- Driving the Col de la Machine & Combe Laval in France, in July 2021. As an engineer, I already liked this road before driving it, just for its name :-) Just after reaching the top of the Col de la Machine we enter a section titled the "Cirque de Combe Laval", with breathtaking views whilst driving along a cliff.

One of those places that just begs to be videoed by drone. I flew mine there in 2019 on my last trip through the area. Always glad so see someone else's perspective. I flew from the pullout at 6:40 in your video. Being on a motorcycle means that you can almost always find a safe place to pull off out of traffic.

Why did the French build balcony roads? They are amazing, but what possessed anyone to think of putting a road there?
These roads were built to get the logs cut up in the mountain down in the valley.
The keyframe beating problem from previous videos is resolved!!!
The sharpness remains to be corrected, if necessary: with the GoPro 8 the medium sharpness mode in 3840 by 2160 is correct, in 2.7K only the low sharpness mode is usable but then add the equivalent of -vf unsharp = 7: 7: 1.5 : 5: 5: 0.7 of ffmpeg when exporting upscale 2160p
GoPro 7's 2.7K mode is better than GoPro 8 and above because of the sharpness dosage "medium".
!!! profil color flat, no "GoPro" !!!
I'm recording with a GoPro 8, medium sharpness, and bumped the sharpness in FCP by 3.5 points. Checked sharpness by zooming 200% until I thought it looked okay. Any tips for checking/improving the sharpness?
@@RoadtripThroughTheLens The best is not to change anything, the GoPro 8 provides an image just in point in 4K, it is not necessary to accentuate the sharpness, it is to increase the local contrast, to increase the flow requirements, and to lose quality on youtube, especially in the intermediate definitions.

@@RoadtripThroughTheLens With the GoPro 8 it is the low sharpness mode without modifying anything just perfect 100Mb / s for 2.7k, the rendering in 2.7K is better than in 4K rendered to the nearest pixel without artifacts.
Little difference in 4K, if you export it directly
Here is what it looks like for another youtubeur who uses this mode th-cam.com/video/B8YgxYt9Djo/w-d-xo.html I like it but lack of vegetation to judge, and my test but in 4K th-cam.com/video/9stNlyMMGek/w-d-xo.html which I find a little degraded on youtube. What seems to degrade the least is a video with sharpness, in YUV420 mode as obtained with ffmpeg -i IN-2.7k60L.mp4 -c:v libx264 -pix_fmt yuv420p -crf 25 -vf scale=3840x2160:flags=lanczos,unsharp=7:7:2.5:3:3:1.2,eq=gamma=1.15,setdar=16:9 -c:a aac -b:a 356k OUT-2160p.mp4 ffmpeg space keyframes as much as possible, so no rhythmic pulsation like on your old videos.
