Conflicted on this. My gut says no. But if he is going to remain like that, I don't see the point continuing?
Doctor Sutterer, why would this occur over and over, and how do you prevent it from happening? I have a friend whose shoulder pops out every time he plays sports with us. But he pops it back in himself, since it happened so many times.

    • @Noner1234
      @Noner1234 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Yes and if it was that much of a problem (no way for the ref to know unless he was shown/told) he should have pulled out of the fight, but this is just how tj is. He said in is post fight interview that it happened dozens of times in his camp and I have to assume he didn’t just keep training in areas (defensive wrestling/getting back to the feet) where the shoulder would pop out of place. The entire mma community knew aljo would use wrestling and that, despite every mma fight starting on the feet, tj would have a very short window to use his “puncher’s chance.”
In tj’s defense, why would he do the right thing? He has money to make regardless of the outcome and the opportunity to stay semi-relevant as opposed to backing out and probably finishing out the remainder of his career under the knife/recovering.

For those commenting that it was a waste of time for TJ to take this fight. Many fighters have mentioned that in order to get insurance to take care of their injuries. They will take on fights and after the fight claim the injury was caused by the fight and the insurance will take care of it which will let them finally get the treatment they need.

Shoulder injury is no walk in the park, I ripped a muscle in one of my shoulders while benchpressing back in 2008 that day a bad person thought it was funny to put 3-times the usual weight on it and then hand it over to me while i was laying down, the extreme weight ripped my shoulder with crucial pain while i was just holding onto the bar. Stopped me throwing the ball in baseball and without the shoulder I halved my throwing distance. And I never recovered to being able to play sports again of those types. I keep up with my health and fitness now. But up until not too long ago I think it really effected how I turned out not being able to play any sports effective as I used to as a teenager.

I had this shoulder dislocation today jumping max height to catch a line drive in baseball and landing in an awkward position with my arm fully extended basically over my head.
Apparently it’s called luxatio erecta. I was hoping for the bio-digital anatomy breakdown here.
My arm was stuck in a slightly upwards position when i got up, but luckily within a minute a trainer popped it back into place.
I’m shocked at how quickly i am feeling alright (this happened about 11 hours ago). My shoulder is very sore but i have full range of motion and can do push-ups without much pain (it was just a test / i know it needs rest).
I’m curious to if i need an MRI, but I’m assuming if the pain isn’t too bad everything should now heal on it’s own…not noticing any swelling but my shoulder is tender.
My only concern from my research is neurovascular injury from a damaged axillary nerve. I wish i knew how to self diagnose that but from what i am finding online it would heal on its own in most cases
Shoulder dislocations are not fun - good video as always

I’ve had too many dislocations to count, many of them have been posterior dislocations. Fairly rare, from what I’ve been told. I have multiple subluxations daily. Many surgeries to help but only temporary fixes. Now, as long as I keep the shoulder “in shape” it’s tolerable. Maybe a shoulder replacement in the future.

Shoulder subluxations are common in Mixed Martial Arts, these are quick dislocations where the shoulder comes out but finds itself back in the socket almost immediately, that being said subluxations are night game Enders but more game changers meaning they weaken the arm and numb it up, I know this through experience, so when Tj said he dislocated it 20+ times I’m sure he meant it subluxed a lot of the time so he could manage it, but unfortunately he completely dislocated it on that fight which makes it a whole different story and firstly the difference is you have ongoing pain also while your joint is out of the socket, now good on TJ not submitting but he probably meant to tell mark to not stop had it subluxed I don’t think he planned on it to fully dislocate haha, respect to Tj though and also mark for giving the space and giving Tj a chance, I wish this situation was avoided though I wanted to see TJ do it

Surgery will provide more stability though it might not really ever be fully 100%. It can be quite stable and get up to 90-95%. But the wait time for loading it post-surgery is quite long. I'm not sure that TJ comes back from that surgery as it would likely mean more than a year off from fighting again at his age.

Most likely a labrum tear. I’d advise scheduling an MRI to look into what kind of damage your shoulder has undergone previously because every redislocation has potential of creating more damage. The best kind of treatment for a labrum tear (and the only) is surgery because the labrum itself will never heal unless arthroscopically reattached to the bone. I may be incorrect but 1 dislocation results into a 65% chance or higher that labrum damage has been made. Anything after that you can almost 100% guarantee that excessive tearing has occurred. I hope this helps best of luck

Look at TJ's left shoulder from any of his weigh-ins. The thing is pretty much torn from the collarbone. You can even notice the considerable amount of mass that has been lost in that upper arm. It's really not surprising that he keeps dislocating it. The real question comes down to whether or not an injury like that can be fixed. He had a 2 year layoff, I would hope during that time he would go down some avenue to try and fix the problem.

I had a labrum tear/Slap tear repair surgery in 2020. If dislocations still occur, I know a laterjet procedure can protect the shoulder from coming out the front, is there anything that can assist with a shoulder that goes out your back? I have winging in my left shoulder blade, and a dip in my back from the previous surgery. I do not have dislocations, but do have a lot of instability…. I went to Ohio State University Hospital, and they said “They don’t play odds less than 80%”…. when I asked what that meant, they said there’s a 50% chance I can be fixed, 50% chance it will not help at all…. I’m too old for a repair surgery, that may or may not work, but too young for a shoulder replacement…. Any suggestions?

Everyone's body is different. Some people lose a lot of stability with even 1 dislocation - others are really solid even through 2-3. If you only have 1 dislocation and it feels quite stable (as in swinging the arm and doing overhead movements feel quite comfortable (no anxiety or strange feeling as though its' going to come out again) then I'd say you're good to wait and see without surgery. It's not my official diagnosis as I'm not assessing you in person - but I'm of the type to avoid surgery if possible and I would only get the labral repair if it's warranted due to: 1) Significantly torn labrum according to MRI + dye, 2) Significant Instability + Decrease in Function or 3) 3+ Dislocations. In my opinion.
