Back around 1970 a Dallas oil man started flying a new jet ranger out to the lake we went to in Texas, Possum Kingdom. He always landed right in front of our condo. My favorite part was those slow startups and takeoffs.
58% Starter button off, turbine self sustained, please remove battery assist sir. Roll it up to 70% throttle, go to headset, avionics on, generator on, landing light on for departure, Roll it all the way up, TOT in the green, request direct over the south hangers....done it many times...lol.
Very inexpensive "GPU". Just a battery bank. Being there, done that. The best way for ground crew to leave the area is the preferred exit from the 9 to 3 o'clock area, then as required. This way, the pilot knows for sure it's clear, unless a marshaller is present.
Very smooth & controlled flight. It appears that the strobe is not functioning. It would have been part of his pre-start checklist. Could it be that it was inoperable? Pilot would not have known unless it was switched on to check during his pre-flight.
Because its kinder to the onboard battery. The onboard battery is not very big and they might be having to restart at a later time away from home. A weak battery can result in not enough start rpm and a hot start where the pilot allows fuel to be introduced too early and can cause a few hundred thousand dollars worth of damage to the engine.
The sound of a jet ranger along with the Huey and chinook are probably the most iconic sounding helicopters ever.
You forgot the Mi-8/17? Scintillating 😍

I remember seeing one of these at a television station years ago and was blown away at how loud it was in real life.
I still marvel at the helicopter they are truly amazing machines, and the fact that they create their own lift is even more amazing.
This is what comes to the mind of most of you when you hear the word “helicopter”.
Excellent footage, love the JetRanger's - I Just Subscribed 👍😎
That pilot has a few hours under his belt.... super steady pickup, hover and departure.

foxtrot789 I believe you're correct. Very smooth transitions.....Heli's are WAY harder to master vs a fixed wing...
GTA V fans: Your exclusive look into a real start-up of the Maverick 🤣

Great turbo sound...
Ground power unit, to help preserve the helicopter battery
1:38 excellent training
Engine start at :22 - Liftoff at 3:55.
This is in Honduras, Central America.
The 206 is My favorite in the Ranger series. I'm a fool for a 2 bladed rotor head. Must be the unique sound much less.
Los helicópteros son a mi parecer un invento extraordinario
Lo creo!
Also would love to see takeoff and landing views too.
#1.ALWAYS. NICELY😎
Ross Perot and his son would race Ross's speed boat against the Son's Jet Ranger.

what was the matter with the tail rotor during the start..?
Nothing wrong with it. What do you mean?
Nothing wrong. It's the wagon wheel effect where the Rpm's sync up with the shutter speed
