator says or else Dan's finally relented. Wonder which it is? There's always time for the Crash Team Racing Switcheroo. But then, this isn't published by Activision, so hopefully that won't happen.
