Ashley, I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this, but I'm happy you're finding answers! You should check out Downshiftology's channel/blog. She has celiac and makes all gluten free and some dairy free recipes. All are modifiable for a lot of diets including vegan.

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto in my early 30s and have lived with it for about 15 years.. not fun wish I could tell you it will get better but it all becomes a rollercoaster but one you can’t stop.. I tried being a vegetarian and a vegan and Drs saw my vitamin intake was close to none. Even if you take vitamins. Sadly eggs, poultry, fish has the main things that will curve your symptoms. Your in the beginning stages.. and all I can say stay positive because depression, anxiety play a role in this fabulous disease. I’m glad your sister now knows why you’ve been edgy and sadly we don’t have control of our moods. At times you’ll feel bipolar because your highs are great but your lows are bad, man your mood can change in 0.5 sec. your not alone theirs a couple of us out here.. oh yea the cause can range from a child trauma, exposure of radiation(xrays for me), or dna. So far that’s what studies have showed. Stay strong❤️

Yeah everything you said pretty much sums up my current experience. I would really love to maintain being vegetarian/vegan but if it's negatively impacting my health I'll do what I need to do. I plan to speak to a nutritionist to develop a plan of action. I am in the beginning stages, which can feel very overwhelming because it's a lot to take in and figure out, but hopefully with some research and trial and error I'll figure out what works best for me.

I used to be vegan, but I no longer am as I didn't think it was the best for my health. I know you are vegetarian, but I would highly recommend incorporating small amounts of organic pasture raised meats, wild-caught fish, etc. It's important to make sure they are super high quality. The AIP diet is a good place to start for an autoimmune disorder. The Ultimate Health Podcast is a great resource. Marni also has Hashi's and came from a vegetarian diet! Good luck!

Thanks for the tips and advice! I would like to maintain being a vegetarian/vegan if possible. If it's negatively impacting my health I would consider other options of course, but I plan to work with a nutritionist on what's best for me and my body given everything. I'm familiar with AIP, and actually followed it for a month a few years ago, but didn't like how it made me feel. I'll look into that podcast. Thanks!

I have hypothyroid and many docs have thought I have hashimotos but I’ve never tested positive so far. The extreme fatigue is debilitating at times but exercise has helped me significantly

I believe it is possible to have hypothyroidism and not have Hashimoto's, but Hashimoto's is the leading cause of hypothyroidism. I feel ya on the fatigue, it's rough. I do exercise regularly but sometimes the muscle pain prohibits me from doing so unfortunately.

So I don’t have Hashimoto disease but I’ve had Thyroid Cancer and before I was diagnosed I had all of the symptoms of weight gain and fatigue. My doctor put me on synthroid and I felt so much better and stopped gaining the weight. I will have to say don’t trust the thyroid numbers when deciding on medication. I would go on how you feel. The reason that I say this is that my thyroid numbers NEVER changed even with thyroid cancer. You will be surprised on how the meds for thyroid makes you feel more like your normal self. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice! If I've learned anything so far it's that there is not a cookie cutter way to treat this. I agree that it's most important to go off of how you feel.

I've wondered if I have hashimoto's myself. I've gained weight over the last few years and it's really frustrating. My doctor blows off the idea bc my thyroid levels are always really good. I believe this is a separate test. Btw poppy in that little hoodie is kind of the cutest thing I've ever seen!

So I would highly recommend you ask your doctor to test your thyroid antibodies. Most people have Hashimoto's for years before it's officially diagnosed because your thyroid levels can still be normal. It's only as the Hashimoto's progresses that your thyroid levels elevate. And yes Poppy in a hoodie is SO CUTE!

yeah, it's a bit of a bummer, but I feel strongly about remaining optimistic and educating myself on how I can maintain as much of a normal and healthy life as possible.
