  • Waterproofing a tent is made easier using any spray bottle, and a litre of Fabsil and a micro fiber cloth.....
    The spray allows a more even coat, than using a brush. The micro fiber cloth will spread the coat, and absorb the unwanted heavy runs.
    1. Ensure the tent is clean
    2. apply a thin coat and work it in
    3. Allow coat to dry.
    4. Reapply further coats (the fabric should feel silky)
    5. Build up many thin layers, rather that one thick one

    Top man, what a quality job you have done. I loved how you treated the seams ! Bought a second hand Vango Colorado 800 tent, probably around 7 to 10 years old. Went camping last weekend and it was dripping inside (not too bad) that sent me on a Google hunt on what the problem was and how to fix it. Came across Fabsil as the top product to use and then searched here on how to apply it, loved how you apply it to your shoes ! 😂😂 You know what we men van be like, probably will start applying it to everything ! Might buy a big container as the tent is big, will do the insides as well. Top man, thanks for the demo !

      Don't forget to use seam tape on the seams also, or silnet sealant. Will give your tent a new lease of life...bex

    Wow, Just look at the water beading! I could have used some on my leaky roof last weekend. Very Nice job sealing the DD Brother. Cheers from Swansea, SC. Happy Trails

      It just needs the seams, silicon sealed now, a pain of a job. The tent manufactures should have done these jobs though.....Hey ho, now I have a sealed tent I hate...Lol....bex

      Fabsil pretty good for these types of jobs, there are stronger industrial versons, but this is sufficient for this tent...bex

      Fabsil is an old product.
      I can remember getting a tent when I was in my teens.
      That was some forty years ago.
      I can remember proofing my tent with Fabsil and it was as excellent then, as it is now...😎👍👍

    Very good :) How much of the tin did you use, the whole lot?
    Here's a tip: the best atomizer spray that I've ever used (40+ years) is from Dettox antibacterial spray - worth buying just for the atomizer!
    Great video as per usual Bex, all the best to you and yours 👍

    Your so putting me of buying DD stuff, I was looking at DD 2 man teepee tent but I wouldn't of thought you would have to fabsil it ,think I'll stick with my miltec recon oneman tent, and I've already fabsil it lol

    • @bexbugoutsurvivor
      @bexbugoutsurvivor  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am sticking to Vango from now on. DD isn't what it was some years ago, buyers beware. I was looking at the recon tent a couple of nights ago. Eureka make a similar shaped field tent. I pitched my DD 3x2.9 tarp as a pyramid (single skin) no SIG, works for the summer....all the best Harry

    I've always use silicon spray to coat my gear, How does this compare? Is there any advantage with Fabsil compared to silicon spray? Looks good Bex ! ✌

    • @bexbugoutsurvivor
      @bexbugoutsurvivor  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fabsil is also silicon based. Its suitable for most jobs, but the spray is best built up in layers. I'm sure there is better on the market, but these would cost a lot more......bex

    Outrageous that you had to do that to a brand new tent. The manufacturers should be ashamed of putting out such a substandard product.

    • @bexbugoutsurvivor
      @bexbugoutsurvivor  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not just a substandard, but an over priced substandard product. All the seams are blown too. (needle too big for the size of thread used) Just need an idiot to sell it to, (after all I bought it) Lol

      It's how it is with these manufacturers nowadays.
      Whether it's a tent you have purchased or something else, everything is classed as an extra and a rip off...😎👍👍

    i used 2.5L of fabsil on a canvas tent recently,
    i didnt bother rubbing it in, just saturated the material and left it to dry,
    (massive over kill ... but why not)

    • @bexbugoutsurvivor
      @bexbugoutsurvivor  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Canvas needs a bit more I reckon. Wet canvas is stupid heavy, and takes about three and a half years to dry out...Lol
      Had a mate who put half inside, and half outside with canvas pup tent...bex

    Hello! Bex,
    Does the Fabsil have any lingering smell and is it fire resistant?
    ATB,
    Steven.

    • @bexbugoutsurvivor
      @bexbugoutsurvivor  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Once Fabsil is cured, there was no smell at all. Fabsil does not show in its literature that it is a fire retardant, so I would guess a no on that. There are fire retardant sprays available, how ever I don't know if mixing the two chemicals, one after the other, would have an adverse affect on each other or not. Go for a fire retardant that water proofs, all in one product instead....atb...bex
